Mildred "Bobo" Angle Thomson



Mildred “Bobo” Angle Thomson, 94 of Floyd, passed away Saturday, October 28, 2017.  She is preceded in death by her husband, George M. Thomson; daughter, Georgia Melinda “Linda” Ingram; sister and brothers, Frances Knowles, Lewis Angle and Sam Angle. She is survived by her grandsons and granddaughters-in-law, Richard and Kimberly Ingram, Wes and Bonita Ingram, James and Jeaneen Ingram, Joseph Ingram; great-grandchildren, Brian & Ashley Ingram, Amber Ingram, Brittany Ingram, Danielle Ingram, Jolie Ingram, Jordan Ingram, Jonah Ingram; brother, John Angle; special friend, Donna Denham.

She was a graduate of Check High School and worked at Check High School as a secretary. She enjoyed her job as a school board payroll clerk for 29 years. Mildred finished her employment working with her nephews at Christiansburg Cash Register. In retirement she enjoyed playing Bingo and spending time with her grandchildren.

Funeral service will be held 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, October 31, 2017 at Maberry Funeral Home with Rev. Darren Landon officiating with interment to follow in the Restvale Cemetery. Family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Monday, October 30, 2017 at the funeral home.

Joe L. Coggin


Joe L. Coggin, 93 of Stoneville, NC, formerly of Eagle Rock VA, passed away Thursday, October 26, 2017.  He was a Veteran serving in the US Navy in World War II in the South Pacific. He was a Research Game Biologist receiving the National Conservation Award as well as others, for his work.  He was well known for his research of Black Bear, Grouse and Cougar.  (He was known as Cougar Coggin).  He was a nationally published author and well known for his books of the White Tail Deer and Wild Turkey in VA.

He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Hazel DeHart Coggin; daughters; Linda C. Krause and husband Kerry J. Krause, Patricia C. Gilbert and husband Michael S. Gilbert, Elizabeth C. Diggs and husband John W. Diggs; Grandchildren, Joseph M. Krause and wife Allison Sterrett Krause, Elizabeth K. Presutti and husband Dominic Presutti, Wm. Clee Gilbert, Cody J. Gilbert, Bradley C. Diggs, Stephanie D. Grace and husband Daniel Grace; Great-Grandchildren, Gregory J.S. Krause, David M.S. Krause, Stella M. Presutti.

Funeral service will be held at 2:30 p.m., Sunday, October 29, 2017 at Maberry Funeral Home with Pastor Richard Stevens officiating with Military Rites by Floyd VFW Post #7854 and American Legion Post #127. Interment will follow in the Meadows of Dan Baptist Church Cemetery.  Family will receive friends an hour prior to the service.

Sherman Willie Buckner, 75 of Floyd, passed away Tuesday, October 24, 2017.  He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward Willie and Opal Buckner; sister, Polly Huff.
He is survived by his wife of 48 years,  Brenda Lou Buckner; sons, Sherman Buckner (Carolyn), Jeff  Buckner; daughter, Dreama Thomas (Greg); Seven grandchildren; Three Great-Grandchildren; brother, Troy Buckner; sisters, Peggy Underwood, Madalene Cox (Alfred); several nieces, nephews, aunts,  uncles, sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law.

Michael Leon Moles, 44 of Willis, passed away Sunday, October 22, 2017.
He is survived by his wife of 23 years, Celina Moles; father, Leon Moles (Mary); mother, Kay Worrell (Rusty); sons, Cody (Haleigh), Austin (Lauren), Tyler, Samuel; maternal grandmother, Lena Mae Webb; paternal grandmother, Elvia Moles; brother, Dwayne Hamm (Courtney); sister, Missy Moles (Elmer); father-in-law & mother-in-law, Reidell & Juanita Quesenberry sister-in-law, Candace (Bobby) Quesenberry; brother-in-law, Darren( Lizanne) Quesenberry; several aunts and uncles; several nieces and nephews.

Ann Lester Morgan


Ann Lester Morgan, 69 of Riner, passed away Thursday, October 19, 2017.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Ray Morgan; parents, James and Zell Lester; brothers, Jimmy Lester, Curtis Lester, Benny Lester; sister, Audrey Underwood.

She is survived by her brother and sister-in-law, Ronny and Betty Lester; sisters and brothers-in-law, Mildred Memitt, Barbara and Kenneth Kehley, Janice and Claude Miles Jr., Iris and Dean Sowers. Joyce and Lloyd Thompson; nieces, Debbie, Cindy, Shelby, Kim, Becky, Rhonda, Ann Michelle; nephews, Bill, Ralph, Ted, Mark, James Jr, Eddie, Claude III, Tim, Michael, David, Jimmy, Ricky, Wayne, Curtis, Wade; many other great- nieces and great-nephews.

Jerry Wayne Burnette



Jerry Wayne Burnette, of Roanoke, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Wednesday, October 11, 2017. He is preceded in death by  his companion Margaret Sumner; his father Jeremiah Jethro Burnette; his mother, Velma Recie Moran; and his sister, Linda Harrington.

Jerry was born in 1947 in Radford, Virginia. He spent his childhood in Floyd, Virginia, but resided in Roanoke, Virginia most of his life. He was a painter for over 30 years. He enjoyed his work, family, friends, gardening, the lottery, Jeopardy, sudoku puzzles, and attending his family reunions. Jerry liked to dance and knew how to have a good time. He loved western, country music, and his beloved pets Molly and Nikki.
Jerry was survived by his daughters and sons in law, Lisa and Mark Mundy, and Constance and Scott Stinson; his grandchildren and step grandchildren, Kristin and Ryan Janney, Zachary Mundy, Katlin Hogge, Jacob Mundy, Steven Knisley, Samantha Stinson, Adriana Knisley and Paige Stinson; his great-grandchildren, Abigail, Brayden, Raina, and Aria; his sisters and brothers in law, Loretta and Irvine Hylton and Debra and Jamie Harmon; a large extended family and many friends.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, October 18, 2017 at Maberry Funeral Home, 367 South Locust St., Floyd, Virginia 24091. Visitation is at 12 pm. The Memorial Service is immediately after at 1pm. Procession to graveside will follow the service.
