Ronald Stewart Bolt

 

Ronald Stewart Bolt, 55 of Willis, passed away on Tuesday, September 28, 2021. He is preceded in death by his daughter, Olivia Bolt; father, Julius Early “J.E.” Bolt; and brothers, Scott Bolt and Samuel Bolt.

Stewart was an avid musician in his church. He had a deep love for his children. He loved driving his truck and motorcycle and dancing. He devoted 17 years of service to Timberland Mulch.

He is survived by his children, Megan Bolt and Wyatt Bolt; mother, Dorothy Bolt; girlfriend, Kathleen Ray; brothers & sisters-in-law, Steven Bolt and Daniel & Stacie Bolt, Erica Bolt; and nieces & nephews, Christian Bolt,  Miranda Bolt, Bridget Hamm, Deirdra DeBord, Brian Bolt, Katelyn Spruill, Michael Bolt, and  Isaac Bolt.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 3, 2021 in the Maberry Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Rocky Sutphin officiating. Interment will follow in the Mabry Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1 p.m. until 2 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.

James Larry Shank

 


James “Larry” Shank, 85 of Floyd, passed away on Monday, September 27, 2021. Larry was born to Richard Peery Shank and Martha Golden Radford Shank of Floyd on September 21, 1936.

He is survived by his wife of 66 years, (Honey Girl), Agnes John Shank; daughters, Starr Shank-Fischer and husband Ed and Jo Ann Pugh and husband Chris; brother-in-law, James John and wife Sue; and sister-in-law, Candy Whitlock and husband Perry.

Due to COVID, there will not be funeral services at this time.  A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. Interment was held at Stonewall Cemetery.

The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to all the special friends and family that helped during this time.

Kate Josephine Cox Phillips


Kate Josephine Cox Phillips, 90 of Indian Valley, went to her Heavenly home & fully entered the presence of our Lord & Savior Jesus Christ surrounded by her adoring family in the comfort of her home on Wednesday, September 29, 2021.

Kate was greeted in Heaven by her cherished spouse, Benny Ray Phillips; son, Larry Dale Phillips; parents, Ernest & Mattie Cox; brothers, Marvin, Richard, and Carl Cox; and sisters, Avis Cox, Gertrude Harris, Ethelene Hanky, Mable Gallimore, and Ruth Talbert.

Survivors include her son & daughter-in-law, Nathan & Esther Phillips; daughter & son-in-law, Dinah & Wesley Perdue; grandsons, Dale Phillips, James Phillips, and Brian Perdue; granddaughters, Dara Short, Kari McCoy (Austin), Candace Lynch (David), and Kimberly Perdue; great-grandchildren, Bryson, Bradley, Brooklynn, and Braelynn Short, Colt McCoy, Carter, Kenna, Cami, Cole, and Kaylee Lynch, and Natalie and Brea Tessar; brother, Joe Cox; and sisters, Muriel Hollandsworth and Minnie Turman.

Kate was a faithful servant of Christ and will always be remembered for her contagious laugh, unwavering kindness, compassionate spirit, flower arrangements, and musical talents. She will be missed forever and always in our hearts.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 2, 2021 in the Indian Valley Pentecostal Holiness Church with Dale Phillips, Pastor Joe Cox, and Pastor Nathan Phillips officiating. Interment will follow in Big Sand Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. prior to the service at the church.

Roger Lee Holdren, 71 of Christiansburg, passed away on Saturday, September 25, 2021. He is preceded in death by his parents, Archie & Louise Maxey Holdren; and brothers, Larry and Wayne Holdren.

He is survived by his loving wife of 15 years, Faye Cox Holdren of Christiansburg, VA; step-daughter, Amanda Leigh Atkinson; sister, Terry Call of Lancaster, SC; brothers, Mike Holdren of Salem and Lewis & Angie Holdren of Roanoke; sister-in-law, Gaye Holdren; mother-in-law, Iris Colleen Cox; numerous extended family, devoted friends, and church members from all over; and special friends, Louise Richardson and the Darrin Heavner family.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, September 30, 2021 in the Maberry Funeral Home Chapel with Elder Raymond Goad and Elder Junior Conner officiating. Juanita Huff Quesenberry, 66 of Indian Valley, went to be with her Lord, on Thursday, September 16, 2021. She is preceded in death by her parents, Argel & Bessie Huff; son, Jason Quesenberry; son-in-law, Michael Moles; sisters, Ricky Huff and Connie Goad; and brothers, Clarence Huff and Roger Huff.

Juanita knew the true love of God. She loved church and love to come an hour early to pray in the prayer rooms. She loved to visit with people and sing to them. She even loved to weed eat. She truly loved everyone she met.

She is survived by her husband of 49 years, Reidell Quesenberry; son & daughter-in-law, Darren & Lizanne Quesenberry; daughters & son-in-law, Celina Moles and Candace & Bobby Quesenberry; grandchildren, Mellie, Aiden, Bella, Kenidy, and Lyndon Quesenberry, Cody (Haleigh), Austin (Lauren), Tyler (Alexandria), and Samuel Moles, Daniel, Autumn (Jonathan), Jacob, Colby, and Brentley Quesenberry; great-grandchildren, Rylee, Hudson, Brooklyn and Isaik Moles; brothers & sister-in-law, Dewey & Rosa Huff and James Huff; sisters & brothers-in-law, Ruby & Rollie Simpkins and Catherine & Kem Marshall; sisters-in-law, Betty Huff and Judy Huff; and brother-in-law, Danny Goad.

