Bonnie P. Dickerson

Bonnie P. Dickerson, 83, of Dugspur, formerly of Floyd, passed away Friday, June 26, 2015.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas H. Dickerson.
She loved country music and enjoyed her friends and being a friend to many. 
Left to cherish her memory are her son and daughter-in-law, J.C. & Lillian Dickerson; special friend, Lathan Tobler.
Graveside service will be held 11 a.m., Tuesday, June 30, 2015 at Pine View Cemetery with the Rev. Elmon Thompson officiating.  Family will receive friends 6:00 p.m.-8:00 p.m., Monday, June 29, 2015 at Maberry Funeral Home.

James Malcolm Willis


James Malcolm Willis, 65, of Willis, went home to be his Lord and Savior, Thursday, June 25, 2015.  He was a loving father and brother that his family was so very proud of and  will be sadly missed.  He was preceded in death by his parents Dartha and Malcolm Willis; daughter, Amy Jo Willis; sister, Diana Corbitt.

He is survived by his daughters, Kimberly M. Willis, Felicia Willis-Martin, Rita L. Knox; grandchildren, Stacey, Kaley, Danielle, Brian Jr., Tyler, Brandon, Sean; sisters, Barbara Mook, Lynda Wilson, Susan Keyes; special niece Rachel Thomas and special nephew, Jason Keyes as well as numerous other nieces and nephews.

There will be a private  memorial service at a later date.

Irma Jean Stuart Hanson



  Irma Jean Hanson, age 88, of Floyd, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, June 20, 2015, at Lewis Gale Medical Center in Salem, VA.  She was born on March 17, 1927 to the late Lewis Jacob and Sophia Banks Stuart. She was preceded in death by her husband of 34 years, James L. Walker and her husband of 9 years, Otis T. Hanson.  In addition, she was preceded in death by 10 brothers, 7 sisters-in-law, and one sister.

  Jean attended school in Floyd, VA and was a homemaker, mother, and caregiver to her mother and some of her brothers.  She was an inspiration to many and a mother to all.  She enjoyed cooking and feeding everyone that visited.  Her zest for life was contagious.  At a very young age she developed a love and fascination for hats.  In her free time she enjoyed sewing, quilting and crocheting.

  She accepted Christ at a very young age at Chestnut Level Baptist Church, Floyd, VA (Head of the River). Jean continued her Christian walk as a member of  the  Little River Missionary Baptist Church, Floyd, VA where she remained a faithful and devoted member until her passing.  She was the Mother of the Church, Deaconess, Church Clerk, Member of the Choir, head of the Kitchen Committee, a member of the Willing Workers Club and many other organizations.

  She leaves to cherish her memories two sons James David (Joyce) of Rocky Mt. , VA and Johnny C. (Melinda) Walker of Floyd, VA, two daughters, K. Rosemary (Johannes) Hobson of Roanoke, VA and Carol J. Walker of Mitchellville, MD ; five Grandchildren, Melanie Walker, Dionne Calloway, James Walker, Jr., Daryl Walker and Eric Walker; six Great-grandchildren; one sister, Kate M. Stuart and two sisters-in-law Julia Stuart, Annie Mae Stuart; and a host of loving nieces, nephew and friends.

  Funeral Services will be conducted at the Maberry Funeral Home Chapel, Floyd, VA on Monday, June 29, 2015 with Dr. Clinton L. Crump officiating. The family will receive friends from 11:00 am to 12:00 pm and home going services will follow at 12:00pm. Interment will be at the Little River Cemetery.

Dale Jerry Pugh


Dale Jerry Pugh, 69 of Floyd, went to be with his Lord and Savior after a courageous battle with cancer on Saturday, June 20, 2015. He was preceded in death by his parents, Fred Jerry & Gladys Reed Pugh; four precious grandchildren, Miranda Gray, Brendon & Brandon Gray, and Devin Gray.  He was a wonderful dedicated, loving daddy and papa who worked as an electrical contractor for 43 years.  Left to cherish his memory are his daughters and sons-in-law, Cindy Gray (Duane), Kristie Turman (Gary), Penny Bower (Jay); very special grandchildren, Morgan Nester, Daniel Nester, Logan Gray, Aleigha Gray, Jacob Bower; brothers & sister-in-law, Freddie Pugh, Larry Pugh (Phyllis), Michael Pugh; mother of his children, Lois G. Hubbard. The family would like to express a special thanks to Erin Dejesus, Eddie Woods and the staff of CNRV Medical Center. 
Funeral Service will be held 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, June 23, 2015 at Pleasant Valley Church of the Brethren with Pastor Roy Turpin,  Pastor Hebron Quesenberry, and Pastor Roy Bentley officiating with interment to follow at Pleasant Valley Cemetery.  The family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the church prior to the service.

Bessie Bungard Spangler

Bessie Bungard Spangler,82, of Catonsville, Maryland, passed away June 7, 2015. She was the loving wife of Jack Spangler, son of the late Mr. & Mrs. C.B. Spangler, for over 57 years.   She was born December 8, 1932 in Butler, Indiana, the daughter of the late Oliver and Effie Hodge Bungard.  She graduated from Butler High School in 1952 and immediately went to work for the FBI in Washington, DC.  In 1953 she met her future husband at Fort Meade, MD.  They were married in 1957 and together had four children.  She was preceded in death by her sister Laura and her brothers Willis, Samuel, Francis, George, Oliver & James.
She is survived by her husband Jack and four children, Janet and Mark Branch of South Park, PA, Gary and Juli Beckelheimer Spangler of Columbus, OH, Karen and Bob Black of Richmond, VA and David and Lydean Ratcliffe Spangler of Hollywood, MD; sisters-in-law, Barbara Spangler of Floyd, VA  and Marie Spangler of Ft. Washington, MD.  Also surviving are nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren along with numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral service will be held 11:00 a.m., Thursday, June 11, 2015 at the Presbyterian Church of Floyd with Pastor Tupper Garden and Pastor Richard Thomas officiating with Interment in the Jacksonville Cemetery.  Family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Wednesday, June 10, 2015 at Maberry Funeral Home.
