Dorothy Harris Akers

Dorothy Harris Akers, 83 of Willis, passed away Friday, May 26, 2017.  A graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, May 28, 2017 at the Willis cemetery with Pastor Jeff Dalton officiating. The family will receive friends from 12:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. at Maberry funeral Home prior to the service.

Virgil Keith Huff

Virgil Keith Huff went home to be with the Lord on Monday, May 22, 2017. Born on August 20, 1922, she lived a long, full life surrounded by family and friends. She was a beloved wife, mother and grandmother. Virgil was a member of Fairview Church of the Brethren, retired from Floyd Garment Company and a hard-working farmer. She was a woman who loved God and served others; strong in spirit, kind, loving, and gentle. 

Preceded in death by her parents, George & Dorothy Keith; her husband of 65 years, Thurman (Jack) Huff; Sister, Beulah Mae Harman; Brother, George Keith, Jr.; Son-in-Law Lowell Aldridge; Daughter-in-Law Rebecca Huff and Great-Grandchild Alex Dillon.

Survived by Daughter & Son-in-Law, Janice and Brad Foro; Daughter, Emma Jean Aldridge; Son, Marvin Huff; Grandchildren, Kelly Lewis (Ken), Gwyn Foro, Craig Foro, Vonda Dillon, Shana Biter (Billy); Travis Aldridge (Courtney); Great-grandchildren, Jessica Lewis, Trey Dillon, Lacie Dillon, Nikki Roop, Ricki Roop, and Logan Johnson; Brother & Sister-in-Law, Wayne & Racene Keith; Sisters and Brothers-in-Law, Ethel & Ross Peacemaker, Corrine Sowers, Lucille & Lloyd Hall; Sisters-in-Law Lorraine Keith, Alzora Wood and Leila Huff.

The family would like to express our appreciation to Amedisys Hospice, caregiver Sandra Huff and Patsy East for taking care of her beloved cat, Tom.

Virgil honored the Lord all her life with a spirit of gratitude. She lived her testimony – a strong, quiet witness to us all. She loved, and she was loved.

Funeral service will be held 1:00 p.m. Saturday, May 27, 2017 at Maberry Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Jason Pratt officiating. Interment will follow in the Jacksonville Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Friday, May 26, 2017 at the funeral home.

Shade Harless Sutphin, Jr.

Shade Harless Sutphin, Jr., 75 of Bassett VA, passed away Monday, May 22, 2017.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Shade Harless Sutphin and Iva Lee (Lindsey) Sutphin; brother, Donald Sutphin.

He is survived by his loving wife, Catherine G. Sutphin; sons and daughters-in-law, Richard and Cindy Sutphin, Steven and Pat Sutphin; grandchildren, Stephanie, Maegan, Samantha, Jessica and Sarah Sutphin, Chris and Josh Meeks; great-grandchildren, Bentley, Joey, and Elsie; sisters and brother-in-law, Kathryn and Darrell Huff, Nita Turman, Doris Harmon; numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family.

Funeral service will be held 12:30 p.m. on Thursday, May 25, 2017 at The Maberry Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor J.D. Harmon officiating. The interment will follow at the Willis Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. prior to the service.

Agnes Marshall Phillips

Agnes Marshall Phillips, 88 of Willis, passed away Saturday, May 6, 2017.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Griffie Henderson and Lillie Cox Marshall; husband, Cobern Dale Phillips; son, Edwin “Dale” Phillips; granddaughter, Jessica Shantel Phillips; grandsons, Jason Quesenberry, Dustin Phillips.

She is survived by her children & their spouses, Diana Owens (Freddie), Becky Gregg, Barry Phillips (Belinda), and Randy Phillips; sister, Blanche Collier; sisters-in-law, Eva Phillips, Leah Gillie (Tom); grandchildren, Phillip Owens, Tonda Phillips, Greg Quesenberry, Mike Owens (Tara), Darrell Owens (Betty Jo), Derek Hodges (Heather), Kimberly Hodge, Joshua Phillips, Joey Phillips; great grandchildren, Jordan Owens, Brittany Quesenberry, Hunter Owens, Morgan Owens, Kortlin Owens, Kaylee and Kai Sherman, Skyler Hodges; great-great grandchildren, Remington Crockett, Klarissa Johnson; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday, May 9, 2017 at Maberry Funeral Home Chapel with Mr. Blake Griffith officiating. The interment will follow at the Showalter Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Monday, May 8, 2017 at Maberry Funeral Home.
