Deane Williams Harris




Deane Williams Harris, 95, of Berryville, Virginia, died Sunday, December 24, 2017 in a local nursing home. Mrs. Harris was born October 11, 1922 in Floyd, Virginia, daughter of the late Payton Raleigh Williams and Ida Elizabeth Fisher Williams.  She worked with the USPS as a contract Post Mistress. Her husband, Quentin Eldridge Harris, preceded her in death in 1999. Surviving are daughters, Linda Matticks and her husband, John, of Berryville, VA and Bette Burgdofer and her husband, Jerry, of Mooresville, NC; five grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends from 11:00 A. M. – 12:00 P. M. Saturday, January 6, 2018, with a memorial service immediately following at 12:00 P. M. at Grace Lutheran Church in Winchester, VA. A luncheon will follow after the service. The family will receive friends from 12:00 – 1:00 P. M. Monday, January 8, 2018, at Maberry Funeral Home, Floyd, VA, followed by a graveside service at 1:00 P. M. in Zion Lutheran Church Cemetery, Floyd, VA. A luncheon will follow after the interment.
Please don’t mourn for me. I had a rich and rewarding life because of my loving family and many good friends.

Howard C. Mannon


Howard C. Mannon of Floyd, passed away Friday, December 29, 2017.  He was born May 16, 1929 to the late Bennie and Roxie Mannon.  In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by two loving sons Philip Mannon and Bruce Mannon; his brother, C.E. Mannon and wife Betty.
He retired from Corning Glass Works and was a carpenter, woodworker and brick mason.  He was an original member of the Floyd Church of Christ where he was song leader and Bible school teacher.  He loved to sing and play the fiddle at Floyd Country Store and other venues.
He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Alma Wade Mannon; son & daughter, Roger & Nancy Mannon; daughter-in-law & husband Anita & Charlie Smith; grandchildren, Neal Mannon & wife Sarah, Chris Mannon &  wife Daphne, Eli Mannon & wife Amber, Ethan Mannon & wife Bethany, Adria Dillon & husband Bill: great-grandchildren, Lydia Mannon, Della Mannon, Eva Dillon; step great-grandchildren, Alex Zalesny and Paul Byrum; sister, Jo Hundley; sisters-in-law, Ila Agee, Edith Hunter (Beverly), Alta Conner, Cora Thompson (Gratton).
Funeral service will be held at 1:30 p.m., Tuesday, January 2, 2018 at Floyd Church of Christ with Mr. Mitchell Floyd officiating with interment in the Mannon Cemetery.  Family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the church prior to the service.

Marc Tracey Moran



Marc Tracey Moran, 51 of Floyd, went to his heavenly home, Monday, December 25, 2017.  "He lives on in our hearts."
He is survived by his daughter, Tracey Moran of Stanton, VA.; mother, Catherine (Jean) Moran of Floyd, VA; brother, Gerald Moran of Copper Hill, VA; nephew, Jason Moran of Copper Hill, VA; aunts, Frances Thompson of Deland, FL and Lucille M. Harris of Floyd; former wife, Robin Moran of Staunton, VA; step-daughter and husband, Brittany & Matt Wise and their children,Kadence and Scarlett; step-daughter, Lindsey Hodges and her children,  Aaden, Sarah and Abigail; several cousins and friends; special friend, Melissa Weddle of Willis, VA and her children Jennifer and Amanda.
A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, January 6, 2018 at Floyd Baptist Church with Rev. Jeff Hudgins officiating.

Iris Dickerson Poff




Iris Emma Dickerson Poff, 99 of Willis, passed peacefully into Jesus’ arms, Monday, December 25, 2017.  She is preceded in death by her husband Henry Poff as well as daughter and son-in-law, Annette and Billy Weeks.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Roselyn and Clinton Hylton; grandchildren, Larry Weeks, June (Danny) Sutphin, Ruth (Tony) Elliott, Ann (Clifford) Boyd; 12 great-grandchildren; 14 great-great grandchildren;  two great great-great grandchildren; sister-in-law, Betty Dickerson; several nieces and nephews; special friend, Robin Murphy. Funeral service will be held at Noon, Wednesday, December 27, 2017 at St. Mark Lutheran Church with Pastor Linda Motley officiating with interment in the Willis Cemetery.  Family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. to Noon prior to the service.

Velva "Winky" Eldree Eaton



Velva "Winky" Eldree Eaton, 77 of Floyd, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, December 12, 2017.  She was preceded in death by her parents Ernest Roosevelt and Bertha Hazel Harris McPeak; her brother Elvin McPeak.
"Winky" was a strong woman, wonderful mother and was always sacrificing for her children. She loved her grandchildren with all her heart and she held a special place in their lives.
Left to cherish her memory are her sons, Charles “Dwayne” McPeak, James Alan Eaton; daughter and son-in-law, Sara Eaton-McDaniel and Shane; grandchildren, Shane Ferrell, Dustin Alan McPeak, Ashley Nicole Lampey, Eli Cole West; sister-in-law, Annie McPeak; nieces, Delsie West Brook, Shelby Rich; Many precious cousins.
Funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, December 15, 2017 at Maberry Funeral Home with Pastor Vernon Dalton officiating with interment in the Harris Cemetery.  Family will receive friends from Noon to 2:00 p.m. prior to the service.

Larry Julian Wade, 70, of Woolwine passed away Tuesday, December 5, 2017. He is survived by his wife, Nancy Wade; sons & daughter-in-law, Lewis Turpin, Dennis Wade, Kenneth Wade (Jessica); daughters & son-in-law, Cathy Belcher (Michael), Vicky Turpin; nine grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren, one great-great grandchild; brothers & sisters-in-law, Ray Wade (Ann), Jim Wade (Elaine); sister, Mary Lou McAlexander.  Funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, December 8, 2017 at Maberry Funeral Home with Pastor Roy Turpin and Rev. Michael Bowman officiating.  Interment will follow in the Williams Cemetery. Family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
