Billy Randall Richards


Billy Randall Richards, 80 of Check, passed away on Sunday, October 25, 2020.

He is survived by his wife, Joan K. Richards; son & daughter-in-law, Jeffrey T. & Karen Richards; daughters & son-in-law, Lisa Skrabacz and Michelle & Greg Witt; grandchildren, Hillary Jones (Colin), Zachary Skrabacz (Brooke), Jarrod Richards, Charity Richards, Adam Witt, and Griffin Witt; great-grandchildren, Maylene, Carys, Maeryn, and Tilly Jones; and sisters & brothers-in-law,  Joann & Richard Newman and Andrea Kay & Brian Wishneff.

As per Billy’s request, there will be no services. Donations in memory of Billy can be made to Plenty!, 192 Elephant Curve Rd., Floyd, VA 24091.

Sharon Lynn Kingery Lampey

 

Sharon Lynn Kingery Lampey, 65 of Floyd, went to be with the Lord on Friday, October 23, 2020 at New River Valley Medical Center. Sharon was born November 12, 1954 to Richard Kingery and Juanita Moore, who precede her in death. She was also preceded in death by her infant son; brother, Ricky Kingery; and step-brothers, Allen Moore and Wayne Moore.

She was a long time employee of Weiman Furniture in Christiansburg.

Left to cherish her memory are her husband, Robert Lampey; daughters & sons-in-law, Angela & Andy Smith, and Christy & Greg Brammer; bonus children, Teresa Lampey and Robby Lampey; grandchildren, Madison Smith, Drew Smith, Brandon Brammer, Ashley Lampey, and Dustin McPeak; siblings, Curtis Kingery (Fran), Debbie Whitaker (Mike), Tim Kingery (Phyllis), and Susan Moore; step-brothers, Robert Moore and Bobby Moore; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, October 26, 2020 in the Maberry Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Mike Bowman and Pastor Murray Agee officiating. Interment will follow in the Lampey Martin Spangler Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 10 – 11 a.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.

Masks are required inside of the funeral home for those wishing to attend services.

Ella Jane Bowen Altizer

 

Ella Jane Bowen Altizer, born on December 20, 1927, passed away October 9, 2020. She was the daughter of Thomas Davis and Dada Weeks.

She married George Altizer on July 22, 1944 in Floyd county. They had four children together: George, Roger, Connie, and Roy.

Jane had a strong christian faith. Throughout her life she attended church activities and supported a church in the community that she lived. They joined a new church First Baptist Church of Calvert County. As founding members of the church Jane and George dedicated themselves to the success of this church. George Altizer died in a logging accident in 1974. They shared 31 years of marriage together.

She worked at the A&P food store in Prince Frederick for 11 years. Jane then took a position at Baltimore Gas and Electric power plant for15 years.

In July of 1979 Jane married Mr. Joe. Aka. Malcom Joe Bowen. This marriage added to her family a daughter Betty and a son Tommy. She and Joe traveled extensively with friends Ernest and Violette Rowell. They were able to visit all the states in the North American Continent, many parks, monuments and parts of Canada. Jane especially enjoyed Alaska and the top of the world highway. She has traveled to the Bahamas, St Lucia and Mexico.

Throughout her life she has maintained and interest in sewing and crocheting. Her artistic talent was expressed in her work with textiles. Examples of her work has earned her multiple first place and grand prize recognition in the county fair. She is known for her expertise in quilt making. She has made several wedding dresses for grand daughters and friends.

She appreciates her christian family and pastors whom she was able to share her faith with. Jane is thankful to God for all her children, grand children, great grand children, relatives, friends and neighbors who helped her during her life.

Services were handled by Rausch Funeral Home in Port Republic, Maryland.

Linda Kaye Harris Pack


Linda Kaye Harris Pack, 71 of Floyd, passed away on Saturday, October 17, 2020. She is preceded in death by her parents, Brown & Lorene Harris.

She was a loving mother, memaw, and friend.

She is survived by her children, Kenny Pack (Meagan May), Kim Whitlock, and Kathy Smith (Mike); grandchildren, Robbie Whitlock (Mollie), Kayla Whitlock (Isaiah Griffith), Cody Smith, Brandon Smith, and Skylar Davis; great-grandchildren whom she loved and adored, Ridley Whitlock and Macklan Whitlock; grand-dog, Gracie; and special lifetime friend, Hilda Hall.

She retired after 29 years from Hanes Brand in Woolwine where she met her special friends, Teresa Clark, Amy Pendleton, and Dorinda Day.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, October 20, 2020 at the Maberry Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Roy Turpin officiating. Interment will follow in the Barringer Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. on Monday, October 19, 2020 at the funeral home.

