Paul Glenward Carroll


Paul Glenward Carroll, 70, of Bassett, Va., went home to be with the Lord November 21, 2016.  He was preceded in death by his parents Nelson and Iva Lou Carroll and his brother, David Nelson Carroll.
He attended Peoples Church of the Living God in Bassett, Va. 
He is survived by his wife of 33 years, Frances Jones Carroll of Bassett, Va.; son, Charles Wayne Carroll of Hillsville,Va.; sisters, Martha Webb of Bassett, Va., Beatrice Stevens of Rocky Mount, Va.; brothers and sisters-in-law, Dale Carroll and Linda of Statesville, N.C., Terry Carroll and Teresa of Fieldale, Va., Linsey Carroll of Kingsport Tennessee, Randy Carroll of Bassett, Va.
Funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, November 26, 2016 at Maberry Funeral Home with Pastor Dwayne Pruitt, Pastor Clyde Bishop and Pastor Roy Turpin officiating with interment in the Duncan Chapel Cemetery.  Family will receive friends 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Friday, November 25, 2016 at Maberry Funeral Home.

Ila Mae Smith Reed


Ila Mae Smith Reed, 93, of Willis, our precious mother, peacefully departed this life and went home to be with the Lord, Sunday, November 20, 2016 at Skyline Nursing & Rehab Center in Floyd, VA.

Mrs. Reed was born June 10, 1923 in Floyd County to the late Alfred Cornelius Smith and Icie Florence Smith. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband of 70 years, Wilbert Haven Reed; sisters, Zola Williams and  Irene Duncan;  brothers, Alsaberry Smith, Loman Smith and Edgar Smith; grandson, Tony Wood.
Mr. and Mrs. Reed moved to Bassett where she worked at Bassett-Walker Knitting for 10 years before retiring and moving back to Willis in 1983.  She loved gardening, canning, quilting and cooking for her family.  She loved the Lord and often talked about how much she had been blessed.
Left to cherish her memory are her six daughters and sons-in-law, Faye Weeks and Gene, Fern Belcher and Michael, Oleda Phillips, Vicki Bond and Alex all of Willis, Joan Quesenberry and Dale of Indian Valley, Louise Reed and Max of Bassett ; three sons, and daughters-in-law, Dale Reed of Willis, Calvin Reed and Brenda of Halifax, Bennett Reed and Judy of Bassett ; four sisters and brothers-in-law, Sue Quesenberry and Dexter of Pennsylvania,  Alma Quesenberry, of Radford, Mozelle Phillips of Willis, Martha Farmer of Riner; one brother, Ray Lincoln Smith  and Carrie of Rockwood, Tennessee; very special sister-in-law, Lorraine Smith of Riner; 18 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, 8 great-great grandchildren, and several step grandchildren.
Funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, November 23, 2016 at Maberry Funeral Home with Pastor Roy Turpin and Pastor Shannon Hicks officiating with interment at Beaver Creek Cemetery.  Family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Tuesday, November 22, 2016 at Maberry Funeral Home Chapel.

Martha "Agnes" Coburn Phillips


Martha Agnes Coburn Phillips, 88,  of Alum Ridge(Floyd County) ,  widow of Theron A. Phillips passed away in the early morning hours of November 18, 2016.  Born in West Virginia September 13, 1928, she lived most of her adult life in Floyd County, Virginia.  Agnes was a beloved daughter, granddaughter, sister, aunt, wife, mother, grandmother (Nanny) and great-grandmother. 

She was preceded in death by her parents Alonzo and Mandy Hicks Coburn; sisters, Juanita Coburn, Phyllis Griffith; brothers Bill, Tom, and Don Coburn.  She was also preceded by her oldest daughter, Patsy Gail Phillips and special grandson, Jacob Coburn Phillips.
When Mom married Dad, her family doubled when they made their home in Virginia, she went to work at Imperial Reading/Health-Tex and made many friends.  Her church family was also important to her.
Many survivors are left to mourn her passing, daughters are Peggy and husband Joe Quesenberry, Dolly Conner, Nancy and Kenny Page; grandchildren are Kristen Reed Orange and husband Kevin, Emily and Joey Kaylor, Zachary Conner, Joshua Conner and wife Ashley; great-grandchildren are Brittney Howell, Michael “Mikey” Howell, Lavannah Kaylor, Burley Kaylor, Jasper Conner and Melody Conner; special sister, Sylvia Quesenberry and sister Freda Giron; many beloved nieces, nephews and extended family.
Funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, November 20, 2016 at Maberry Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Michael Pugh and Pastor Roy Junior Bentley officiating with interment in the White Rock Cemetery, beside the love of her life, Theron.  Family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Saturday, November 19, 2016 at Maberry Funeral Home.

