Eunice
Carlon Harris, age 89, of Floyd, was called peacefully to his heavenly home, on October
13, 2014. He looked forward to joining his wife of 60 years, Pattie D. Harris.
He was also preceded in death by his parents,
Martin and Zellie Harris; Siblings Cleve Harris, Reva Rierson, Elverna Sowers,
Elmond Harris, Melvin Harris, Walden “Sod” Harris, and Oscola Harris; Son-in-Law
Butch Tanner and special niece, Linda Gayle Sheppard.
Carlon
was a devout member of Topeco Church of the Brethren. He drove a truck for the
Hubbard Lumber Co. for 41 years. He was a NASCAR fan and enjoyed the races with
many of his friends. He had developed a love for Golf and enjoyed watching it
daily on TV. He was the happiest when surrounded by his family and when he was
able to walk his farm. He enjoyed raising cattle and especially enjoyed raising
crops to sell on the Market in Roanoke. He was a man with a quiet sense of
humor and especially enjoyed the company of “the Coffee Club” at Jim’s Grill
when he was able.
Carlon
is survived by his children, Katherine Tanner and Becky and Mike Cockram.
He was
extremely proud of his grandchildren, Michelle Lytton, Shalena Conner, Aleesha
Cockram, Shawn Tanner and Shane Tanner.
He adored
his great-grandchildren, Ashton Lytton, Carley Lytton, Baylee Conner, Bryce
Cockram, Blake Cockerham, Ashley T. Mathis, Caleb Tanner, Draper Tanner,
Triston Tanner, Courtney Tanner, and
great-great
grandson Remington Mathis.
He is also survived by a sister, Mildred
Hylton; Sisters-in-law Freeda Harris, Fern Harris, Iva Dell Harris;
Brothers-in-law Milton and Ethelene Duncan, and Covy Sowers; Several nieces and
nephews; and Special caregiver and friend, Larry Myers. A special thanks to
Gentiva and Good Samaritan Hospice for their excellent care of our Dad.
A
Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, October 16, 2014 at Topeco
Church of the Brethren with Pastor Mike Varner officiating. Interment to follow
at the Topeco Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 – 8 p.m.
Wednesday, October 15, 2014 at Maberry Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to
the Topeco Church of the Brethren Christian Pre-school at 3460 Floyd Hwy South,
Floyd, VA 24091, or to Good Samaritan Hospice, 2408 Electric Rd. Roanoke, VA
24018.
