Rodney Clark Thomas


Rodney C. Thomas, age 81 of Floyd, went to be with the Lord Thursday, May 24, 2018. He was a licensed Funeral Director and Embalmer at Maberry Funeral Home in Floyd for over 50 years. Graduate of Cincinnati College of Embalming, Licensed E.M.T., and served as Secretary-Treasurer of Floyd County Volunteer Fire Department for many years, as well as working with the Red Cross and other civic organizations.

He is survived by sister, Barbara Spangler; brother, Rev. Richard W. Thomas, Sr., (Carolyn), and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Monday, May 28, 2018 at Maberry Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Richard W. Thomas, Sr., and Pastor Roy Turpin, with interment at Jacksonville Cemetery. Friends may visit at Maberry Funeral Home on Sunday, May 27, 2018 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Flowers are appreciated or you can make donations in memory of Rodney to the Floyd County Volunteer Rescue Squad, P.O. Reva June Cox Quesenberry


Reva June Cox Quesenberry, 88 of Indian Valley, passed away Thursday, May 24, 2018. She was preceded in death by her parents, Costley Corbett and Lettie Margaret Phillips Cox; husband, Melvin Earls Quesenberry; son, Glennis Quesenberry; grandchildren, Jason Quesenberry, Brook Quesenberry; brothers, Coy Cox, Victor Cox; sister, Ima Duncan. 

She is survived by sons and daughter-in-law, Donnie Quesenberry (Debbie), Gary Quesenberry, Darrell Quesenberry, Douglas Quesenberry; daughter and son-in-law; Teresa Battle (Larry); grandchildren, Adam and Greg Quesenberry, Alisa Akers, Jody Mills, Ashley Quesenberry, Amanda Belcher, Travis Battle; great-grandchildren; Brittany, Dusty, Cory, Austin, Riley, Angela, Morgan, Aubree; great great-grandchildren, Remington, Klarissa.

Funeral service will be held 3:00 p.m. Sunday, May 27, 2018 at the Indian Creek Primitive Baptist Church with Elder Tommy Pegram officiating. The interment will follow at the Indian Creek Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Saturday, May 26, 2018 at Maberry Funeral Home. 

Dayton Hart Robertson


Dayton Hart Robertson, 71 of Indian Valley, passed away Thursday, May 24, 2018. He was preceded in death by his parents, Homer McCutcheon and Trudy Winters Branscome Robertson; exwife, Lois Marie Riddle; brother, Lexie Robertson.
He is survived by son, Dayton Wayne Riddle; daughter, Trudy Mae Riddle; grandchildren, Lauren Riddle and Hagan Deeley. A graveside service will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday, May 26, 2018 at the Layman Cemetery with Pastor Randall Sutphin officiating.

Chiyoi Homma Eanes

With sadness, we announce the passing of Chiyoi Homma Eanes, peacefully at  home, on May 20.
She was born in Japan in 1925, first daughter of Kyuichi and Misu Homma.  She married and moved to Maine after WWII finally settling in Check, Virginia for the past 60 years.  She raised her five children, became a US citizen and retired from Maid Bess Corporation in Salem and made many loving friends along the way.
She was always a devoted mother and grandmother, dedicating her life to her family.
She is preceded in death by her parents, her son Mike Eanes, and granddaughter, Jackie Johnson.
She is survived by her sisters, Kazuko, Kimiko, Haruyo, Reiko, Sueko, Hideko; brother Syosaku and a niece and nephews all living in Japan.  Her daughters, Marie (Arthur) Spence, Susan (Steve) Delozier; sons, Steven Eanes, Dale (Carrie) Eanes; grandchildren Michelle (Keith) England, Melissa (Greg) Cox, Matthew (Truc) Eanes, Meghan (Kent) Moles; great-grandchildren, Morgan, Mallary, Mitchell, Ben, Vince and Madison, all who will miss her love and laughter.
Graveside service will be held at 4:00 p.m., Thursday May 24, 2018 at Wilson Cemetery with Gregory Cox officiating.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Floyd County Vol. Fire Dept., PO Box 33, Floyd, VA 24091(Locust Grove, Station #3).

Virginia Margaret Flinchum

Mrs. Virginia Margaret Flinchum, 82 of Waterford, Mississippi, passed away Tuesday, May 15, 2018 at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Oxford.  She was born on May 31, 1935 in Christiansburg, VA to the late Amos Payton Reece and Laura B. Henley Reece.
She leaves to cherish her loving memories; one son Howery L. (Janice) Flinchum of Waterford.  One daughter, Teresa (Joseph) Bishop of Riner, VA.  She also leaves one brother, Daily (Hilda) Reece and one sister, Rose Marie (Donald) Surface both of Salem, VA.  Eight grandchildren, Brian Flinchum, Amy Parker, Kayla Bishop, Chris Dunn, Karrah Williams, Sabrina Glover, Regina Smith and Dale Pannell,twenty-one great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild and a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral service will be held at Noon. Saturday, May 19, 2018 at Maberry Funeral Home with Pastor James Bradley officiating with interment in Roselawn Cemetery in Christiansburg.  Family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. to Noon prior to the service.

Jo Ann Sowers Hale

Jo Ann Sowers Hale of Salem, Virginia, passed away Saturday, May 12, 2018 at Richfield Recovery and Care Center .Jo Ann was born September 27, 1932 to the late Jabe and Stella Poff Sowers. She was preceded in death by her parents, her brothers, Luther and Troy; sisters, Rheba Mabery Vaughn and Winnie Bowers.

She is survived by her daughters, Margurite Ann Sink, Kay Barbour and husband Mike, Vickie Sanders and husband Roger; grandchildren, Heather Steyn, Andy Sink and wife Laura, Jeremy Barbour and wife An, Jonathan Barbour and wife Megan, Krystal Snavely; great grandchildren, Rylan, Griffin, Keegan, Elsie, Luella; step children, Mitzie, Teppi and Joe; her many nieces and nephews that she was so very fond of.

Funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, May 16, 2018 at Maberry Funeral Home with Pastor Mindy Chaffin officiating. Interment to follow in the Barringer Cemetery.  Family will receive friends from Noon to 2:00 p.m., prior to the funeral service.

The family would like to thank staff at Richfield Recovery and Care Center and at the Joe Thomas Center for their kind dedication.

Jo Ann will be greatly missed by her Family and Friends.