Arlene Radford Turner, 93, of Floyd passed away Tuesday, November 15, 2016.  She was preceded  in death by her husband, Hampton J. Turner.
She is survived by her sons, Hampton J. Turner, Jr., James W. Turner (Marcia) ; grandchildren, Angela M. Turman (Brian), Monica A. Turner; great-grandchildren, Haley M. Turman, Briana P. Turman, Parker J. Turman.
Funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, November 18, 2016 at Maberry Funeral Home with Rev. Hebron Quesenberry and Pastor Roy Turpin officiating with interment in the Jacksonville Cemetery.  Family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. prior to the funeral service.

Betty Jean Harris Gallimore


Betty Jean Harris Gallimore, 74, of Christiansburg passed away Tuesday, November 15, 2016.  She was preceded in death by her parents, Murken and Ellen Gay Harris; sister, Patricia Ann Harris.
She is survived by her beloved son, Joseph Scott Gallimore and wife Angie; grandchildren, Hunter Ace Gallimore and Grant Alton Gallimore; brothers & sisters-in-law, Robert and Patricia Harris, Roy and Nancy Harris; niece, Susan Leonard and husband Richie; nephews, Roger Harris and wife Teresa, Jason Harris and wife Kayla; aunts, Dorothy Salmons and Anna Childress; many great nieces and nephew; specials friends, Hazel Harmon and Carol Jackson.

Robert Ray Pugh


Robert Ray Pugh of Alum Ridge (Floyd County), VA departed from this world to Heaven on November 14, 2016 despite the heroic efforts of Michael, Brandy, the Floyd County Rescue Squad and Carilion New River Valley Medical Center ER.  He was 77 years old born on January 15, 1939.  He is preceded in death by his wife of 56 years, Ruby Lucas Pugh; mother, Vivian Akers Pugh; sister, Joyce Pugh Lovelace.

He is survived by his daughters, Judy Pugh Estes and Lisa Pugh; grandchildren, Michael and Brandy Estes and Stephanie Cox and Josh Phillips; great grandson, Colton Estes; brother, Ned and Dana Pugh.  Robert was devoted to his family and adored his grandchildren & great grandson.  He was known as “Paw Paw” to his
family and  many others.

Funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, November 17, 2016 at Maberry Funeral Home with Pastor Roy Junior Bentley officiating with interment in the Pleasant Valley Cemetery.  Family will receive friends 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, November 16, 2016 at Maberry Funeral Home Chapel.

Everett Caleb Hill. Jr., 82 of Floyd, passed away Wednesday, November 9, 2016.

He was preceded in death by daughters, Linda K. Gray and Sarah Annette Hill; parents, Everett and Emma Hill; brothers, Ervin and Clint Hill.

He is survived by his wife, Opalene Mary Hill; son and daughter-in-law, Paul David Hill (Dawn); daughters and sons-in-law, Brenda Hinkley (Billy), Carol Ridgely (John), Jane Cunningham (Tom), Wayne Gray; grandchildren, Neville and Danielle Ridgely, Caleb and Olivia Cunningham, Cathy Cunningham, Travis Gray, Megan Gray, Mary and Bo Byrd, Caryl Quesenberry, Jocelyn and Brian Cox; great grandchildren, Dustin, Benny, Isaac, Amber, Elizabeth, Chelsea, Melanie, Samantha and Jordan; sisters, Velma Spangler, Darlene Duncan; 13 nieces; eight nephews; special friends, Colden Duncan, Terry Bowles, Lowell Booth.
Funeral service will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday, November 12, 2016 at the Maberry Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Dale Belcher officiating. The interment will follow at the Beaver Creek Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Friday November 11, 2016 at the Funeral Home.
