Andrew "Garrett" Hollandsworth


Andrew “Garrett” Hollandsworth, 74 of Riner, passed peacefully on Sunday, December 29, 2019.

He was born on January 3, 1945 to the late Collie & Myrtle Hollandsworth.

He is survived by his loving wife, Iva Dell Hollandsworth, as well as his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 2, 2020 at the Maberry Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow in the Captain George Quesenberry Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 – 8 p.m. on Wednesday, January 1, 2020 at the funeral home.

Geneva Phillips Smith


Geneva Phillips Smith, 73 of Indian Valley, passed away on Sunday, December 29, 2019. She is preceded in death by her parents, John Brady & Odell Phillips; four brothers; and one sister.

She is survived by her husband of 52 years, Ronald D. Smith; son & daughter-in-law, Raymond & Marsha Smith; granddaughter & spouse, Brittany & Samuel Burke; grandson & spouse, Justin & Katlin Smith; sister & brother-in-law, Reba & Dorsie Montgomery; brothers & sisters-in-law, Bobby & Sylvia Phillips, Roger Phillips, Clarence & Bea Phillips, Jackie & Alice Phillips, Ronald Phillips, Elwood & Jo Phillips, and Timmy & Sandra Phillips; father-in-law, Troy Smith; brothers-in-law & spouse, Richard & Helen Smith, and Rickie Smith; several nieces & nephews; very special niece & spouse, Mary & Gordon Harmon.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, January 1, 2020 at the Indian Valley Church of God. Interment will follow in the Simpkins, Phillips, Turpin, Quesenberry Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 4 – 6 p.m. on Tuesday, December 31, 2019 at the church.

Lois Ann Mabery


Lois Ann Mabery, 72 of Willis, passed away on Friday, December 27, 2019. She is preceded in death by her parents, Elmond & Glenna Mabery; and brothers, Glendale Mabery and Gary Mabery.

She is survived by her daughter, Karen Roberts (Tim Greer); grandson, Andy Bird (Katie Holley); sisters, Shirley Moran, Rachel Goad, and Hilda Collins; special fur baby, Maggie Rose; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday, December 29, 2019 at the Maberry Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Jeff Dalton officiating. Interment will follow in the Willis Cemetery. The family will receive friends from Noon – 1:00 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.

Cecil Wayne Roop


Cecil Wayne Roop, 73 of Floyd, passed away on December 26, 2019 at his home with his loving wife of 50 years, Judy Harmon Roop, by his side. Cecil was born on October 1, 1946 to the late Roy G. & Stella Akers Roop. He is also preceded in death by his daughter, Susan Lynn Roop; brothers, Clinton, Carl & Curtis Roop; and his sister, Carleen Hollandsworth.

In addition to his wife, Cecil is survived by his son, Kenny Wayne (Amy) Roop; brother, Carmon (Anna) Roop; sisters, Cleo (Kelly) Cox, Claudine (Floyd) Pitts, Christine (Mikel) McClaugherty, and Cherrie Roop (JR Keen).

Cecil also has a brother-in-law, Johnny Sutherland; five sisters-in-law, Lois Roop, Shirley Roop, Mary (Billy) Underwood, Ruth (Shirley) Boothe, and Wilma (Bill) Simpkins.

Cecil was blessed with and cherished his grandchildren, Sylvia Lynn and Daniel Chase Roop; step-grandsons, Zach and Lance Garlick; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Cecil was a faithful member of the Floyd Church of God in Floyd. He was also a proud U.S. Army Veteran where he served in the Vietnam War in 1968 & 1969. He was also a member of the Floyd V.F.W.

Cecil was retired from Kopper’s Industry in Salem, VA where he worked hard and made many lifetime friends.

Cecil’s family would like to thank everyone for their cards, visits, calls, food and most importantly their prayers and support during his long illness. The family would also like to thank Carilion Hospice and his caregiver Debbie, for all of her help and support.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, December 30, 2019 at the Floyd Church of God with Rev. Clyde Bishop officiating. Interment will follow in the Roselawn Memorial Gardens where he will join his little girl, Susan,  with Military Rites by Floyd V.F.W. Post #7854 and American Legion Post #127. The family will receive friends from 4 – 6 p.m. on Sunday, December 29, 2019 at the Maberry Funeral Home Chapel.
