Curtis Lloyd Roop, Sr. of Wangle Junction, Floyd County
passed away peacefully at home on January 22, 2018. Curtis was born August 23, 1932 to the late
Roy G. and Stella Akers Roop. He was preceded in death by his sister and
brother-in-law, Carlene and Herbert Hollandsworth; brother, Carl “Shorty” Roop
and infant brother Clinton.
Curtis proudly served his country during the Korean Conflict. After being employed by Roanoke Electric Steel for 33 years, Curtis retired to his farm.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Lois Lester Roop; daughter, Wanda Martin; son, Lloyd Roop and his wife Cindy; three grandchildren who were the apple of his eye, Alexis (Sam) Groseclose, Holly (Mikey) Perdue, and Matthew Roop; four sisters, Cleo (Kelly) Cox, Claudine(Floyd) Pitts, Christine (Mike) McClaugherty, Cherrie (J.R.) Keen; two brothers, Cecil (Judy) Roop, Carmon (Anna Mae) Roop; sisters-in-law and brother-in-law, Corrine and Harlan Goad and Shirley Roop; numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, January 26, 2018 at Pleasant Valley Church of the Brethren with Pastor Roy Turpin officiating. Interment in the Lindsey Lester Cemetery to follow with Military Rites by VFW Post 1184 and the Army National Guard. Family will receive friends 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Thursday, January 25, 2018 at Maberry Funeral Home.
