Marie Underwood Bolt

 

Marie Underwood Bolt, 73 of Floyd, was called to her Heavenly Home on May 24, 2021. She is preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Buel D. Bolt; and her father and mother, Harlie & Lelia Underwood.

She leaves behind her son & daughter-in-law, Philip & Jaimie Bolt; daughter & son-in-law, Karen & Randall Sutphin; one special grandson, Justin Sutphin; and siblings, Garfield (Joyce) Underwood, Bernice (Mary) Underwood, Gaye (Austin) Harman, and Wayne (Brenda) Underwood.

Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, May 28, 2021 in the Harris Cemetery with Philip Bolt officiating.

John Nelson Graham

 



John Nelson Graham, 77 of Check, passed away on Sunday, May 23, 2021. He is preceded in death by his parents, Nelson & Ollie Graham; sons, David Nelson Graham and John Anthony Graham; brother, Douglas Allen Graham; and daughter-in-law, Jennifer Covey.

John was a lifetime member of the Locust Grove Fire Department and had served as Lieutenant. Following 20 years of work as a qualified machinist, John spent another 20 years of service as a highway and local truck driver alongside his wife, Barbara, before retiring. He led an extraordinary life which included being a Scout Master and an Elder in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

He is survived by his wife, Barbara Conner Graham; daughter & son-in-law, Karen & Doug Lucas; son, Dwayne Graham & Kathy Suroski; grandchildren, Crystal & John, Brandon & Savannah, and Ashley & Blake; great-grandchildren, Christopher, Lilly, Addison, and McKinleigh; sister & brother-in-law, Colleen & Franklin Shephard; brother & sister-in-law, Jerry & Ennis Graham; and special friends, Sandy & Earl Clower and David & Nina Conroy.

Graveside services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 29, 2021 in the Wilson Cemetery with President Alec Carson, John Passic, and Dwayne Graham officiating.

Norma Jean Alderman



Norma Jean Alderman, 84, of Greenville, passed away suddenly at her home on Saturday, May 22nd.

She was a member of Greenville First Church of God. She retired from Food City on the Asheville Hwy.

She is survived by her sons: Russ Alderman and special friend Connie, Jason (Julie) Alderman; her daughter: Teresa (Mark) Hatcher, all of Greenville; four grandsons: Adam (Blair) Hatcher of Nashville, Austin Hatcher of Kingsport, Alex (Ashley) of Greenville, and Lane Doane of Greenville; three great granddaughters: Chloe, Emma and Lucy Hatcher; two brothers and sisters-in-law: Fred and Joyce Hubbard of Martinsville VA, Hubert and Jean Hubbard of Willis VA; an aunt, several cousins, and nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband: Glenn Alderman; sister and brother-in-law: Wanda and Mutt Hylton, and her mother and father: Ellis and Edith Hubbard.

Family will receive friends Tuesday from 3-6 pm at Jeffers Funeral Service Downtown and Wednesday at Maberry Funeral Home in Virginia from 1-2PM.  The Graveside service will be at 2:30PM at Conner Family Cemetery with Pastor Howard Nester officiating.


Harry Cleveland Hill

 

Harry Cleveland Hill, 76 of Floyd, passed away on Sunday, May 23, 2021. He is preceded in death by his parents, Wilmer & Beatrice Hill; brother, Henry Hill; and sister, Helen Goad.

He is survived by his wife, Judy Hill; daughters & sons-in-law, Diana & Jessie Sutphin and Amy & Mark Cardell; grandsons, Dakota and Harrison Carico; granddaughters, Hannah & Justin Fox and Marybeth Sutphin; great-grandchildren, Aria and Luke Fox; sister, Betty Brown; and brother, Ray Hill.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, May 27, 2021 in the Grace Baptist Church with Pastor Steve Lackey officiating. Interment will follow in the Dalton-Turman Cemetery.

Loren Brown Reed


Loren Brown Reed, 88 of Floyd County, passed away on Friday, May 14, 2021. He is preceded in death by his wife, Margie Lucas Reed; parents, Albert & Lottie Reed; and eight older siblings.

He is survived by his sister, Sylvia May Linkous; nephew, Harless Junior Linkous; as well as other nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.

