Kay (Kathleen) Baur


 
Kay (Kathleen) Baur, wife of Charles Baur passed peacefully at home on June 24, 2018, in Floyd, VA.  Born on September 12, 1936 in Irvington, NJ to Mary Sutto Martin and Alden Austin “Bill” Martin.  She graduated from Irvington High School in 1954.

  She is survived by her husband of 57 years, Charles, three children, John (Susan) of Manchester, NJ, Denise (Timothy) Grant and Cheryl Limbach of Floyd, VA.  She is also survived by her six grandchildren, Christopher, Michael, Brian, Joseph, Robert and Grace.  She is also survived by Joe and Wendy Amodeo of Dunellen, NJ and three brothers, George Martin of West Virginia, Paul Martin (Mary) of Lakewood, NJ and John of Toms River, NJ along with nieces, nephews and friends. 

She started and established her own bookkeeping service in 1983, Kay’s Bookkeeping Service before retiring after over 30 years in the business. She enjoyed teaching ceramics, arts and crafts, cooking, gardening and spending time with her family and friends. She loved traveling, especially with her grandchildren and looked forward to speaking with them, sharing secrets and the going on’s in their lives. She loved to brag about her grandchildren every chance she got. Most of all she enjoyed spending every day with her best friend and husband Charles.


    In lieu of flowers the family is asking for donations to Project Linus, Mercer County NJ Chapter. At Project Linus, a non-profit organization, we provide homemade blankets to children in need. Our blankets are lovingly made by adults and children from all walks of life and many different sources. Our mother loved children and enjoyed watching and provided much encouragement while we created warm, beautiful blankets for children in need during her illness. Donations may also be made to  Foundation Fighting Blindness.

Russell Akers


Russell Akers, 79 of Floyd, passed away Tuesday, June 26, 2018. He was preceded in death by his wife, Beatrice “Jewel” Akers; parents, George William and Tymanda Emaline Dickerson Akers; brothers, George Akers, Greenberry Akers, Noah Akers; sisters, Robertene Clemmons, Betty Rierson.

He is survived by siblings, Mary Akers, Henry Akers, Linda Duncan (James); numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, June 29, 2018 at the Maberry Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Scott Martin, Pastor Warren Bumgarner and Pastor Ronald Smith officiating. The interment will follow at the Sowers Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, June 28, 2018 at the Funeral Home.

Bernard James Cox




Bernard James Cox, age 92, passed away peacefully on June 21, 2018 at Radford Rehabilitation Center.  He was born on January 20, 1926 to James P. Cox and Jessie Altizer Cox of Floyd County.  He was preceded in death by his wife of 69 years, Bessie Hollandsworth Cox, sister, Effie Higgs, brothers, Russell Cox, Coleman Cox and Phillip Cox and an infant sister.
He is survived by four children and their  spouses; Brenda and Wayne Johnson, Sandra Rorrer, Donald and Debbie Cox, Wayne and Erma Cox; 14 grandchildren; 3 step-grandchildren; 39 great-grandchildren; sisters,  Reba Wade, Glenda DeHart; brother, Allen Cox.
He was a retired dairy farmer in Montgomery County and a disabled veteran of World War II having served in the Battle of the Bulge.
He was a faithful member of the Primitive Baptist Church.
Funeral service will be held at Noon, Saturday, June 23, 2018 at Valley View Primitive Baptist Church with Elder Larry Hollandsworth and Elder Raymond Goad officiating.  Interment will follow in the Cox Family Cemetery with Military Rites by the Army National Guard.  Family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. to Noon prior to the service at the church.

Benny Lee Lester


Benny Lee Lester, 77 of Floyd, went to his heavenly home Tuesday, June 5, 2018.  He was preceded in death by his parents, Elbert and Essie Weeks Lester; brother’s Billy and EJ; sisters, Bonnie, Jean and Peggy.

He is survived by his loving family, wife Annie Lester; daughter and son-in-law, Angie and Tim Wright; three grandchildren, Allison, Annalee and Andrew Owens; brother and sister-in-law, Donald and Marie Lester; brother-in-law, Tazewell Altizer; sister-in-law, Florence Lester; many nieces and nephews; honorary granddaughters, Hannah Quesenberry and Madilyn Quesenberry; special friend Randy Moran;  numerous other  friends.

Funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, June 9, 2018 at Pleasant Valley Church of the Brethren with Pastor Roy Turpin officiating with interment in the White Rock Cemetery.  Family will receive friends from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm, Friday, June 8, 2018 at Maberry Funeral Home.
