Michael halajcsik, Jr.


Michael Halajcsik, Jr., 87, of Floyd, VA, formerly of Linden, NJ, passed away Wednesday, March 28, 2018. Family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday, March 31, 2018 at Maberry Funeral Home.

Interment will follow in the Saint Gertrude Cemetery, Colonia, NJ at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, April 3, 2018.

Joyce Martin Duncan

Joyce Martin Duncan, 78 of Vinton, passed away Wednesday, March 28, 2018.
She is preceded in death by her husband Arnold Lee “Zeke” Duncan.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Bonnie and Bud Atkinson; granddaughter, Becky Scott (David); brother, Owen R. Martin (Christine); sisters, Hazel Marshall, Judy Martin; several Nieces and Nephews. 
A Memorial Service will be held at a later date.

Bob Arlen Sowers, Sr.

Bob  Arlen Sowers, Sr.,77 of Willis, passed away Monday, March 26, 2018.  He was preceded in death by his wife, Joan Clendenin Sowers; son, Bob Arlen Sowers, Jr.; parents, Mary Tolbert and Tellie  Thornton Sowers.

He was loved and will be greatly missed.

He is survived by his sister , Vera McPeak (Burell); nieces, Sandra Bradley(Frank), Gale Jones(Larry); nephew, Kenny McPeak(Jennifer) and family; special kids, Tina Marshall and family, Brian Huff & family, Matthew Gallimore and family; 9 great nieces & nephews; uncles, Wendell Sutphin, Brown Sutphin; aunt, Frances Thompson; extended family and friends; and his furry friend  “Baby”.

Funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, March 31, 2018 at Maberry Funeral Home with Pastor Roy Turpin officiating.  Interment will follow at Jacksonville Cemetery with Military Rites by Floyd VFW Post #7854 and American Legion Post #127.  Visitation will be held from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Friday March 30, 2018 at Maberry Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers family request donations be made to Floyd County Fire Dept. Willis Station 2, PO Box 33 Floyd, VA 24091.

Donald Lee Phillips

Donald Lee Phillips, 71 of Christiansburg, passed away Monday, March 19. 2018.  He was preceded in death by his father, Junior Eldridge Phillips.
He is survived by his mother, Eva Hylton Phillips; daughters, Stacy Lee Hite & husband, William Travis Hite, Lindsay Ann Osborne; grandchildren, Gavin Osborne, Jaedyn Hite, Jaxon Hite; sisters, Marilyn Duncan & RB Duncan, Reta & Jeff Faris, Colette & Mike Donnelly; numerous nieces & nephews.
To honor his wishes there will not be any funeral service.

Harold Edward Spence


Harold Edward Spence, 92 of Willis, passed away Sunday, March 11, 2018.  He was preceded in death by his wife, Evelyn Marshall Spence; parents, James and Vanada Spence; twin sister, Helen Trump. 
He is survived by his sisters, Kathleen Spence, Pattie (James) Bolt, Ruth Higgs; sisters-in-law, Lillian Alexander, Bertha (Marshall) Baldwin; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, March 16, 2018 at Maberry Funeral Home with Pastor Jeff Dalton officiating.  Visitation will be one hour prior to the service.  Burial will be in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery.

Helen Elizabeth McNiel Janney

Helen Elizabeth McNiel Janney passed away Wednesday, March 7, 2018.  She was a lifelong resident of the Check community of Floyd County.
Helen was the daughter of the late James Herbert McNiel and Lura Nannie McNiel, and the widow of the late Charles Raye Janney.  She was preceded in death by a brother, James Ralph McNiel; and a sister Garnet Irene Wimmer.
She is survived by three daughters, Esther Raye Janney, Eleanor Louise Janney, and Barbara Ann Goodwin; two grandchildren, Julie Wilburn and Chip Goodwin; and two great-grandchildren Bailey Wilburn and Morgan Wilburn.
The family would like to extend their thanks to her loving caregivers.
At Helen’s request, a private ceremony will be held at a later date. Helen proudly lived 98 years in service and love to her family and community.  We are at peace knowing she is now reunited with her husband and those who went before her.
