Mary Ann Beaver


Mary Ann Beaver, 89 of Floyd, passed away on Monday, October 18, 2021. She is preceded in death by her husband, Howard K. Beaver; and son, Howard T. Beaver.

Mary enjoyed reading and meditating in her Bible daily. She was also a nature lover and enjoyed watching the birds and other wildlife and her special friend Chippy. She also enjoyed home making and caring for her family.

She is survived by her sons & daughters-in-law, Ricky & Rosemary Beaver, Kenneth Beaver, Joseph Beaver, Morgan & Robbee Beaver, Steven Beaver; daughters & son-in-law, Ruth Junger and Rachel & Alvin Phelps; 11 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren; and a host of spiritual brothers and sisters at the Floyd Congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, October 22, 2021 in the Maberry Funeral Home Chapel with Mr. William Fenwick, Mr. Tim Johnson, and Mr. Adam Toney officiating. Interment will follow in the Big Oak Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1 until 2 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.

Paulita Clay McPeak

 

Paulita Clay McPeak, 92 of Roanoke, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, October 14, 2021. She was born in Willis, VA on May 23, 1929 to Mack and Ora Clay.

She is survived by her son & daughter-in-law, Gerald & Karen McPeak; grandchildren, Kristen McPeak, Jenna Cole, and David McPeak; and great-grandchildren, Mason and Hayes Cole.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Charlie Avis McPeak; and siblings, Donald Clay, Dessie Phillips, and Colby Clay.

Paulita was employed as a seamstress prior to marrying Avis McPeak. Once married, she was a homemaker and helped operate a dairy farm in Willis. Avis and Paulita were married for 33 years before his passing. She was known for her great cooking and all of the family enjoyed her wonderful meals that she took great care and pride in preparing.

Avis and Paulita were lifelong Primitive Baptists. They were longtime members of the Greasy Creek Church in Willis and later Mt. Olive Church in Roanoke.

Paulita enjoyed her family, watching them grow and was proud of their accomplishments. She will be missed as a mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, great-grandmother, relative and friend.

Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 23, 2021 in the Greasy Creek Cemetery with Elder Dolph Painter officiating.

Janice Dawn Bolt Midkiff

 

Janice Dawn Bolt Midkiff, 57 of Dugspur, passed away on Wednesday, October 13, 2021 at Northern Regional Hospital.  Mrs. Midkiff was born in Mount Airy, NC on September 10, 1964.  She was preceded in death by her sister, Regina Kay Bolt Dalton; paternal grandparents, Theodore and Gracie Alderman Bolt; and maternal grandparents, Rufus and Daisy Gardner Burnette. 

Survivors include her husband, Richard Midkiff of Dugspur; daughters, Keshia Stanley (Matt) of Fries and Kimberly Midkiff of Belmont, NC; parents, S.G. and Pauline Burnette Bolt of Willis; sister, Joy Slusher (Tom) of Hillsville; brother, Ronnie Bolt (Karen) of Floyd; grandson, Hix Stanley; and several nieces and nephews. 

Janice had a special gift for working with children.  She taught at Mira Fork Christian Academy and worked in Carroll County Public Schools as a substitute teacher for 18 years.  Janice graduated from Wytheville Community College in 2016 with a general education degree and also an associate of Arts and Science Degree with a major in Education.  At 54 years old she graduated from Old Dominion University in 2018 with a Bachelor of Science Degree.  She has been employed by Floyd County Public Schools as an Instructional Assistant for the last two years.

Funeral services will be held on Sunday, October 17, 2021 at Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Chapel at 2:00 PM with Rev. Dewey Weaver officiating.  Burial will follow in the Gardner Memorial Cemetery.  The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday, October 16, 2021 from 6:00 until 8:00 PM.  A guestbook is available online by visiting www.vaughanguynnandmcgrady.com.  Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Chapel is serving the family.

Maxine Hoback Peters

 

Maxine Hoback Peters, 84 of Check, passed away on Tuesday, October 12, 2021. She is preceded in death by her husband, Shirley Peters; sons, Rodney Peters and Terry Peters; daughters, Elizabeth Hodges and Cindy Waldron; and sister & brother-in-law, Polly & George Bowles.

