Robert Lewis Vest, Sr.


Robert Lewis Vest, Sr., 73 of Floyd, passed away on Monday, November 29, 2021. He is preceded in death by his wife, Marlene Joy Vest.

He is survived by his sons & daughter-in-law, Robert Lewis Vest, Jr. “Bobby” & Stephanie Howery, Glen & Dawn Barber, J.R. Brewer, Shawn Brewer, and Scott Brewer; grandchildren, Taylor Yaunsem, Ben Vest, Rowdie Vest, Landon Vest, Taryn Brewer, Jaden Brewer, Jaxon Brewer, Rosln Brewer, Kira Brewer, and Jenna Brewer; great-granddaughter, Emerson Adkins; brothers, Ralph Vest, Elvin Vest, and Melvin Vest; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, December 3, 2021 in the Maberry Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Timothy Hale officiating. Interment will follow in the Wilson Cemetery with Military Rites by the Army National Guard. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. on Thursday, December 2, 2021 at the funeral home.

Marvin Kemp Nester


Marvin Kemp Nester, age 96, of Lakeland, Florida, passed away Saturday, November 20, 2021.

He was born in Berwind, West Virginia on October 28, 1925 and was the son of the late John Cloyd and Mary Ethel Nester.

Marvin had made his home in Lakeland for the past 37 years and was retired from Publix having worked as Assistant Production Manager for the Lakeland dairy manufacturing facility. He was a 1950 Dairy Science graduate of Virginia Tech and was awarded the Purple Heart for his service in the Army Air Corps during World War II. He loved his family and enjoyed fishing with his sons and grandchildren as well as yard work and gardening; including recognition as an award-winning grower of African Violets. He actively served his church and community and closely followed his Hokies. He was a member of the Shepherd Road Baptist Church in Mulberry, FL.

In addition to his parents, Marvin was preceded in death by his wife, Beulah Jessee Nester; his sister, Gladys Nester Agee; and three brothers: John Nester Jr, Howard Nester, and Dale Nester.

Survivors include: his wife of 33 years: Debra Godwin Nester of Lakeland; two sons: Edward Nester and wife, Elizabeth of Mineola, TX, Thomas Nester and wife, Constance of Big Canoe, GA; brother: Robert L. Nester of Fredericksburg, VA; sister-in-law: Gwen Cooke and husband, Dwayne of Bristol, VA; three grandchildren: Jonathan Nester and wife, Jennifer of Whidbey Island, WA; Cameron Nester of Denver, CO; and Kara Nester of Olympia, WA; great grandchild: Trinity Nester of Whidbey Island, WA; twenty-six nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, November 30, 2021 in the Maberry Funeral Home Chapel with Rev.Curtis E. Nester officiating. Interment will follow in the Jacksonville Cemetery. The family will receive friends from Noon until 2 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.

James Roy "Fuzzy" "Jimmy" Shelton

 

James Roy “Fuzzy” “Jimmy” Shelton, 60 of Floyd, passed away on Friday, November 19, 2021. He is preceded in death by his father, Roy Shelton; and brother, Gilbert Shelton.

He is survived by his mother, Jane Shelton; brother, Ronnie Shelton; sister, Peggy Shelton; special best friend, Harvie Parks, Jr.; and many other friends and relatives.

Graveside services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, November 21, 2021 in the Alderman Cemetery with Rev. Daniel Whitlock officiating. The family will receive friends from 1 until 2 p.m. in the Maberry Funeral Home Chapel.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to Floyd Moose Lodge #2300 c/o Doug Thompson,  444 Floyd Hwy S, Floyd, VA 24091, an organization that does a lot to help people in our community where he enjoyed going to and playing Bingo. Darell Paul Yoder

Darell Paul Yoder, 48 of Riner, passed away on Saturday, November 6, 2021. He is preceded in death by his father, Alvin D. Yoder.

