Linda Duncan Sutherland


Linda D. Sutherland, 61, of Floyd, went home to be with the Lord Tuesday December 30, 2014. She was a Bornagain Christian and had retired from Volvo.  She also worked as bookkeeper for the family business.  She was a devoted family nurse to her children, grandchildren, parents and siblings.


She is preceded in death by her parents, Edgar and Betty Duncan. She is survived by her husband, John Sutherland; son, John Randolph, IV (Mary Beth) and daughter, Lori (Nick) Charles; grandchildren, Dakota, Tanner, MaKenna, and Brayden Reed, Jade and Sophie Sutherland; brother, Eugene (Robin) Duncan; sister, Judy Ann Lester; nieces, Melissa (David) Mathis, Angie (Anthony) Hixon, Jenny (Robbie) Bain, Kayla Duncan, Summer Duncan, and Breanna Sowers; nephews David (Frances) Brown, Shannon Ratcliffe, and Wesley Duncan; aunts, Ester Griffith, Rosie (Gene) Altizer, Bernice (Russell) Akers, Ruth (James) Moran; uncles, Marlie (Thelma) Duncan, Edward Altizer, Teddy Altizer, Tazewell Altizer, Lawrence (Marti) Altizer, Phillip (Norma) Altizer, Tommy Altizer; mother-in-law  Ethel (Ross) Peacemaker; sisters-in-laws, Mary (Billy) Underwood, Ruth Ann (Shirley) Boothe, Wilma Lee(Bill)Simpkins, Judy(Cecil) Roop; and her walking companion, Slide.


Funeral Services will be held at 2p.m. on Friday, January 2, 2015 at Alum Ridge Community Church. Interment will follow in the Alum Ridge Community Church Cemetery.  The family will receive friends from 5-7pm Thursday, January 1, 2015 at the Maberry Funeral Home Chapel.

Evelyn Coffey Ouellette



Evelyn Coffey Ouellette, 83 of Salem, passed away peacefully in her home on Monday, December 29, 2014. She is preceded in death by her parents, Fred & Jimmie Coffey; sisters, Muriel and Helen; and brother, Herman. She was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother whose wisdom and sense of humor impacted all she met.  

She is survived by her husband, Norman Ouellette; daughter, Michelle Ouellette; son & daughter-in-law, Mike & Chris Ouellette; grandchildren, Britney Huffman and husband James, Logan Carper & fiancé Joe Poff, Josh Ouellette & fianceé Morgan Vass, and Matt Ouellette; great-grandchildren, Remington Huffman, Mason Ouellette; brother, James Coffey; special niece, Margaret Phillips; and special friends, Jim & Arbie Tyree .  

Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, January 2, 2015 at Lotz Funeral Home, Salem Chapel. Interment will follow in the Sherwood Memorial Park.  The family will receive friends from 2 – 4 p.m. and
6 – 8 p.m. on Wednesday, December 31, 2014 at Lotz Funeral Home, Salem Chapel.
 
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Teresa, Karen, Sherrill, and the staff at Medi Hospice.

Dorthy Mae Hairston Stuart








Mrs. Dorthy Mae Hairston Stuart, 87, of Floyd, Virginia, went home to be with the
Lord on December 23, at 10:30 am.  God graced us with this extraordinary daughter,
wife and mother on October 4, 1927 to the late Phillip S. and Clessie H. Hairston.  She is preceded in death by her husband, Ivan Ira Stuart, Sr. and her sons Ivan Ira Stuart, Jr. and Uycless Selwyn Stuart.

Dorthy was raised by a minister father and anointed mother who loved the Lord all of their lives.  She joined Little River Missionary Baptist Church, and was a dedicated  and faithful member and Deaconess for 60 years.  She was also a faithful member of the Willing Workers Club until the end.

She was a very dedicated wife and mother and was known by many as the hardest working woman in Floyd County.  There was absolutely nothing she wouldn’t do for the Lord and her family. During her marriage she helped to raise her younger siblings after her father suffered a debilitating injury, and cared for over 25 foster children from the Southwest Virginia area while they waited to return to their parents or to permanent homes also taking permanent custody of one and adopting the other.

Dorthy is survived by daughters Constance Stuart of Roanoke, Va., JoAnn Clark (William) of Williamsburg, Va., Desiree’ Cooper (Erwin) of Chesapeake, VA., Theresa Newbill of Winston, N.C. and Lakisha Stuart of Roanoke, Va., and 52 grand and great grandchildren.  She is also survived by three daughters-in-law, Carol Wilson, Wanda Stuart, and Alice Nichols-Stuart.   Also by sisters Macie Young of Bassett, Va., Elizabeth Johnson (Curtis) of Fieldale, Va., Virginia Harley (John) of Ridgeway, Va. and Ruby Eggleston (Lewis) of Axton, Va., brothers Phillip Eugene Hairston of Bassett, Va., Poindexter Hairston (Louise) of Fieldale, Va. and Benjamin Hairston (Cardell) of Bassett, Va., sisters-in-laws, Irma Hanson and Katie Stuart, both of Floyd, Va., Julia Stuart of Roanoke, Va. and Mae Stuart of Washington, DC, and a host of nieces and nephews.

Home going Service will be 1:00 pm Saturday, December 27, 2014 at Little River Missionary Baptist Church with Visitation from 11:00 am -1:00pm.  Internment at  Stuart Family Cemetery.   Pastor Clinton Crump and Elder Russell Redd to officiate service.

Linda Faye Dickerson, 67, of Floyd, passed away Friday, December 19, 2014. She was preceded in death by her parents, Pearl Nason and Lissie Jane Smith Cockram; brothers, Raymond, Eugene, Randolph, and Tommy Cockram; granddaughter, (nana’s little angel) Kelsea Jade Nichols; brother-in-law, Irvin Compton. She is survived by her Loving husband, Roger Wayne Dickerson; daughter and son-in-law, Faith and Winky Nichols; son, Marcus Dickerson; grandchildren, Jared and Jaden Paige Nichols; brothers and sisters-in-law, Welby and Patsy Cockram, Freeman and Helen Cockram, Lorene Powers, Mary Lee Cockram; sisters and brothers-in-law, Myrtle Compton, Corine and Clyde Belcher, Betty Joyce and Ben Hawkes, Elaine and Randel Harris, Loretta and Carlos Smith. Funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Sunday, December 21, 2014 at the Floyd Baptist Church with Pastor Dan Agee, Pastor Joe Womack, and Pastor Brian Cockram officiating. The interment will follow at the Lee Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday, December 20, 2014 at Maberry Funeral Home.
