Barbara Lynn Kromer Lovitt


Barbara Lynn Kromer Lovitt, 90 of Blacksburg, passed away Monday, January 29, 2018. She was preceded in death by her great-grandsons, Joshua Cantrell and Stephan Benjamin Schifferly; two brothers and three sisters; as well as her former husband, Louie Edgar Lovitt.



An avid reader and gardener, Barbara loved her family above all else.  She traveled abroad, moving her family with her through the many years of military service of her late husband.  She saw goodness in all who knew and loved her.  The family will hold visitation on Monday, February 5, 2018 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Maberry Funeral Home with a Celebration of her Life Service at 7:00 p.m. with Rev. Jeff Hudgins officiating.

She is survived by her sons & daughters, Louie Scott Lovitt (Isabel); Stephen Dale Lovitt (Bonnie); Susan Lovitt Keith (Larry); Saundra Lovitt Pratt (Joel); Sara Lovitt Woolson (Robert Wade).  She is also survived by one sister, Suzanne Kromer Zentmeyer of Colorado; nine grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.

David Wyatt Hollandsworth

David Wyatt Hollandsworth, age 74, passed away on Friday, January 26, 2018 with his family by his side.  He was born on November 17, 1943 in Indian Valley, VA.  He was a longtime resident of Northern Virginia, specifically Alexandria, Springfield, and Fredericksburg.

David served in the Army during the Vietnam War.  Upon returning from military duty, he resumed his career as an electrician, working for a major electrical company for 20 years as a member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW), Local 26.  After that, he opened his own electrical company, which he successfully ran for 25 years until his retirement.  In his limited spare time, he enjoyed playing golf, and spending time with his family.  He had a huge heart, and will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.  He loved his family and was extremely proud of his grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by parents Elmer & Verlie Hollandsworth, sister Opal Harris, and son Michael Hollandsworth.  He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Deborah Hollandsworth; son and daughter-in-law Matthew & Danielle Hollandsworth, grandchildren Julia, Kaylee, Brianna, and Mason; sisters Christine Hollins and Carol Miles; sisters-in-law Roxie (Ken) Taggart, Tammie (Joe) Saffa, brother-in-law David Lee Harris; daughter Angela (Jimmy) Clifton; grandsons Jacob Clifton and Kenneth Blake; great-grandson Tayhtum, and several nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held at Maberry Funeral Home, 367 South Locust Street, Floyd, VA  24091 on Tuesday, January 30, 2018 from 3:00pm to 7:00pm.  There will be a graveside service and interment for family only at the JC Slaughter Cemetery in Indian Valley, VA on Wednesday, January 31 at 12:00pm.  Flowers are appreciated, or a memorial donation can be made to the American Cancer Association, or the American Heart Association.

Robert "Robbie" Lee Long, Jr.


Robert "Robbie" Lee Long, Jr., 53 of Floyd, passed away Friday, January 26, 2018.  He was preceded in death by his father, Robert Lee Long, Sr. and his brother Keith Long.
Robbie was employed by Lawrence Transportation as a long distance driver traveling all over the U.S. He was also a life time member of the Floyd Fire Department, Station 1.  He was quick to help others and never met a stranger.  He enjoyed fast cars and racing and always marched to the beat of his own drum.  He will be missed by so many that will forever love and cherish the time that they spent together.
He is survived by his partner, Donna Chinault; mother, Shirley Page Long; son and daughter-in-law, David L. and Amanda Long; daughter, Louise “Nikki” Long; stepson, Rusty Gaspard; brother, Dana Long; sister, Charleen Rincon; grandchildren, Dakota Rain Yates, Gabriel Grayson Long & Kira; aunts, Linda Duncan (John Paul), Liz Patterson (James), Carol Page; sister-in-law, Carol Sue Long; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral service will be held at 7:00 p.m., Monday, January 29, 2018 at Maberry Funeral Home with Pastor Jeff Dalton officiating. Family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. prior to the service.

Curtis Lloyd Roop, Sr.


Curtis Lloyd Roop, Sr. of Wangle Junction, Floyd County passed away peacefully at home on January 22, 2018.  Curtis was born August 23, 1932 to the late Roy G. and Stella Akers Roop. He was preceded in death by his sister and brother-in-law, Carlene and Herbert Hollandsworth; brother, Carl “Shorty” Roop and infant brother Clinton.
Curtis proudly served his country during the Korean Conflict.  After being employed by Roanoke Electric Steel for 33 years, Curtis retired to his farm.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Lois Lester Roop; daughter, Wanda Martin; son, Lloyd Roop and his wife Cindy; three grandchildren who were the apple of his eye, Alexis (Sam) Groseclose, Holly (Mikey) Perdue, and Matthew Roop; four sisters, Cleo (Kelly) Cox, Claudine(Floyd) Pitts, Christine (Mike) McClaugherty, Cherrie (J.R.) Keen; two brothers, Cecil (Judy) Roop, Carmon (Anna Mae) Roop; sisters-in-law and brother-in-law, Corrine and Harlan Goad and Shirley Roop; numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, January 26, 2018 at Pleasant Valley Church of the Brethren with Pastor Roy Turpin officiating.  Interment in the Lindsey Lester Cemetery to follow with Military Rites by VFW Post 1184 and the Army National Guard.  Family will receive friends 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Thursday, January 25, 2018 at Maberry Funeral Home.

Alzora Huff Wood


Alzora Huff Wood, 90 of Floyd, passed away Sunday, January 21, 2018.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Alden H. Wood; son and daughter-in-law, Glenn A. and Peggy C. Wood; and seven siblings.

She retired from Donn Kenny Garment Factory and loved working at the Floyd Country Store (Friday Night Jamboree) until her death.  She was of vibrant character, embraced life, loved people and never met a stranger.  She expected the best from everyone and was helpful to those in need.

She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Joyce Wood and Donald R. Gardner; grandchildren, Ashlee Gardner, Adam (Carrie) Gardner, Darren (Emily) Wood; step-grandchildren, Chris (Theresa) Evans, Jonathan Evans; great-grandson, Nathaniel Jackson Gardner; sister-in-law, Lelia J. Huff; numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, January 23, 2018 at Maberry Funeral Home with Pastor Steve Johnson officiating with interment in the Jacksonville Cemetery.  Family will receive friends from Noon to 2:00 p.m. prior to the service.
