Sarah Margurite Harris

 

Sarah Margurite Harris, 90 of Warrenton, VA., passed away with her family by her side on Saturday, October 29, 2022. She was born October 28, 1932 in Floyd, VA., to the late Rufus and Susanna DeHart Epperly.

She is preceded in death by daughter, Beverly Gail Harris; brothers, Alec Epperly, Ben Epperly, Clyde Epperly, Ray Epperly; sisters, Dessie Moricle, Frances Dellinger and Georgianna Harman.

Left to cherish her memory is her husband of 70 years, Russell M. Harris; son, Roderick R. Harris (Sherry); daughter, Shelley Ann Kapp; five grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.

Sarah (Margurite) worked at the Fairfax Hospital in Falls Church, VA., for many years before retiring to Warrenton, VA. She worked with Russell at his State Farm Agency. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She loved her family and was devoted to keeping in touch with extended family as well. She played golf up until before Covid and made many dear friends.

A graveside service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, November 2, 2022 at Topeco Cemetery with Pastor Ted Turner officiating.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the American Heart Association.

J. David Hatcher

 

J. David Hatcher, 85 of Indian Valley, passed peacefully from his earthly life on Monday, October 24, 2022. He is preceded in death by his parents, James & Dolly Hatcher.

David retired from Radford University. His 1979 Ford and 1966 pick-up were his pride and joy. He loved to hunt and fish. 

He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Genevieve Scaggs Hatcher; nephew, Glenn & Lynn Scaggs; special neighbors and friends, Jack & Alisha Akers; and numerous friends from cruise-in events.

Graveside services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, November 4, 2022 at Highland Memory Gardens with Rev. Richard Thomas officiating.

Glada Reed Luckadoo

 

Glada Reed Luckadoo, 86 of Christiansburg, passed away on Monday, October 24, 2022. She is preceded in death by her husband, Samuel E. Luckadoo; parents, Hubert & Velma Reed; daughter, Mildred Whitescarver; son, Benton McGuire; great-granddaughter, Sadie Culverhouse; sister, Inez Smith; brothers, Walter Reed, Major Reed, Donald Reed, Harvey Reed and an infant brother; and the father of her children, Kyle McGuire. 

She is survived by her children, Darrell McGuire, Ramona Richards (Kenny), and Joyce M. Bain; grandchildren, Jennifer McGuire, Janice McGuire, Mikey McGuire, Diana McGuire, Jessica Riddle, Hollie Bain, Dustin Bain, Brandon Bain, and Christy Richards; numerous great-grandchildren; brother, Denton Reed; and sister, Barbara Farmer (Dallas).

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, October 28, 2022 in the Maberry Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Jerry Sheppard and Pastor Jube Burke officiating. Interment will follow in the White Rock Cemetery. The family will receive friends from Noon until 2 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.

Terry Wayne Altice

Terry Wayne Altice, 69 of Rocky Mount, passed away on Tuesday, October 18, 2022. He is preceded in death by his parents, Clarence Everett & Carrie Young Altice; and sister, Rebecca Altice.

He is survived by his children, Westley Altice, Mark Altice, Sr. (Tanya), Rita Altice (David Montgomery), and Matthew Altice; grandchildren, Michael, Mark, Jr., Patrick, Alexandria, and Shelby Altice, Savannah Clemmer, Raylyn Holden, Zelena Montgomery, and Keegan Montgomery; brothers, Robert, Buster, and Richard Altice; and sisters, Bertha Lombardo, Patricia Neighbors, Vicky Hu, and Carol Floro.

There will not be a public service.

Rellis Myron Palmer


 

Rellis Myron Palmer, 72 of Floyd, passed away on Wednesday, October 12, 2022. He was a brick mason for at least 50 years. Rellis loved the outdoors. He was an avid fisherman and he also loved to hunt. Rellis was also quite the jokester.

He is survived by his wife of 21 years, Drema Palmer; son, Christopher Palmer; and special aunt, Thelma DeHaven. 

Rellis is dearly loved and will be greatly missed. 

A memorial service will be held at a later date.

Elizabeth Sue Hylton

Elizabeth Sue Hylton was born May 9, 1926 in Willis, VA to Zena Hattie Dickerson and Ethelbert E. Hylton. She was preceded in death by her parents and her four siblings, Clara Ercelle Hylton Simmonds, Virgil Dickerson Hylton, Claude Kavilla Hylton, Lester Dale Hylton and one nephew, Mark Douglas Hylton. She is survived by eleven nieces and nephews. Sue’s family was further extended to include great-nieces & nephews, and even some great-great nieces & nephews.

Sue lived and worked in Norfolk, VA all of her adult life. After she retired from an administrative position with the United States Navy, she continued to live in Norfolk until December of 2021. She then moved to Noble Senior Living in Louisa, VA where she passed away peacefully on October 9, 2022.

Sue Hylton was a much loved daughter, sister, and an adored aunt. Her sweet and gentle nature and her kind and loving heart placed her in the highest regard by all who met and knew her. Sue’s engaging smile, her contagious laughter, her sweet warmth, and her southern charm will certainly be missed. Our precious Aunt Tuey will forever be cherished by all those she leaves behind. May she rest in eternal love and peace with all those who have gone before.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 22, 2022 in the Maberry Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Roy Turpin officiating. Interment will follow in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.

Samuel Wayne Hancock

 

Our beloved husband, father, and grandfather, Samuel Wayne Hancock, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Tuesday, October 4, 2022 after a long battle with cancer.

Sam was born in Floyd County to Reginald & Sylvia Hancock on September 26, 1946. He is preceded in death by his parents; brother, Marvin Hancock; and sister, Joyce Duncan.

He is survived by his devoted wife of 56 years, Brenda Belcher Hancock; his loving children, Stephanie Link (Stephen), Tracy Hancock, Stephen Hancock; grandchildren, Chelseah Hylton, Dylan McDowell, Morganne McDowell, Hunter Earman, and Addison Hancock; nine great-grandchildren; and uncle, Sebert Rorrer (Jean). Sam is also survived by many cousins and sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law that will miss him dearly.

In his working years, Sam was the owner of Highland Hardwoods. He was a very talented woodworker and brilliant businessman. Sam was a Gideon and Deacon of Topeco Church of the Brethren for 51 years and served in many capacities in the church, teaching and singing in the choir. He had many dear friends and cherished his church family.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 8, 2022 at the Topeco Church of the Brethren with Pastor Ted Turner officiating. Interment will follow in the Topeco Cemetery. There will be no public visitation.

The family wishes to express appreciation to the community, our church family, and all of the caregivers for the many acts of kindness shown to our family during this time.
