Dovemi Lillian Marshall Duncan



Dovemi Lillian Marshall Duncan, 88, of Indian Valley passed away on the evening of Thursday, January 28, 2016, at Heritage Hall Rich Creek. She was preceded in death by her husband, Hascue Bernard Duncan; parents, Clydis Marshall and Edna Duncan; infant son, Bergil Andrew Duncan; sister, Geneva Marshall; brothers, Clarence Marshall, Cobern Marshall, Otis Marshall and Rufus Marshall; half-brother, Monroe Duncan; and son-in-law, Marvin Jarels.
Dovemi is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Mozelle and Gene Morrell, Brenda and Allen Cox, both of Indian Valley; and Nadean Jarels of Christiansburg; granddaughters and their husbands, Melissa and Darren Werner, Lynn and Greg Reed, Angela and Rocky Huff, Kayla and Chad Piediscalzo; grandson, Jameson Jarels; great-grandchildren, Darren and Kendall Reed, Will and Sam Werner, Jana and Shane Huff; sisters, Verna Marshall and Alice Snyder; half-sister, Shirley Bryant; brother-in-law and wife, Vance and Lena Duncan; sisters-in-law, Lorene Marshall and Vivian Marshall.
Dovemi was a dedicated and loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was an excellent cook and homemaker and enjoyed preparing big Sunday dinners for her family. Her interests included family, gardening, canning, crocheting, cross stitching and making handmade arts and crafts. She loved watching all of the wildlife in her yard and was enamored with her birds, especially the red cardinals. She loved spending time with her family and was always so happy to be with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.                                      
If there were three words to sum up the life of this precious woman, they would be family, faith and love. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
Funeral service will be held 2:00 p.m. Sunday January 31, 2016 at the Maberry Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Rocky Huff and Pastor Jay Law officiating. The interment will follow at Indian Creek Cemetery. The family will receive friends from noon till 2 p.m. at Maberry Funeral Home.

Marcella Janice Weddle


Marcella Janice Weddle, 76, of Floyd, passed away Wednesday, January 27, 2016.  She was a faithful employee of Country Cookin’ in Christiansburg for 16 years, where she was a friend to many.
She is survived by her sisters, Elsie Weda Weddle, Vera Dobbins and Joyce Howard; nieces, Teresa and Patty; nephews, Carl and Charlie (CW); great-nephews, Brandon and Bobby; great-nieces, Casey and Katie; five great-great nephews and two great-great nieces.
Funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, January 30, 2016 at Maberry Funeral Home with Pastor Roy Turpin and Pastor Joe Cox officiating with interment in the Topeco Cemetery.  Family will receive friends from Noon to 2:00 p.m. prior to the funeral service.

Leta Harris High





Leta Harris High, 90, passed away peacefully into the arms of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ in the early hours of Thursday, January 21, 2016, at Roanoke Memorial Hospital in Roanoke, Va.  She was born on April 20, 1925, to the late Elder Jethro S. Harris and Ella Moore Harris at Indian Valley in Floyd County, Va.  Leta was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 65 years, James B. High, Jr.; brothers, Oscar, Oden, Archie, Miles and Carlis Harris; sisters, Mamie Harris and Alma Baker.  She is survived by her sister, Pauline Hodges and husband Kenneth of Willis.  
She leaves behind a son, Rick High and his wife Debbie of Troutville; two daughters, Debbie Janney and husband Larry of Roanoke; Cindy Salyer and husband Jim of Floyd; three grandsons, Alan Janney and wife Sarah of Roanoke; Christopher Salyer of Lexington; Shannon Salyer and wife Melissa of Floyd; two granddaughters, Megan Chittum and husband Mike of Hardy; Kristina Watson and husband Micah of Louisville, KY; seven great grandchildren, Jackson and Chase Janney; Ryan, Zac and Nick Chittum; Sharla and Blake Salyer; numerous nieces, nephews and friends.  She will be greatly missed by her faithful canine companion, Bailey.
A CELEBRATION of Life will be held at 11:00 am Tuesday, January 26, 2016 at Floyd Baptist Church (510 East Main Street) in Floyd, Va.
The family would like to thank the physicians and staff at Roanoke Memorial Palliative Care unit for all the care and support they gave Leta and her family.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to her much loved church of 50 years, Floyd Baptist Church of Floyd, Va.

John Lee McLean


John Lee McLean, 57, of Indian Valley, passed away Wednesday, January 20, 2016.     He served in the Navy, was a member of Word of Truth Baptist Church, a wonderful father who set a great example, faithful and  loving  husband and an outdoors man that loved to hunt and fish.

He is survived by his wife of 32 years, Trish McLean; son and fiancee’ , John Jr. McLean  & Angela Hunter and her son Andrew; daughter and son-in-law, Samantha & Jesse Gearheart; grandchildren, Tanner & Taryn Gearheart; and many loving family and friends.

Funeral will be held at 11:00 a.m.,  Tuesday, January 26, 2016  at Maberry Funeral Home with Pastor Warren Bumgarner, Pastor  Murray Agee and  Pastor Kenneth Poston  officiating with burial at his home with Military Rites by Floyd V.F. W. Post #7854 and American Legion Post # 127.  Family will receive friends 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Monday, January 25, 2016 at Maberry Funeral Home.

Ralph “Leon” Belcher, 69 of Floyd, passed away Wednesday, January 20, 2016.
He is survived by his wife, Shirley D. Belcher; daughter & son-in-law, Kim & Mark Hall; son, Jerry Belcher; brothers & sisters-in-law, Guy & Beatrice Belcher, Clyde & Corrine Belcher; sisters and brothers-in-law, Marie Montgomery, Judy & Jody Sparks, Neva Dale & James Church; sister-in-law, Connie Belcher; numerous nieces and nephews.