He is survived by his wife, Audrey Mast Yoder; mother, Irene Miller Yoder; sons & daughter-in-law, Dylan Paul & Chassidy Elizabeth Yoder, Jamin Scott Yoder, and Quinton Darell Yoder; daughters & son-in-law, Danetta Sue Yoder, Jacinda Faye & Daniel Richard Mast, and Jennica Kathleen Yoder; two precious granddaughters, Emmie Louise Yoder and Kinslee Faye Mast; brothers & sisters-in-law, Daniel & Eunice Yoder, Darvin & Grace Yoder, and David Lee & Joy Yoder; sisters & brothers-in-law, Mary & Paul Lehman and Melissa & Michael Burke; father & mother-in-law, James & Eunice Mast; brothers-in-law & sisters-in-law, Timothy & Donna Mast, Mahlon & Twila Mast, Lloyd & Carol Mast, Brenda & Joe Miller, Lois & Tim Reinford, Charles & Sandra Mast, Andrew & Marcella Mast, Dori & Ray Miller, Jacob & Marcia Mast, Earl & Hazel Mast, Wilmer & Judith Mast, and Myrna & Kevin Miller; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Interment will follow in the Wills Ridge Mennonite Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2 p.m. until 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Wednesday, November 10, 2021 in the Wills Ridge Mennonite Church.

Bob Harris Simmons

 

Bob Harris Simmons, 77 of Floyd, passed away peacefully on Friday, November 5, 2021, after suffering many health issues.

Some folks gain their wings, but we are certain he is enjoying the banquet table first!

Bob is survived by his wife of 53 years, Jeanette. They were blessed with three daughters & sons-in-law, Karla & Clay Moran, Amy & Matt Graziani, and Megan & Jason Nichols. Also surviving are his eight treasured grandchildren, Zane and Luke Moran, Kayla, Conner, Callie, and Cara Graziani, and Paige and Leeah Nichols; his brother & sister-in-law, Jack and Donna Simmons; his “Conner Kin”; and many friends who enjoyed his sense of humor.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Percy and Geneva Simmons.

During his lifetime, Bob served in the Army Reserves, as a Deacon, and as a Gideon.

Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Tuesday, November 9, 2021 at the Topeco Church of the Brethren with Pastor Ted Turner and Pastor Mike Varner officiating. Interment will follow in the Topeco Cemetery. The family will receive friends from Noon until 2:30 p.m. prior to the service at the church.

Due to the pandemic, masks are appreciated. 

In lieu of flowers, a donation in his memory to Topeco Church or Gideons International Ministries will be appreciated.

Callie Belcher Snead


Callie Belcher Snead, 91 of Floyd, passed away on Thursday, November 4, 2021. She is preceded in death by her parents, George McKinley & Bertie West Hubbard; husbands, Samuel E. Belcher and Arton Perry Snead, Jr.; and siblings, Pauline Cruise, Christine Kirk, Ralph Hubbard, Dayton Hubbard, Bill Hubbard, Juel Sewell, and Louise Sewell.

She is survived by her children, Betty Lynn Epperly (Luin), Joey Snead, and Anthony Snead; grandchildren, Jay Kenneth Agnew, Jr. (Brenda), Shannon Agnew, and Abby Pritt (Fiancé Rusty Pritt); great-grandchildren, Trey Agnew, Jason Agnew, Callie Alls, Brantley Cox, Brysen Cox, Bennett Pritt, and Jasper Pritt; sisters, Hope Harris and Beatrice Stovall; and numerous nieces & nephews.

Graveside services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, November 8, 2021 in the Slate Mountain Cemetery with Pastor Jeff Dalton officiating.

Erkie Clyde Marshall


Erkie Clyde Marshall, 73 of Floyd, passed away on Saturday, October 30, 2021. He is preceded in death by his parents, Ennis Harvey & Mattie Huff Marshall; brothers, Arnold Wayne Marshall and Chester Marshall; and sisters, Lillian Gillespie and Lucille Jones.

He had a deep love for his grandchildren. He was a Vietnam Veteran and then owned a successful logging business.

He is survived by his children, Carl Marshall and Patty Gautier (David); granddaughter, Kayla Roark (Dustin); great-grandchildren, Hannah, Daniel, and Abel Roark; brothers & sisters-in-law, Charles & Margaret Marshall and Clinton & Jean Marshall; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, November 3, 2021 in the Maberry Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Hebron Quesenberry officiating. Interment will follow in the Marshall Cemetery with Military Rites by the Army National Guard. The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.
