Linnette Conner Rupe


Linnette Conner Rupe, 47 of Check, departed this world on Thursday, January 26, 2023.

She is survived and dearly missed by her family including her daughters, Caytie and Amber Rupe; her parents, Mike & Evelyn Conner; her sisters, Deana Trail and Debra Gallimore; and many others who loved her dearly including Robbie Rupe and Linda Carnell.

The family will receive friends from 2 p.m. until 4 p.m. on Friday, February 3, 2023 in the Maberry Funeral Home Chapel.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Floyd County Humane Society, P.O. Box 862, Floyd, VA 24091.

John Daniel Conroy Sr.



John Daniel Conroy, Sr., 86 of Pilot, entered his Heavenly Home on Friday, January 27, 2023. He is preceded in death by his wife, Loretta Rossignol Conroy; parents, Kenneth & Ethel Conroy; daughter-in-law, Mary Conroy; and brother, Robert Conroy.

He is survived by his children & their spouses, John & Brenda Conroy, Debbie Stout, Kenneth Conroy, and David & Nina Conroy; grandchildren, Stephen Stout, Danny Stout, Brian Stout (Miranda), Kenneth Conroy, Jr. (Heather), Billy Conroy (Lisa), Ashley Gainey, John Conroy, III (Sierra), and Ann Loretta Conroy; great-grandchildren, Dylan Stout, Aleaha Stout, Melanie Stout, Madeline Stout, Jaxon Stout, Ariah Stout, Kayla Stout, Jasmine Gainey, Letty Conroy, Raylen Conroy, and Michael Conroy; and brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Raymond Rossignol (Sherry), Cecila Lachance, and Joan McLeod (Ronnie); and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, January 30, 2023 at the Maberry Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Graham Mitchell officiating. Interment will follow in the Wilson Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1 p.m. until 2 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.

Beulah Akers Sweeney

 

Beulah Akers Sweeney, 81 of Floyd, passed away on Thursday, January 26, 2023. She is preceded in death by her parents, Colon & Bessie Akers; and her brothers & sisters-in-law, Marlin & Freeda Akers, Harless & Joan Akers, Curtis & Joyce Akers; sister & brother-in-law, Marie & Eldridge Trail; infant sister, Irene Frances Akers; and sister-in- law, Nita Akers.

Beulah loved her family, grandchildren, church family and the Lord. She enjoyed working along-side her husband in their family business as well as flower gardening.

She is survived by her loving husband of 66 years, Bruce Sweeney; daughters & sons-in-law, Rebecca & Chris Harman and Sarah & Kevin Sowers; grandchildren, Emma Masneri (Kevin), Drew Harman (Kaitlyn), Tate Harman, Camron Sowers, and Chandler Sowers; brother, Grover Akers; sister-in-law, Cindy Eanes; brothers-in-law, Doug & Joyce Sweeney and Barry & Judy Sweeney; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, January 29, 2023 at the New Haven Baptist Church with Chris Harman, Pastor Allen Agee, and Jerry Akers officiating. Interment will follow in the Jacksonville Cemetery. There will not be a visitation prior to the service.

Suzanne Smith Yeatts

Suzanne Smith Yeatts, 79 of Copper Hill, passed away on Thursday, January 26, 2023. She is preceded in death by her husband, Albert “Buck” Yeatts; parents, Sherman & Lorraine Smith; and sister, Mary Jane Smith.

She is survived by her sons, David Yeatts (Shirley) and Michael Yeatts (Melinda); daughter, Dawn Yeatts (Jerry); grandchildren, Chad Mills (Melissa), Crystal Burton (Derrick), Jennifer Yeatts, and Chelsea Yeatts; great-grandchildren, Bailey, Kinsey, and Jackson Mills, Grace and Kayleigh Burton, and Angela Huff; special cousin, Sheerie King; and sister-in-law, Lois Board.

Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 28, 2023 in the Restvale Cemetery with Pastor Roy Turpin officiating.

Mary Edith Wade


 

Mary Edith Goad Wade, 98 of Floyd, was gently received in the arms of Jesus on Friday, January 20, 2023, with her daughter, Dawn by her side.

Mom will be reunited with her husband of 53 years, Harry Marvin Wade, her parents Charlie Arthur “Bud” Goad, Josie Ada Evaline Moles Goad, her brother Harry Goad, her sisters Belva Goad Dalton, Carmine “Booty” Goad and grandson Chris Hall.

To carry on her legacy are her grandchildren, Calvin Lee Harris, Jr. (Michelle), Mark Harris and Matt Harris. Great  grandchildren, Madison, Morgan, Mason, Max, Harley and Cassidy.

Mom’s legacy of independence, strong work ethic and her spirit will be forever in the hearts of her family. Mary’s greatest passion in life was taking care of her family. Mary was a long time member of Falling Branch United Methodist Church. She attended church until her health no longer allowed her to. The church family remained close to her heart.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, January 24, 2023 at 1:00 p.m. in the Maberry Funeral Home Chapel with Angie Sowers officiating. Interment will follow in the Jacksonville Cemetery. The family will receive friends from Noon until 1 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, family requests donations be made to Falling Branch United Methodist Church, 1260 Floyd Hwy S, Floyd VA, 24091.

No matter how old they get your children will still love, support and provide care for you. Let us not become weary in doing for our parents. The word of our God shall stand forever.

Robert Lee Nester, Sr.


Surrounded by his loving family, Robert Lee Nester, Sr., 92, of Pine Knoll Shores, N.C. and formerly of Floyd, Va., went to be with our heavenly father on January 17, 2023.

Robert was preceded in death by his wife, Eloise Cunningham Nester; long-time companion, Pat Nearhood; daughter, Deborah Nester Quesenberry Lucas; grandsons, Kevin John Nester and Bryan Matthew Nester.

Surviving are his children, Charlotte Phillips (Duane) of Williamsburg, Va., Robert Nester, Jr. Morehead City, N.C., Jeanette Nester Brown (Dale) Pine Knoll Shores, N.C., Teresa Nester (Susan) Floyd, Va., Dale Nester (Stephanie) Fredericksburg, Va.; 13 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; 5 great-great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Robert was a veteran of the United States Marine Corps, serving during the Korean War. He was a graduate of Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University and a retiree of the Radford Army Ammunition Plant.

Robert took great pride when his children and grandchildren reached out to him for his technical expertise. He was the family's YouTube/Google guy before there was such a thing. He loved golf, boating around the Southern Outer Banks, clamming, and gardening, but his greatest passion was spending time with his family.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, January 22, 2023 at the Floyd Baptist Church with Julius Dickerson officiating. Interment will follow in Jacksonville Cemetery with Military Rites by the Marine Corps Funeral Honors. The family will receive friends from 1 p.m. until 2 p.m. prior to the service at the church.

Dad, Papa ...we promise we will watch for deer and slow down so as not to get a speeding ticket. We closed the refrigerator door, turned the lights off, we made up our minds, went out the door (in or out) and closed it behind us.
