Margaret Elizabeth Morris Howery


Margaret Elizabeth Morris Howery, 88 of Floyd, passed away Friday, October 28, 2016.  She was preceded by her brothers, Harry Morris, Frank Morris, Jack Morris and sister, Dorothy Epperly.
Margaret and her husband operated the Pine Tavern Restaurant & Motel in their earlier years.  She went to work for Floyd County School System and worked in the cafeteria until she retired. She was a dedicated blood donor and donated 20 gallons in her lifetime.
She is survived by her sons, Sterling Blake Howery, Jr., Layne Wilson Howery, Joseph Morris Howery; sisters, Betty Joyner, Jeanie Altizer, Frances Teel; 6 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great grandson.
Funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, October 31, 2016 at Maberry Funeral Home with Pastor Roy Turpin officiating with interment in the Jacksonville Cemetery.  Family will receive friend from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Sunday, October 30, 2016 at the funeral home.

Kendall Brown Simpkins


Kendall Brown Simpkins, formally of Floyd, passed away unexpectedly Tuesday,  October 25, 2016 at his residence at Smith Mountain Lake.  He was born June 22, 1962 in Radford Virginia.
He was a father to Justin Simpkins; son to Paul and Marie Simpkins; brother to Kevin Simpkins (Barb), Karen and Phillip Lytton, Kim and Ernie Woods and Kelli Hill. He was loved by his nieces and nephews and  special friends, Mary Kelly and Kenneth  Boyd. 
Kendall was known for his kindness and big heart in helping others.  He took on many jobs and was known for his kindness and abilities.  Kendall will be missed by his family and his many, many friends.
A memorial Service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, October 29, 2016 at the Beaver Creek Church of the Brethren, located on Ridgeview Road in Floyd Virginia with Pastor Marvin Wade officiating.  Family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the church prior to the service. 
A special thanks to Mike and Tammy Rosenberger for the kindness and love they have shown to Kendall and his family.

June Reed Simpkins


June Reed Simpkins, 82 of Christiansburg, passed away Monday, October 24, 2016.  She was preceded in death by her parents, Ora & Charlie Reed; brother & sister-in-law, Gene & Joyce Reed; niece, Karen Joyce Reed.
Born in Floyd county,  June was well known for her work with H&R Block from 1970-2005.  In 1987 she was enrolled as an IRS agent. She fought a courageous battle with cancer since her first diagnosis in 2001. 
She is survived by her husband of 64 years, Quinton Simpkins; son , David Simpkins  & special daughter-in-law,  Regina Turman; daughter & son-law, Sheree’ & Phill Madison; grandsons, Jason (Whitney) Lafon, Dustin (Krista) Lafon, Landon & Dylan Simpkins; great-grandchildren, Roxy & Gavin Lafon, Macy Lafon; sisters & brothers-in-law, Joyce & Lonnie Slaughter, Donna & Bobby Hayden.
Funeral service will be held 11:00 a.m. Thursday, October 27, 2016 at Beaver Creek Church of the Brethren with Pastor Craig Reed, Pastor Marvin Wade and Pastor Roy Turpin officiating with interment in the Beaver Creek Church Cemetery.  Family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Wednesday, October 26, 2016 at Maberry Funeral Home.

Donald Alan Roberson

Donald Alan Roberson, 73 of Salem, formerly of Floyd, passed away Saturday, October 15, 2016.He is survived by his son, Damon Roberson; daughter, Dina Weeks; brother, Harry Roberson and wife Frankie; sister, Velma Reed; grandchildren, Dylan Weeks, Logan Weeks and  Devan Weeks.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.

Howard Ward King, Jr. "Chip"

“Chip” Howard Ward King, Jr., 71 of Bent Mountain, went home to be with the Lord, Sunday, October 16, 2016. He was born at his family farm June 26, 1945.  He was preceded in death byhis parents,”Bud” Howard W. King, Sr. and Eloise Hope Angle King; sister, Cora Lewis King; brother, Harold Wayne King.
“Chip” was the co-owner of King Brothers Farms located in Floyd County.  He loved farming and his family.  He was married 44 years to his beautiful and loving wife, Gladys Mae Conner King.  He rode his John Deere tractor up until the day before he went to his heavenly home.
He is survived by his wife, Gladys Mae Conner King; son, Mark Wayne King; daughter and son-in-law, Tammy Teresa and Randy Simpson; granddaughter, Megan Lynn Simpson; brothers and sisters-in-law, Carson Lee King and Sylvia,”Willie” Will Roger King and Nancy; nieces, Stephenie Perdue, Kristie Nary, Samantha Lunnie; nephews, Chad Conner, Todd Conner and special nephew that was like a son, Bradley Ward King.
Funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m., Wednesday October 19, 2016 at Copper Hill Church of the Brethren with Pastor Dan Johnson and Pastor Morris Wright officiating with interment to follow in the Copper Hill Cemetery.  Family will receive friends 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Tuesday October 18, 2016 at Maberry Funeral Home.

Ralph Victor Wade



Ralph Victor Wade, 90 of Willis, passed away Saturday, October 15, 2016.  He was preceded in death by his wife, Vernell Hall Wade and parents, Raleigh and Icie Wade.
  Ralph spent his life working as a bulldozer operator. He served in the U.S. Army in World War II and the Korean War.  He was an avid hunter and loved wrestling and NASCAR.
 He is survived by two daughters, Carolyn W. Reed and husband Menis of Floyd, and Renva K. Wade and friend, Ronald Weiss of Willis; four grandchildren, Tracey High, Stacey Arnold, Timothy Davis, Brian Davis; eight great-grandchildren, Brandey Brooks, Jaired Brooks, Ayla Davis, Kahlan Dishon, Alexas Dishon, Rain Davis, Banner Davis, Jacob Arnold.
 Funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, October 17, 2016 at Maberry Funeral Home with Rev. Hebron Quesenberry and Pastor Roy Turpin officiating with interment in the Jacksonville Cemetery. Military Rites by Floyd V.F.W. Post #7854 and American Legion Post #127.  Family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Sunday, October 16, 2016 at Maberry Funeral Home.
