Lexie Homer Robertson

Lexie Homer Robertson, 74 of Rural Retreat, formerly of Indian Valley, passed away Thursday, February 15, 2018.

He is survived by his brother, Dayton Hart Robertson; nephew Dayton Wayne Robertson; niece, Trudy May Riddle.

A Graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, February 19, 2018 at Green Layman Cemetery with Pastor Randall Sutphin officiating.

Dallas M. Shelton



Dallas M. Shelton went to be with the Lord Tuesday, February 13, 2018.  He was born March 24, 1926 .He served in World War II and was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church in Floyd.  He is preceded in death by his parents, Ruby & Ulysses Shelton; grandsons, Michael Shelton and Jason Hayes; sister, Annie Dickerson; brothers, Grover Shelton, Ray Shelton, Roy Lee Shelton and Harold Shelton.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Nelva F. Shelton; daughter, Diane Borzotra (Michael); sons, Garrett Shelton (Polly), David Shelton (Debbie); Sister, Faye Bolt; brother, Herbert Junior Shelton; granddaughter, Kristen Gladden (Tommy); grandsons, Joseph Shelton, Christopher Shelton, Shawn Borzotra; great-granddaughters, Brianna Shelton, Nevaeh Gladden; great-grandsons, Blake Shelton, Colby Shelton, Aidan Borzotra, Ryan Borzotra; many nieces and  nephews.
Funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, February 16, 2018 at Calvary Baptist Church with Pastor Dan Agee officiating. The Interment will follow at Captain George Quesenberry Cemetery.  Family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. prior to the service.

Eugene Arnold Hylton


Eugene Arnold Hylton, 86 of Floyd, went home to be with the Lord Tuesday, February 13, 2018.  He was preceded in death by his wife Marie Harmon Hylton.
He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Joyce H. and Allen Hessler; grandchildren, Michelle Weeks, Lisa (Steve) Whitfield, Jennifer Totty, Dawn Hessler, Charles Hessler; seven great-grandchildren; brothers and sisters-in-law, Alfred & Delores, Tommy & Geneva, Clinton & Roselyn, Harry & Merita; sister, Sylvia H. Boyd; aunt, Virginia Chatting, sisters-in-law, Alva Mae Harmon, Ruby Harmon, Reva Hylton; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, February 16, 2018 at Topeco Church of  the Brethren with Pastor Jason Pratt officiating.  Interment will follow at the Shelor Cemetery with Military Rites by Floyd VFW Post #7854, American Legion Post #127.  Family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Thursday, February 15, 2018 at Topeco Church of the Brethren.

Dorcas Bell Gallimore Kent



Dorcas Bell Gallimore Kent, 86 of Asheboro NC., formerly of Blacksburg, VA. passed away Thursday, November 30, 2017. She was the daughter of the late Payton and Maudie Phillips Gallimore. She was one of 12 siblings. Those preceded her in death including her parents were siblings, Edsel Avery Gallimore, Alfred Calvin Gallimore, Clarice June Gallimore.

She is survived by her children, Thomas Everett Kent IV, Teressa Kent Whitlock (Tess), William Timothy Kent (Tim); siblings, Elvie Gallimore Jones, Ruby Dallas Gallimore, Joyce Gallimore Pascoe, Julie Gallimore Crewey, Olaf Ellen Gallimore, Cappy Ray Gallimore, Linda Gallimore Smith, Janet Gallimore Webb; grandchildren, Logan Whitlock, Daniel Whitlock, Andrew Whitlock, Brandon Kent, and Laura Kent.

A memorial service will be held at noon on Saturday, May 19, 2018 at Beaver Creek Church of The Brethren with Pastor Marvin Wade officiating.

Kelly A. Kidd



Kelly Albert Kidd of Floyd, VA passed away February 1, 2018 at Twin County Hospital in Galax, VA.
He is survived by his brother, Lawrence Lee Kidd (Darlene) of Forest, VA; sister, Mahala Hailey of Amelia, VA; numerous nieces and nephews and many dear friends.
A Celebration of Life and reception will be held at 1:00 p.m., Sunday, March 18, 2018 at the Floyd Moose Lodge 2300.
We would like to thank the doctors and staff at Twin County Hospital for the professional and compassionate care we received during this most difficult time.

Barbara Lynn Kromer Lovitt


Barbara Lynn Kromer Lovitt, 90 of Blacksburg, passed away Monday, January 29, 2018. She was preceded in death by her great-grandsons, Joshua Cantrell and Stephan Benjamin Schifferly; two brothers and three sisters; as well as her former husband, Louie Edgar Lovitt.



An avid reader and gardener, Barbara loved her family above all else.  She traveled abroad, moving her family with her through the many years of military service of her late husband.  She saw goodness in all who knew and loved her.  The family will hold visitation on Monday, February 5, 2018 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Maberry Funeral Home with a Celebration of her Life Service at 7:00 p.m. with Rev. Jeff Hudgins officiating.

She is survived by her sons & daughters, Louie Scott Lovitt (Isabel); Stephen Dale Lovitt (Bonnie); Susan Lovitt Keith (Larry); Saundra Lovitt Pratt (Joel); Sara Lovitt Woolson (Robert Wade).  She is also survived by one sister, Suzanne Kromer Zentmeyer of Colorado; nine grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.
