LeMan H. Dobrenz, Sr.


LeMan H. Dobrenz,Sr., 79 of Floyd, passed away Sunday, October 25, 2015.  He is now with his beloved wife, Ellie. He loved his son as well as all of his animals.

He is survived by his son, Leman Dobrenz, Jr. of Floyd.

Lilas Hollandsworth Higgs Webb

Our precious Mother, Lilas Hollandsworth Higgs Webb, 90, of Floyd, VA, was called home to be with the Lord on Saturday, October 17, 2015 while she was surrounded by her loving children at Lewis Gale Medical Center.  Lilas was born on September 3, 1925, to her late parents, Taswell and Ocie Hollandsworth. 
She is survived by her children: Betty (Gary) Crawford, Maggie (Charles) Sutphin, Dian (Garad) Williams and Harold (Amy) Higgs and her step-children: Thelma Via and Frances Helms.  She was preceded in death by her husbands, Ottis Higgs and Luther Webb of whom she was caregiver of both for many years; grandson, Mark Sutphin,  daughter-in-law Donna Higgs and sisters, Winnie Dalton and Beulah Quesenberry. 
Lilas is also survived by her much-loved grandchildren: Debbie (Mark) Sutphin, Kimberly (Jay) Streicher, John Sutphin, Michael (Kim) Williams, Travis (Dani) Higgs and Bryan (Arielle) Higgs;  step-grandchildren: Chance (Danielle) Crawford and Christian Crawford, Phillip Becher, Andrew Becher; great grandchildren: Corey Sutphin, Cameron Sutphin,  Isaiah Higgs, Joshua Streicher, Mackenzie Williams, Olivia Streicher, Virginia Higgs, Sydney Williams and Caleb Williams; and step-great grandchildren and families: Gabe (Traci) Vest, Heidi (James)  Edwards and Carrie (Scott) Payne. 
Also surviving are sisters: Irene Gallimore, Anita Quesenberry, Nina Browning, Vada Cox, Josephine Alderman, Brenda Howell, Wanda Grubb and Martha Bower;  brother: Ren Hollandsworth; sister-in-law: Mary Higgs and a host of other relatives and friends.
Lilas was a member of Floyd Baptist Church where in the past she sang in the choir and enjoyed her ministry in the church nursery. Special thanks to all who lovingly helped care for Mom during her illness.  Also, thanks for all the special acts of kindness shown to Mom and family that are too numerous to mention.
Funeral will be held 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, October 20, 2015 at Maberry Funeral Home with Pastor Jeff Hudgins officiationg with interment to follow in the Captain George Cemetery.  Family will receive friends 11a.m. to 1:00 p.m. prior to the funeral service. Arrangements by Maberry Funeral Home.

Mark Wayne Woollums

Mark Wayne Woollums, 45 of Willis, passed away Friday, October 16, 2015.   He graduated  from  Floyd County High School , was a Boy Scout Leader for many years , attended Bible Holiness Church in Christiansburg and worked as a  sales clerk at School House Fabrics.
He is survived by his wife Glynda Akers Woollums; twin sons, Matthew Wayne Woollums and Ryan Lee Woollums; parents, Troy and Arnedia Woollums; mother-in-law, Lois Akers; sisters-in-law, Carolyn Akers , Joana Shelor & Jeff; niece, Anna Shelor; nephew, Aaron Shelor.
Funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Monday, October 19, 2015 at Maberry Funeral Home with Pastor Dwayne Martin officiating with interment to follow in the Reece Family Cemetery in Dugspur.  Family will receive friends from   5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Sunday, October 18, 2015 at Maberry Chapel.   Arrangements by Maberry Funeral Home.

Barbara Hubbard Kidd

Barbara Hubbard Kidd, 61, of Floyd, passed away Tuesday, October 13, 2015. She was preceded in death by her father Willie “Bud” Hubbard.
She loved her family and also her church family at ROWJ Ministries.
She is survived by her husband,  Kelly Kidd; mother, Hazel Hubbard Yeatts; sisters, Debbie Huff, Lois Hubbard; brother, David Hubbard (Gladys); sisters-in law, Mahala Haley, Barbara Kidd;brother-in-law, Lawrence Lee Kidd (Darlene);numerous nieces and nephews ;special friend, Brenda Goins.
Funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, October 16, 2015 at Maberry Funeral Home with Pastor Greg Poff officiating with interment in the Jacksonville Cemetery.  Family will receive friends 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Thursday, October 15, 2015 at Maberry Chapel.   Arrangements by Maberry Funeral Home.

Mary Christy East (Christy) Macaulay


Mary Christy East (Christy) Macaulay, 53, of Floyd, VA and formerly of Lake Monticello, died Friday, October 9 at Carilion New River Valley Hospital following an extended illness. She was predeceased by her father William David East. She is survived by her beloved daughter, Megan Ann Macaulay of Virginia Tech, mother and step father, Candace S. and Macon Sammons of Mt. Airy, NC., sister, Allison Leigh East; brother and sister-in-law, David and May East all of Charlottesville, VA., her  partner and caregiver, Adolph Turner of Floyd, as well as aunts, uncles, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Also surviving is her former husband and father of her daughter, Paul Macaulay of Charlottesville and a stepson, Dane Macaulay of Richmond, VA. Christy graduated from Floyd High School and attended Radford University before receiving her bachelor’s degree from Averett University. During her career, Christy worked in several fields including industrial sales, real estate and insurance, and lately she was employed by the Home Shopping Network. A memorial service will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, October 17, 2015 at the Maberry Funeral Home Chapel located at 367 South Locust Street, Floyd, VA with Pastor Stanley Hawkins officiating. Jerry Collins Nester



 Jerry Collins Nester, 86, of Willis, passed away Tuesday, October 7, 2015.

He is preceded in death by his wife Glenna Goad Nester and granddaughter Tangie Mitchell Thomas.

 He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Janice and Bobby Thomas; grandchildren, Chris Thomas, and Anthony & Tangela Thomas; great-grandchildren Paul, Alli, Bowin, Stephanie, and James; and great great-grandson Ethan; brother Coy Ishmael Nester; and sister & brother-in-law, Christine and Elmer Hanks.

  Funeral Services will be held on Friday, October 9, 2015, at 11:00 a.m. at Maberry Funeral Home with the Pastor Wesley Conner officiating. Interment will follow at the Greasy Creek Cemetery with Military Rites by the Hillsville VFW Grover King Post 1115. The family will receive friends on Thursday, October 8, 2015 from 6-8 p.m. with a Masonic Service by the Floyd Lodge #329, held at 7 p.m. at Maberry Funeral Home.
