Kyle Bowman


Kyle Bowman, 89, of Willis, went to his Heavenly Home on Tuesday November 25, 2014. Kyle retired from Fabric Cutters, Inc. in Floyd, VA. He is survived by his Loving wife of 40 years, Larrene Bowman; son and daughter-in-law, Jeff and Norris Phillips; grandchildren, Alexa and Cole Phillips; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Bennie and Margie Quesenberry, Danny and Gail Quesenberry, and Janice Quesenberry; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Funeral service will be held 12 noon on Saturday November 29, 2014 at the Mitchell Chapel Pentecostal Holiness Church with Pastor Jerry Blevins officiating. The interment will follow at the Indian Creek Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. to 12 noon at the church prior to the service. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to the Floyd County Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 257, Floyd, VA 24091.

Clarice Peters Cole

 Clarice Peters Cole, 92, of Pilot, went peacefully to her Heavenly Home on Sunday November 23, 2014. She was preceded in death by her parents, George J. and Allie Janney Peters; husband, Marvin L. Cole; two sons, Darry Lee and George Kyle Cole; siblings, Hobert, Maggie, Bernard, Hampton, Ibra, Herman, Vivian, Huie,
and her twin brother Harris.

 She Leaves to cherish her memory her daughter, Durene C. Cupp of Christiansburg; one grandson, Darren Keith and his wife Tammy and their four children; Joshua Dean, Cole Gabriel, Grace-Katherine Durene and Mason Kyle of Pilot. One granddaughter, Susan C. Dickerson; and her three children; Ashlynn Kemp, Kyle and Briar Dickerson of Check.

Clarice’s love for the Lord showed through in her daily life and her love for her family was her greatest joy.

 Funeral services will be conducted on Wednesday, November 26, 2014 at 11 a.m. at the Maberry Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor James Bradley officiating. Burial will follow in the Cole Family Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday, November 25, 2014 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Maberry Funeral Home.

Bessie Mae Cox





  Bessie Mae Hollandsworth Cox, 87, of Riner, passed away Friday, November 21, 2014. Bessie was born May 18, 1927, to the late Clive and Ruby Quesenberry Hollandsworth. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her brother; Herbert Hollandsworth; sisters, Ruth Gallimore and Majella Myers and two infant brothers.

  She is survived by her husband of 69 years, Bernard J. Cox; Children Brenda & Wayne Johnson, Sandra Rorrer, Donald & Debbie Cox, Wayne & Erma Cox; 14 Grandchildren including two special Granddaughters / Caregivers, Connie Crockett and Elizabeth Quick; 30 Great-grandchildren; 2 step-Grandchildren; 4 step-Great Grandchildren; Sisters June & William (Bill) Reynolds, Ardith Harris, Joyce & Donald Henley, and Joan Henley; Brothers Randolph & Edith Hollandsworth, and Larry & Sandra Hollandsworth; Many nieces and nephews and cousins; Special Caregivers Phyllis Donathan and Tara Smith.

  A special Thanks to Home Instead Senior Care, Intrepid Health Care Services, and Good Samaritan Hospice.

  Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, November 25, 2014 at the Valley View Primitive Baptist Church with Elder Raymond Goad, Elder Larry Hollandsworth, and Dr. Joel Burroughs officiating. Interment will follow in the Cox Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 12:00 – 2:00 p.m. prior to the service. Harold Melvin Turman


  Harold Melvin Turman, 89, of Willis a devoted and loving father and grandfather,  passed away Friday November 21, 2014. Harold was a member of The Willis United Methodist Church. He was a WWII  Veteran and very active in the V.F.W. Grover King Post 1115 of Hillsville, VA. He was a farmer for 65 years. He was preceded in death by his wife; Alta Turman, granddaughter; Allison Turman, brother; Cabble Turman, and sister; Fay Worrell.
   He is survived by son and daughter-in-law; Rudy and Patsy Turman, daughter and son-in-law; Judy and Terry Witt, brother; Connie Turman, granddaughters; Amanda Fenner and husband Keith, and Scarlett Turman. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday November 25, 2014 at the Maberry Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Darlene Marshall officiating. The Interment will follow at the Turman Cemetery with full Military Rites by V.F.W. Grover King Post 1115 of Hillsville, VA. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday November 24, 2014 at Maberry Funeral Home.

Dale Allen Bukkila


Dale Allan Bukkila, age 79, of Riner, VA died November 19, 2014. He was born June 5, 1935 in Brandon, MN to Emil Bernhard and Hilma Lydia Mattila Bukkila who preceded him in death.

  He is survived by his wife of fifty years, Iva Hylton Bukkila; his son; Eric A. Bukkila, brothers and their wives; Donald and Barbara Bukkila, Roger and Diane Bukkila, brothers-in-law and their wives, Donald and Brenda Hylton, Olen and Lavene Hylton, Wayne and Darlene Hylton, and several cousins, nieces and nephews.

  Thanks to those who cared for him during his illness: Drs. Reed Lambert, Bruce Farris and Belinda Zhang; caretaker; Loretta Callahan, special helpers; Joseph Rasschart and Ernie Stout and E.J. who provided joy.

  Funeral service will be held 2 p.m. on Monday November 24, 2014 at the Maberry Funeral Home Chapel with visitation one hour prior to the service with Rev. Clyde Hylton and Rev. Gerry Hylton officiating. The interment will follow at the Laurel Branch Cemetery.
