Glenn William Hubbard

Glenn William Hubbard, age 74 of Willis, passed away peacefully at home on Sunday,

September 17, 2017, surrounded by his loving family.  He was born on January 8, 1943 in the Meadows of Dan area of Floyd County to the late Gordon Sindes Hubbard and Wilma Ree Pratt Hubbard. 

He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Shirley Mae Bowen Hubbard of the home; two daughters and sons-in-law, Glynda Mae and Jeffrey Stanley of Laurel Fork, Amanda Gail and Jason Farmer of Floyd; one son and daughter-in-law, Charles Gordon and Julie Hubbard of Laurel Fork; grandchildren, Carrie and Nathan Harris, Robert Stanley, Joseph and Lisa Hubbard, Benjamin Hubbard, Jennifer and Marcellus Lynch, Gideon Farmer and Jude Farmer; four great-grandchildren; four step-great-grandchildren; brother and sister–in-law, Carl and Brenda Hubbard of Meadows of Dan; several nieces, nephews, and other dear family members and friends.
Funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm, Wednesday, September 20, 2017 at Maberry Funeral Home with Pastor Dale Belcher officiating.  Interment will follow in the Jonathan Conner Cemetery with Military Rites by Floyd V.F.W. Post # 7854, American Legion Post #127. Family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.

Charles Irvin Harmon

Charles Irvin Harmon of Floyd, Virginia, passed Saturday, September 9, 2017 at Carilion Memorial Hospital in Roanoke, VA.  He was the son of Leonard Lee and Ama Radford Harmon. 

He graduated from Floyd High School and spent four years in the Air Force.  He attended Milwaukee College in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, receiving a degree in Applied Science in Electrical Technology.  He lived and worked in Wisconsin for several years and returned to Floyd to help his father who was in poor health.

Survivors are his two sisters, Estelle Johnson of Melbourne, Florida and Anne Brammer Hoose of Roanoke, Virginia; nieces, Rhonda Lyons and husband Chuck Lyons, Pamela B. Young, Robin Stanley and husband Kevin Stanley; great- nieces, Amber Stanley, Leslie Lyons; great nephews, Joshua Young, K.J. Stanley.

Family will receive friends Saturday, September 23, 2017 from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm at Maberry Funeral Home.  Burial will be private.

William "Dan" Daniel Tuttle

William “Dan” Daniel Tuttle, 83 of Floyd, passed away Wednesday, September 13, 2017.  He was born in Germanton, NC to Bill & Vela Tuttle.  Dan married Jean Hylton Tuttle and was also a member of Floyd Baptist Church.  He worked as a General Manager for Ford Dealership.

He is survived by his sister June Tuttle Payne and her husband Bobby; nieces and nephew, Kendra Sherill, Kristen & Kyle Payne; sister-in-law and husband, Dean & Ken VandenBerghe and children, Chris VandenBerghe and Anne Cureton; several nieces and nephews.

Graveside service will be held Wednesday, September 20, 2017 at 3:00 p.m. at Jacksonville Cemetery with Rev. Jeff Hudgins officiating. 

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Floyd Baptist Church, PO Box 58, Floyd, VA. 24091.

Ava Reda Underwood Wells

Ava Wells, 93 of Christiansburg, a Floyd native, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, September 13, 2017.  She was preceded in death by her loving husband of fifty seven years, Maynard Wells; her parents, Claude and Sally Underwood; sisters and brothers, Ollie Thomas, Ruby Agnew, Zella Weddle, Gilbert Underwood and Tom Underwood.

Ava is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Mike Barnett of Christiansburg; special grandsons and spouses, Derek and Tabitha Barnett of Christiansburg and Josh and Melissa Barnett of Shrewsbury, NJ; two great-granddaughters, Maddy and Sloane Ava; sister, Larma Harman of Martinsville; many nieces and nephews that have been a huge part of her life.

Ava spent most of her life working on a farm and at Imperial Reading (Overall Factory).  After her retirement she kept busy by going on trips with her sisters and nieces and taking care of her grandsons.  She was a member of Mt. Elbert Methodist Church and later on became a part of the Fieldstone Methodist Church Community.

Ava enjoyed the outdoors.  She loved going on walks and to yard sales with her close buddies, VT Kanode and Virginia Mullins.

Special thanks to Dr. Gregory Beato, nurse Molly and many others at Medical Associates of Southwest Virginia, Gentiva Home Health Care, especially Mary Ellen and Krista and the Good Samaritan Hospice Care family including Mollie, Lori, Kim, Ashley, Debbie and Darlene.

Several extra special caregivers helped take care of Ava during her final weeks of her life, Donna Bishop, Tabitha Barnett, Sue Vest, Reba Goff….big thanks to them.

Funeral service will be held at 11:00 am, Saturday, September 16, 2017 at Maberry Funeral Home with Pastor Jonathan Page and Pastor J.D. Harman officiating with interment in the Jacksonville Cemetery.  Family will receive friends from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm, Friday, September 15, 2017.

Pearl Elizabeth Reed Quesenberry

Pearl Elizabeth Reed Quesenberry, moved on to her heavenly home September 11, 2017.  She is preceded in death by her husband of 45 years, Rudolph Quesenberry.  Born on August 12, 1947, she was the daughter of the late Everett Reed, Sr. and Ruby Reed. 

Pearl was a dedicated mother, grandmother and member of Duncan Chapel Church of the Brethren.

Survivors include sister and brother-in-law, Brenda and Claude Wilson; brothers and sister-in-law, John Reed, Everett and Nokie Reed.  Left to cherish the memory of a dear mother and grandmother are, sons and daughter-in-law, William and Virginia Quesenberry, Adam Quesenberry; daughters and sons-in-law, Virginia and Scott Allen, Elizabeth and Timothy Cox; granddaughter, Krista Cox; grandsons, Hunter Allen, Travis Cox, Elijah Quesenberry, Jonathan Allen and Garrett Allen.

Graveside service will be held at 10:00 am, Thursday, September 14, 2017 at Sumpter Cemetery , 1264 Horse Ridge Road, NW Willis, VA with Pastor Stanley Hawkins officiating.  Family will receive friends 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Wednesday, September 13, 2017 at Maberry Funeral Home.

Hazel R. Hylton

Hazel R. Hylton, 91 of Floyd, passed away Sunday, September 3, 2017. She is preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Myron Kenneth Hylton, her parents and two brothers.
Hazel loved flowers, reading and quilting. She loved her Lord and was a lifetime deaconess at Burks Fork Church of the Brethren in Floyd, VA.  She loved her family more every day.

She is survived by her sons and daughter-in-law, Richard and Jill Hylton of Floyd, VA,  Philip  Hylton and Linda Fisher of Pearisburg ,VA; grandchildren, Amanda & Terry Poff, James and Valerie Hylton, Chris and Jessica Hylton; great-grandchildren, Gavin, Aiden, Levi, Vanessa, Brian, Travis, Dakota, Aiden; sister, Ruby Harman; several nieces and nephews. Funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, September 7, 2017 at Maberry Funeral Home with Pastor Roy Turpin and Brother Ted Turner officiating with interment in Topeco Cemetery.  Family will receive friends 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, September 6, 2017 at Maberry Funeral Home.
