Ileda “June” Staples, 89, of Willis, surrounded by her adoring family, joined her beloved husband, Jay Staples in her long-awaited home with her Lord and Savior on August 15, 2026. June was preceded in death by her parents, Jabe and Clara Hylton Turman; as well as six brothers and two sisters.

Over seventy years ago June pledged her love and devotion to her husband and only sparing partner, Jay. They built a life together with the utmost respect and support for the others’ interests, differences and passions. Years passed and children and grandchildren filled her heart and lap. It’s challenging to find a picture without one or more of her grandbabies gathered around her. After a day’s work she would faithfully make her rounds to see and hold her grandchildren.
Our family is overwhelmingly blessed to have a Matriarch with such a gentle spirit, endless compassion and unwavering selflessness. Her faithfulness to her family, friends and community was a beautiful example to all who were honored to call her Mama, Grandma, Sister or Friend.
June was a faithful member of Shady Grove Church where she served her Savior by gladly taking many who needed a ride to church and joyfully worshiped in the choir. Church is where she knew those she loved could find hope and peace through Jesus. Years working in sewing factories prepared her to share the love of Christ beyond her small but cherished community. Through her skill as a seamstress she provided over 11,000 dresses to little girls in Haiti praying they would know someone cared for them but more importantly they were loved by their Creator.
June sacrificially loved and valued her family, friends and all people, even the prickly ones, above herself and material possessions. Her greatest joy was to give and the only thing she ever asked from another was a hug. Grandma’s strength and grace was sewn into her every word as she gently prompted us all to be kind and keep the peace as she saw few situations were ever resolved with a fight.
A graveside service will be held at Noon on Friday, August 21, 2026 in the Turman-Cruise Cemetery, Dugspur with Pastor Randy Sutphin officiating. The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. until 11 a.m. on Friday, August 21, 2026 at Maberry Funeral Home Chapel.
We would like to express our heartfelt gratitude to all who
cared for Grandma through the tough times. Dr. Jared March, Dr. Jason Foerst,
Dr. Jonathan Massaro, Carmen Salmon PA, Carilion Home Care and Hospice, with a
special thanks to Lorraine, Kalayna, Samantha, Stefani, Diedra, Lindsay and