Sylvia D. Duncan

 

Sylvia D. Duncan, of Floyd, was born on April 19, 1932. She is preceded in death by her husband of 40 years, Alpha Duncan. Sylvia was a life-ling Dairy Farmer and loving wife and mother. On October 17, 2020, Sylvia went Home to be with the Lord.

She is survived by her son, Michael A. Duncan; grandson, Michael N. Duncan and fiancée, Michelle Meadows; three great-grandchildren; two sisters, Ruth Dickerson and Irene Duncan; nieces and nephews, Andrea Burrell, Melodie Cox, Tammie Keith, Jennifer Boyd, Danny Quesenberry, and Rhonda Hollinshead as well as their spouses.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, October 19, 2020 at the Maberry Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Lynn Garrison officiating. Interment will follow in the Duncan Family Cemetery. The family will receive friends from Noon to 1:00 p.m. prior to the service.

The family would like to give special thanks to J.B. and Debbie Ayers who are close friends of the family and took special care of Sylvia when needed, as well as a special thanks to Good Samaritan Hospice for the extraordinary care given to Sylvia in her last days.

Flowers are appreciated, but a donation to a charity of your choice in her name will be acceptable.

Jesse Clarence Weddle

 

Jesse Clarence Weddle, 72 of Floyd, passed away on Monday, October 5, 2020 after a hard and difficult battle with cancer. Jesse was born October 18, 1947 to Levi Jesse and Virginia Davis Weddle. He was preceded in death by his parents and baby sister Geraldine.

JC is survived by his daughter, Julie Weddle; siblings, Leo Weddle, Ester Marshall, Dreama Flinchum, Posy Weddle (Rita), Larry Weddle; nephews and nieces, Danny Weddle, Michael Weddle, Sherman Weddle, Gary Howell, Wanda Howell and Mark Flinchum.

Left to cherish his memories include his caregivers, niece, Wanda Howell, Michelle Harris, and his brother, Posy who always made themselves available for JC’s care, anytime day or night. The family is grateful to his care team of devoted doctors at Wake Forest Baptist Hospital, Elkins Radiation Oncology group, Mt, Airy Hematology Oncology Center, and Heritage Hall Blacksburg who all provided loving care for JC. JC had wonderful and caring neighbors who would stop by to visit and bring meals. He truly enjoyed your company, as well as the care and compassion shown him.

A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, October 8, 2020 at the Topeco Cemetery with Pastor Joe Cox and Phillip Cox officiating.

Evena Bolt Sutphin

 

Evena Bolt Sutphin, 87 of Shawsville, passed away on Thursday, October 1, 2020. She is preceded in death by her husband, Glen Sutphin.

She is survived by sons & daughter-in-law, Sheryl & Dana Sutphin and Ricky Sutphin; daughter & son-in-law, Joyce & Joe Spangler; grandchildren, April Clark (Brad), Holly Gray (John), Adam Sutphin, Shelena Price (Danny), Derek Spangler, Jason Spangler (Amy),   Brienne Nida (Neal) Nida; 11 great-grandchildren; and brother & sister-in-law, Tony & Judy Bolt.

A private graveside service will be held.


Carole Faye Long



Carole Faye Long, 76 of Martinsville, passed away on Thursday, October 1, 2020. She is preceded in death by her first husband, Billy Jack Purvis; parents, William Herman Thomas & Beulah May Malone; daughters, Sonja Lavelle Purvis and Jackie Sue Purvis; and grandson, David Clifton Lindsey.

She is survived by her children, Angela Hollandsworth (Ricky), Raphine Pierce (Walt), Mark Purvis (Sarah), and Luke Purvis; a host of grandchildren and great-grandchildren; brother, David Thomas; and sister, Molly Bishop.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date.

Jimmy Lynn Radford

 

Jimmy Lynn Radford, 72 of Floyd, passed away on Monday, September 28, 2020. In his younger days he enjoyed traveling as a long haul truck driver.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Lorene & Jeff Radford; brother, Jeff Radford, Jr.; and niece, Cammie Zenor.

Left to cherish his memory are his son, Jimmy Wayne Radford; granddaughter, Brittney Lynn Sutphin; grandsons, Jeffrey Wayne & Troy Wayne Radford; great-granddaughter, McKenzie Paige Bailey;  brother, Harry Dean (Thannah); sisters, Betty Dickerson (Johnnie) and Judy Bell (Tommy); and a host of nieces and nephews.

Jimmy was a quiet, humble man that enjoyed the simple pleasures of life, riding the country roads of Floyd, listening to bluegrass music and sitting on the front porch looking at God’s beautiful creation.

To our dad, papa, brother, uncle, cousin and friend, you were dearly loved.

A private celebration of life will be held at a later date.