Dwight David Spence

Dwight David Spence, 64 of Floyd, passed away. He is preceded in death by his parents, John Paul Spence and Zelma Mae Thompson Spence; and his brother, Gary Paul Spence.

He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Isaac and Chris Spence; daughter and son-in-law, Stevie and Lowell Bowman; brother and sister-in-law, Robert and Melissa Spence, sisters and brother-in-laws, Velva and Garry Lineback, and Reva Kay and Bobby Pack; grandchildren, Kiley Smith, Natalee Spence, Thomas Bowman, Max Bowman and Harper Spence.

Dwight was a 1974 graduate of Floyd County High School where he played football for the Buffaloes. He was an avid coach of youth baseball and softball. He enjoyed attending and watching Floyd County sports. Dwight was also a huge Dallas Cowboys fan and loved to watch Nascar races.

He was a master craftsman and a very talented cabinet maker. His cabinets are installed in many houses throughout The New River Valley. When he was not working in his cabinet shop, he enjoyed hiking, canoeing and driving around in his classic sports cars.

Dwight was proud of his grandchildren and loved his family. He opened his home to many of his family members throughout the years when they were in need. He didn’t hesitate to help when he was able.

A small, private, family service is planned due to COVID restrictions.

Irene Simpkins Duncan

 

Irene Simpkins Duncan, 84 of Willis, passed away on Monday, September 13, 2021. She is preceded in death by her parents, Stanford & Treva Simpkins; and sister & brother-in-law, Maxine & Melvin Hollandsworth.

She is survived by her husband of 66 years, Kirby Duncan; son & daughter-in-law, Kent & Trish Duncan; daughters & sons-in-law, Rebecca & Roger Pauley and Audra & Doug Weddle; grandchildren, Kaitlyn Weddle and Mckenzie Weddle; brothers & sisters-in-law, Rollie & Ruby Simpkins and Maurice & Christine Simpkins; sisters & brothers-in-law, Betty & David Duncan and Diane & Gene Bishop; special Uncle, Ted Phillips; along with many special nieces and nephews.

Simon Volinsky

 

Simon Volinsky, also as known as "Si", passed away Saturday, September 11th in Winchester Virginia.  He was 89 years old.  

Mr Volinsky was born September 28th, 1931 in the Bronx, New York City, the son of Mary Volinsky and Jack Volinsky.   After high school he studied and played baseball at City College of New York and after college  he joined the Navy Civil Engineer Corps, the "sea-bees", where he managed the building of military bases.  He rose to the rank of Lieutenant and served in Turkey during the Korean War.  In Turkey he met and married Air Force Captain Lynn Hylton of Bluefield, West Virginia.  

He is preceded in death by his wife "Lynnie" to whom, he was married for 57 years; his brother, Albert Volinsky; and sister, Florence Myerson.  

He went on to work for Columbia Broadcasting Systems (CBS) eventually becoming senior vice president in charge of real estate retiring after 29 years in 1989.  Lynn and Simon lived and raised a family of 3 children in Mount Kisco, New York and then retired to Winchester, Virginia in 1999.  After retirement Kevin Anderson and Bruce Cameron helped him to continue his passion for baseball by making him an assistant baseball coach and mentor where he was beloved and known as "Coach V" at Shenandoah University.  The generous crew at Bonnie Blue Southern Market befriended him and he could be found there most mornings with a fresh coffee, a blueberry muffin, and a smile.

He is survived by his three children, Martha Jane Johnson, Nan Leigh Volinsky PhD, and John Bryant Volinsky MD; daughter-in-law, Dee Dee Volinsky,  of Winchester Virginia; and six grandchildren, Megan Elizabeth Johnson, Petty Officer Charles Bryant Johnson, Ethan Bryant Volinsky, Grace Elizabeth Volinsky, Lieutenant JG Ellen Rose Alford, and Midshipmen second class John Charles Volinsky.  

The Volinsky family would like to thank the incredibly compassionate and caring team at Blue Ridge Hospice for all they did during his final weeks.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 18, 2021 in the Maberry Funeral Home Chapel with Kenneth Hylton officiating. Interment will follow in the Phillips-Kessler Cemetery. Warren C. Cox


 

Warren C. Cox, 64 of Willis, passed away on Sunday, September 5, 2021 due to health complications. He was born on December 3, 1956 to the late Bud and Reen Cox.

Warren “Bo” was the beloved husband and soul mate of Ann for 13 years; treasured dad of his daughters, Angie Edmondson & husband Matt, and Amanda Lester; loving Paw Paw and Grandpa of Peyton, William and Warren Brooks, Seldon Gilmore, Ryan, Cameron, Jonathan, and Jeremiah Edmondson; brother to Lloyd Cox (Becky), Eldon Cox (Leslie), and Christine Benson (John); and uncle to numerous nieces and nephews.

Bo was an amazing man who loved his family and friends. He was a member of Beaver Creek Church of the Brethren since 2011. He loved wood working and nature. I know this is a trail that you are walking now…we love you so much and you will be missed so very much, but we will carry you in our hearts down all our trails.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, September 10, 2021 in the Beaver Creek Church of the Brethren with Pastor Marvin Wade officiating. Interment will follow in the Irenia Mayberry Cox Cemetery. The family will receive friends from Noon until 2 p.m. prior to the service at the church.