She is survived by her daughters & sons-in-law, Susan Pittman, Patsy & Grover Stump, Steve Hodges and David Waldron; grandchildren, Chris Peters, Adam Pittman, Faye Erchull, Lee Hodges, Bernice Dyne, Patricia Stump, Cleveland Stump, Chad Waldron, Kyle Waldron, Greg Peters, and Renee Vance; 25 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and brother, Norman “Buck” Hoback.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 16, 2021 in the Maberry Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Chuck Thomas officiating. Interment will follow in the Vest Cemetery. The family will receive friends from Noon until 2 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.

Linda Gail Bolt

Linda Gail Bolt, 65 of Meadows of Dan, passed away on Saturday, October 9, 2021. She is preceded in death by her father, Tellie McPeak.

She is survived by her mother, Eula McPeak; husband, Pete Bolt; daughter & son-in-law, Amy & Jonathan Atkins; brothers & sisters-in-law, Marshall & Billie Jo McPeak and Coonie & Kristi McPeak; grandchildren, Alyssa Whaley and Jacob Atkins; special friend, Joyce Greene; nephews and niece, Justin McPeak (Jessica) and Casey McPeak (Brandey), Brian White, and Krissy White; and great-nieces and great-nephews, Ada, Lily, Montgomery, Finnley, and Raney McPeak.

Graveside services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 14, 2021 in the Harris Cemetery with Joyce Greene officiating. The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. - Noon prior to the service at the Maberry Funeral Home Chapel.

Rosie Graham Huffman

Rosie Graham Huffman, 75 of Radford, went Home to be with the Lord on Saturday, October 9, 2021. She is preceded in death by her parents, Guy & Catherine Graham; and brother, Raymond Graham.

Rosie loved her family, spending time outdoors in the sunshine and completing word searches. She was a member of Auburn United Methodist Church.

She is survived by her husband, Rufus T. Huffman; son, Tommy Huffman; daughter & son-in-law, Diana & Mike Conner; and grandchildren, Abby Conner, Graham Conner, and Hannah Huffman.

Memorial services will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 14, 2021 in the Maberry Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Roy Turpin officiating. The family will receive friends from 2 p.m. until 4 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.

Glenn Darrell Wade, 58 of Floyd, passed away on Friday, October 8, 2021. He is preceded in death by his daughter, Sheena Wade; mother, Frances Wade; and brother, Danny Wade. 

He is survived by his wife of 39 years, Connie Sue Wade; sons & daughters-in-law, Brandon & Karie Wade and Chris & Mindy Wade; daughter & son-in-law, Britney & Dusten Kennedy; grandchildren, Karleigh, Brooklyn, Nadalee, Trinity, Mia, Jase, and Layla; father, Coy (Brenda) Wade; brothers & sisters-in-law, Dale & Vicky Wade and Doug & Laurie Wade; father & mother-in-law, William & Claudine Vance; several nieces and nephews; and special dog, Paxton. 

  Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 10, 2021 in the Maberry Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Warren Bumgarner, Pastor Murray Agee, and Pastor Gene Koger officiating. Deborah Sue Brown

Deborah Sue Brown, 71 of Hampton, passed away on Monday, October 4, 2021. She is preceded in death by her husband, Elbert Dexter Agnew; son, Michael Dean Agnew; father, Henry Bernard Scott; mother, Mary Astor Hawks Scott; and brothers, Joel Dean Scott and Richard Wayne Scott.

She is survived by her son, Ricky Allen Agnew; daughter, Mary Sue Agnew; three grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; partner for life, David Skorupsky; siblings, Carol Elaine Haithcock, Phyllis Ann Harris (Glenn), Tommy Bernard Scott (Judy), Sandy Jean Littreal (Clark), Ronnie Dale Scott (Wanda), Gary Harmon Scott (Frances), Timmy Kevin Scott, and Tammy Lynn Hall (Lenny); and numerous nieces and nephews.

Carlie Hoover Quesenberry

 

Carlie Hoover Quesenberry, 90 of Willis, passed away on Monday, October 4, 2021. He is preceded in death by his wife, Clara Q. Quesenberry; parents, A. Jerome & Jessie Jennings Quesenberry; and sisters, Bessie Pierce, Blanche Farley, Hannah Harris, and Lousia Lindsey.

He is survived by his son, Dennis L. Quesenberry.
