Glenn "Parker" Barber, Sr.

 

Glenn Parker Barber, Sr., 78 of Floyd, passed away on Monday, February 22, 2021. He is preceded in death by his parents, Samuel & Hazel Barber; and siblings, June Vest, Samuel Barber, Fred Barber, Ralph Barber, Anita Gardner, Wilma Reece, Dessie Broyls, and MD Barber.

He enjoyed playing chess, solitaire, working crossword puzzles, and Country and Gospel music, including writing some songs. He was a saw miller by trade. Parker lived a full and blessed life. He always had a smile for everyone he met and found joy in everyone. He was a very giving person if he thought you needed something he had he would quickly offer it to you. He enjoyed walking everywhere he went. He told his family he had walked from one end of Floyd to the other and made friends all along the way. Parker was from the old school Buffalo Mountain ways. He and others like him are a rare breed. He will be missed by all who knew him.

He is survived by his son & daughter-in-law, Glen & Dawn Barber; daughter & son-in-law, Elizabeth & Mike Bean; grandchildren, Keith & Tiffany Coleman, Emily Coleman, Brandi DeJesus, Brent DeJesus, Mike & Jessica Bean, Shelby Bean, and Allen Ashley; great-grandchildren, Zachery Shelton Lee Worley, Anna Marie Angel Bean, and Mya Rene; and brothers, Roger Barber and Donnie Barber.

Graveside services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, February 24, 2021 in the Harris Cemetery with Pastor Roy Turpin officiating.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital.

Chad Everett Hollandsworth

Chad Everett Hollandsworth, 48 of Willis, passed away on Wednesday, February 17, 2021. He is preceded in death by his grandparents, Virgil & Elois Trail; and uncle, Tommy Trail.

Chad loved to dress up, eat chocolate and drink Pepsi. He was an avid Virginia Tech fan. He genuinely enjoyed life, having visitors, and spending time taking rides with his mom, Connie.

He is survived by his mother, Connie Trail Hollandsworth; brother & sister-in-law, Scott & Jennifer Hollandsworth; aunts & uncles, Carol Bishop, Judy Hollandsworth Hylton, Barry & Barbara Trail, and Jerry Hollandsworth; and numerous cousins.

Funeral services will be private.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. Charles Judy, Dr. Carl Bivens, Dr. O’Donavan, as well as Intrepid Hospice and all of the nursing staff who cared for him and kept him company through the years.

John Paul Duncan

 

John Paul Duncan, Sr., 79 of Willis, passed away on Thursday, February 11, 2021. He is preceded in death by his parents, Wilber & Ella Duncan; and brother, Tony Duncan.

He is survived by his wife, Linda Duncan; son & daughter-in-law, John Paul, Jr. & Kathy Duncan; grandchildren, Amanda & Isaac Buckner and Christopher & Grace Duncan; great-grandchildren, Jonathan Buckner and Tinley Duncan; brothers & sisters-in-law, Rodney & Grace Duncan and Alton & Mayola Duncan; and sisters & brother-in-law, Mary Alice Watson, Eileen Alderman, and Joyce & Wayne Huff.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, February 16, 2021 in the Maberry Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Vernon Dalton officiating. Interment will follow in the Big Sand Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1 until 2 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.

The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Angie Sutphin and Shannon Lytton of Good Samaritan Hospice for their loving care shown to John.

Due to the conditions surrounding the COVID-19 pandemic, masks must be worn when inside of the Maberry Funeral Home facilities and are suggested outside as well.

Diana White Harrell

 

Diana White Harrell, 72 of Dublin, passed away on Monday, February 8, 2021. She is preceded in death by her parents, Emmett Guy & Dillie Marshall White; and niece, Jenny Spencer.

Diana graduated from Floyd County High School and retired from Radford University with 45 years of service.

She is survived by her son, Joshua Harrell; sister, Bonnie Mason (Fred); brother, Lonnie White; nephew, Shelman Spencer (Jamie); great-nephew, Maximus Spencer; and great-niece, Avery Spencer.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, February 14, 2021 in the Maberry Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Dale Akers officiating. Interment will follow in the Captain George Quesenberry Cemetery. The family will receive friends from Noon to 2 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.

Due to the conditions surrounding the COVID-19 pandemic, masks must be worn when inside of the Maberry Funeral Home facilities and are suggested outside as well.

Chloe Altizer Bishop


Chloe Altizer Bishop, 82, passed away peacefully on February 6, 2021 at Commonwealth Senior Living in Radford, Virginia. She is preceded in death by her husband, Richard Bishop; daughter, Becky Caldwell; and her parents, Aaron and Ada Altizer.

She is survived by a daughter, Cindy Hylton of Floyd; granddaughter & grandson-in-law, Ariel & Chris Bethell; great-grandsons, Silas and Ren Bethell, all of Riner; sisters & brothers-in-law, Ellen & Carly Spence, Hattie Trail, Geneva & Allen Cox; brother & sister-in-law, Robert & Robin Bishop; and several nieces, nephews, and friends.   

Chloe was a kind and generous person who enjoyed spending her days on the farm tending to her cattle, and flat-footing at the Floyd Friday Night Jamboree. She had a love for music and played the upright bass in her and her husband’s band, B&H Bluegrass. She enjoyed playing pranks on her friends and co-workers at Kollmorgen where she worked until she retired. She was a member of Riner Grace Brethren Church. 

Graveside services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, February 10, 2021 at the Roselawn Memorial Garden Mausoleum with Pastor Kenny Farley officiating. The family will receive friends from Noon – 1 p.m. on Wednesday, February 10, 2021 at the Maberry Funeral Home Chapel.

Due to the conditions surrounding the COVID-19 pandemic, masks must be worn when inside of the Maberry Funeral Home facilities and are suggested outside as well.

Ralph Edwin Yopp

 

Ralph Edwin Yopp, 77 of Copper Hill, passed away on Wednesday, February 3, 2021. He is preceded in death by his wife, Joyce Ann Yopp; parents, Earl & Ida Yopp; daughter-in-law, Carol Yopp; two brothers; and one sister.

He is survived by his sons & daughters-in-law, Frank & Joan Yopp, Tim Yopp, Greg Yopp, and Ronald & Shelby Yopp; grandchildren, Cody, Cory, Dustin, Dreama, Faith, and Derek Yopp; great-grandchildren, Aiden, Bentley, Landon, and Chloe, Noel, Ryder, Jasper, and Nevaeh; three brothers; and four sisters.

There will not be any services.

Oleda Marshall Kenley


Oleda Marshall Kenley, 94 of Indian Valley, passed away on Wednesday, February 3, 2021. She is preceded in death by her husband, Robert Jackson Kenley; and daughter, Evelyn Higgs.

She is survived by her children, Ruth Derflinger, Claude & Sarah Kenley, and Teresa Paisley; son-in-law, Jewell Higgs; seven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 6, 2021 at the Maberry Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Roy Bentley, Jr. officiating. Interment will follow in the Captain George Quesenberry Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. – 11 a.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.
