Walter Junior Turman

 


Walter J. Turman, 88, of Riner, passed away on Wednesday, July 27, 2022. He is preceded in death by his wife, Mary Spence Turman; parents, Jim and Annie Turman; son, Donnie Turman; brothers, Billy and Johnny Turman; and sister, Nancy Rader.

He is survived by his son, Kenneth Turman (Tammy Sheppard); grandchildren, Josh Graham, Jacob Turman, Kendra Turman and Justin Turman; great grandchildren, Preston, Maddie, Hunter and Caleb; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Martha and Billy Altizer; and numerous special nieces and nephews.  

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 30, 2022 in the Maberry Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Ted Farmer officiating. Interment will follow in the Willis Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.

Mike Keith


 

Mike Keith, 57 of Floyd, passed away on Tuesday, July 26, 2022. He is preceded in death by his father, Fredrick William Keith; brother, William Matthew Keith; special grandmother, Ocie B. Keith; and special aunt, Carol Setliff.

He is survived by his wife, Vicki Keith; mother, Margaret Keith; daughters and sons-in-law, Kerri Williams (Richard) and Karla Beth Rodgers (Shannon); grandchildren, Jarrett Williams (Hannah), Hallie Williams, Evie Williams, Maisie Rodgers and Tanner Rodgers; sister, Lisa Eanes (Darrell); nieces and nephews, Ethan Eanes (India), Maggie Eanes, Brandon Keith,and Callie Keith; one great nephew, Ezekiel Eanes; one great niece, Eliza Eanes on the way; uncle, Frank Keith; and his most loyal friend, Big Al.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, July 29, 2022 in the Maberry Funeral Home Chapel with Ricky Dishon officiating. Interment will follow in the Jacksonville Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 28, 2022 at Maberry Funeral Home.

Jimmy Dean Stepp, 49 of Floyd, passed away on Friday, July 22, 2022. He is preceded in death by his mother, Sandy Maynard.

He is survived by his wife, Amy U. Stepp; son, Jimmy Duncan Stepp; father, Elmer Gene Stepp; half-brother, Eugene Stepp; special friend, Scottie Chaffin; and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Lucille Montgomery Gallimore

 

Lucille Montgomery Gallimore, 78 of Indian Valley, passed away on Wednesday, July 20, 2022. She is preceded in death by her parents, Frank & Allie Montgomery; and 10 siblings.

She is survived by her husband, Ramsey Gallimore; sons & daughters-in-law, Jeffrey Wayne & Nancy Phillips Gallimore and Jonathan Lee & Heather Quesenberry Gallimore; daughter, Brenda Denise Gallimore; grandchildren, Joshua Gallimore, Sierra Gwynn (Brandon), Sheena Gallimore, and Gabriel Gallimore; brother & sister-in-law, Dorsie & Reba Montgomery; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, July 22, 2022 in the Maberry Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Randy St. Clair and Rev. Nathan Phillips officiating. Interment will follow in Captain George Quesenberry Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.

Billy Jack Neighbors, 32 of Copper Hill, passed away on Tuesday, July 5, 2022. He is preceded in death by his sister, Constance Vest; grandfathers, Delmar Strickler and Dennis Gibson; aunt, Linda Strickler; and uncle, Douglas Neighbors, Jr.

He is survived by his mother, Greta Cail; father, Bill Strickler; step-fathers, Jimmy Vest and Larry Cail; grandmothers, May Strickler and Loretta Gibson; special cousin & friend, Ashley Neighbors; nephews, John Hajek, Aiden Hajek, and Douglas Vest; niece, Breanna Huddleston; and close acquaintance, Brittany Whittle.

A celebration of life for Billy Jack will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 23, 2022 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, 474 Floyd Hwy N, Floyd, VA 24091.

Frances Ann Thompson, 85 of Willis, passed away on Friday, July 8, 2022. She is preceded in death by her husband, Forest Glen Thompson; son, Michael Jim Thompson; parents, Earl and Edna Sutphin; and 11 siblings.

 She is survived by her son, Steve Dale Thompson; daughter and son-in-law, Janey and Larry Price; daughter, Peggy Barbour; grandchildren, Michael Thompson, Christopher Thompson, Brandon Thompson, Randy Thompson and Bryan Price; six great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

 Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, July 12, 2022 at the Pineview Cemetery with Pastor Nathan Montgomery officiating. The family will receive friends from 9:00 a.m. until 10:00 a.m. prior to the service in the Maberry Funeral Home Chapel.

Reecy Lenard Harris

 

Reecy Lenard Harris, 92 of Roanoke, passed away on Friday, July 8, 2022. He is preceded in death by his wife, Peggy M. Harris; son, Michael Lenard Harris; parents, Reecy & Effie Harris; and siblings, Marie Myers, Irene Marshall, and Geneva Maxwell.

He is survived by his daughter & son-in-law, Peggy H. and Bruce Todaro; daughter-in-law, Jessica Harris; grandchildren, Quinn, Bailey, Reecio, Nicholas, Capri, and Michael Todaro, and Katie Harris; great-grandchild, Tate Todaro; sisters-in-law, Shelby Fortner and Nancy Peters; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, July 13, 2022 in the Maberry Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Robert Young officiating. Interment will follow in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery with Military Rites by the Seymour Johnson Air Force. The family will receive friends from Noon until 1 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.

Deanna Nichols Boswell

Deanna Nichols Boswell, 78 of Floyd, was born unto eternal life on Tuesday, January 4, 2022.

Deanna was born on January 21, 1943, in Washington D.C. and resided in Brookville, Maryland during her adolescence and teen years.  She attended high school at the Academy of The Holy Cross and graduated from Dunbarton College with a bachelor’s degree in 1965.

Deanna married, and shortly thereafter moved to Floyd County, Virginia, where she and her husband raised their family. She had an eye for interior decorating and enjoyed decorating the farmhouse where they resided.

Deanna possessed a love for all animals, but she had a special love for horses and riding.  She was an avid foxhunter in her youth.  She passed her love of horses and riding on to several of her children and grandchildren. 

Deanna was a lifelong artist and shared her talent by painting many portraits and landscapes.  She owned and operated Blacksburg Florist and her flair for floral design was evident in the many floral arrangements she created. She was also a legal assistant in both Floyd and Blacksburg for many years.  

Deanna was a devout Catholic. She was a founding member of All Saints Roman Catholic in Floyd, Virginia and was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Blacksburg.

Deanna is preceded in death by her parents, Daniel B. Nichols, Sr. and Dixie B. Nichols.  She is survived by her brothers, Daniel B. Nichols, Jr. and Dean B. Nichols; sons, Robert C. Boswell, Jr. (Kimberly), Edward P. Boswell (Coleen), William K. Boswell (Kelli), David B. Boswell (Christy), and James H. Boswell (Julie); daughters, Jessica L. Gallimore (Matthew), and Jacqueline D. Walker (Jonathan); grandchildren, Julianna Schultheis (Grant), Mitchell Boswell, Edward Boswell, Jr., Nicholas Boswell, Colin Boswell, Delaney Boswell, Hannah Boswell, Noah Boswell, Rebekah Gomez (Levi), Georgia Boswell, Jackson Boswell, Hunter Gallimore, Melanie Gallimore, Ayden Walker, Maverick Walker, and Natalie Walker; and great-grandchild, Natalia Rosalina “Rosie” Gomez.

A memorial mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, July 8, 2022 at the All Saints Roman Catholic Church in Floyd with a reception to follow. Inurnment will take place in Maryland at a later date.