Graveside services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 20, 2021 in the Pleasant Valley Cemetery with Pastor Roy Turpin officiating and Military Rites by the Army National Guard, VFW Post #7854, and American Legion Post #127.

Vivian Webb Hylton

 

Vivian Webb Hylton, 85 of Floyd, passed away on Tuesday, May 11, 2021. She is preceded in death by her parents, Jesse & Gladys Webb; daughter, Rena McAlexander; and three infant sons and one infant daughter.

She is survived by her daughter, Mary Ann Hylton; grandchildren, Angela Blevins (Charles), Ashley Hylton, Dawn McAlexander, April Vaughan (Jason), and Rebecca McAlexander; great-grandchildren, Tyler Hylton, Dylan Toth, Brittney Hylton, Haley Hylton, Zachary Hylton, Skyler Hylton, Emily Hylton, Noah Hylton, Amber McAlexander, Kelsey Vaughan, Bradley Vaughan, and Preston Vaughan; great great-grandson, Cooper Ceritano; brother, Arvin Webb; and sisters, Belle Hylton and Sue Thomas.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, May 14, 2021 in the Maberry Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Jeff Dalton and Pastor Ronnie Collins officiating. Interment will follow in the Alderman Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 9 a.m. until 11 a.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.

Pauline Jane Dalton

 

Pauline Jane Dalton, 71 of Check, passed away at her daughter’s home on May 7, 2021 after a long battle with cancer. She is preceded in death by her husband, Warren Dalton; and son, Everette Cunningham.

Janie was a loving lady who will be greatly missed by all those who loved her. She leaves behind her daughter & son-in-law, Kathy & Bob Lingelbach; six grandchildren, David Bailey, Elizabeth Bailey, Grace Harrison, Anna & Jamie Lester, Lori Cunningham, and Joshua Cunningham; eight great-grandchildren; as well as her loving sister, Cora Jean East.

Per her request, there will not be a funeral service.

Quinton Lee Simpkins, 87 of Christiansburg, passed away on Monday, May 3, 2021. He is preceded in death by his wife, June Reed Simpkins; parents, Orville & Arnie Simpkins; and siblings, Janet S. Howell and Clark Simpkins.

He is survived by his daughter & son-in-law, Sheree’ & Phill Madison; son, David Simpkins; special daughter-in-law, Regina Turman; grandsons, Jason (Whitney) Lafon, Dustin (Krista) Lafon, Landon (Hannah) Simpkins, and Dylan Simpkins; great-grandchildren, Roxy, Gavin and Evan Lafon, Macy, Josiah, Elia and Isla Lafon, and Lincoln Simpkins; brother & sister-in-law, R. Paul & Agnes Simpkins; sisters & brother-in-law, Betty & Jack Saul and Mary S. Akers; special sister-in-law, Joyce (Lonnie) Slaughter; and numerous nieces & nephews.

Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, May 7, 2021 in the Beaver Creek Cemetery with Pastor Marvin Wade, Pastor Phill Madison, Pastor Craig Reed, and Pastor Charlie Barbettini officiating and Military Rites by Dublin American Legion Post # 58.

Nelva Ruth Underwood


Nelva Ruth Underwood, 78 of Stuart, passed away on Saturday, May 1, 2021. She is preceded in death by her parents, Arthur Buren & Mary Treva Underwood; sister, Dorothy Gaye Underwood; and great-niece, Misty Dawn Blevins.

She is survived by her brother & sister-in-law, Noel & Hilda Underwood; sister, Reva Shough; nieces and nephews, Regina D. Massey, Steven M. VanSutphin, Duane Underwood, Angela Akers, and  Tammy Eames; special friend, James Huff; and numerous great-nieces, great-nephews, great great-nieces, and great-great nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, May 5, 2021 in the Slate Mountain Presbyterian Church with Pastor Wesley Conner and Pastor Jeff Dalton officiating. Interment will follow in the Slate Mountain Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. – 11 a.m. prior to the service at the church.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to Mountain Valley Hospice for their love and care.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Slate Mountain Church in care of the Cemetery Fund, c/o Nelene Wood, 2121 Lonesome Dove Drive, Christiansburg, VA 24073.
