Eunice
Spicer Dickerson, 61 of Floyd, peacefully went to be with the Lord from her
home surrounded by her loving family after fighting a peaceful battle with
cancer on Thursday, October 2, 2014. She is preceded in death by her parents,
Robert & Lois Spicer; sister, Mary Devota Spicer; son, Michael John
Dickerson; and father-in-law, Dexter Dickerson.
Eunice
taught 1st, 2nd, and 3rd grade for 22 years
with Floyd County Public Schools and was known as Mrs. D to her students. She
was a member and contributed a lot of work to the Retired Teachers Association
and the Homemaker’s Club. She enjoyed working with 4-H and the FCHS band. She was
a member of the Riner Grace Brethren Church. Eunice embraced everyone she met
and never knew a stranger. She loved spending time with family and
friends.
She is
survived by her husband, Julius A. Dickerson; daughters & son-in-law, Mary
Caitlin Dickerson, Leah Catherine Dickerson Andrews & Jacob Andrews;
sister, Bobby Cromer; sister-in-law & brother-in-law, Deronda & Clyde
Thomas; loving nieces, nephews, great-nieces & nephews, great great-nephews,
cousins, and a host of special friends.
Funeral
services will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, October 5, 2014 at the Floyd Baptist
Church with Pastor Kenny Farley, Pastor Dan Agee, and Pastor Bobby Sutphin officiating.
Interment will follow in the Jacksonville Cemetery. The family will receive
friends from 5 – 8 p.m. on Saturday, October 4, 2014 at the Maberry Funeral
Home Chapel.
