Ada Ellen Lester Altizer

Ada Ellen Lester Altizer, 100 of Floyd County, went home on Tuesday, April 4, 2017 to be with her Lord and Savior and to reunite with her beloved husband Aaron and other family members who have gone on before.

Ada is survived by four daughters and sons-in-law; Ellen and Carlie Spence of Floyd, Chloe Bishop of Riner, Hattie Ethel and James Trail of Radford, Geneva and Allen Cox of Christiansburg; Six grandchildren & spouses, Stephen C. Spence, of Hendersonville, NC, Cindy B. & Gary Hylton of Floyd, VA, David & Sherry Trail of Radford, VA, Angelia C. & Steven Quickery of Myrtle Beach, SC, April C. & Stan Kegley of Cedar Point, NC and Allison C. & Scott Alderman of Durham, NC; eight great-grandchildren; Ariel H. & husband Chris Bethell, Ethan Trail, MacArthur Quickery, Payton Quickery, Kinsey Kegley, Seth Kegley, Drew Alderman, and Luke Alderman; one great-great grandson, Silas Bethell; numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends,  also her special four-legged friends “Babe” and “Spot”.
After accepting the Lord in September 1949, Ada has served as a Sunday School Teacher, Choir Leader and a faithful member of the White Rock Church of the Brethren, and as a Deaconess since 1951.  She loved the Lord, her family and neighbors.  In her later years, she spent her days reading her Holy Bible, worked tirelessly on quilting, knitting and other crafts.  She firmly believed that idle hands are the devil’s workshop, so she was constantly busy.
The family will receive friends at Maberry Funeral Home from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Friday, April 7, 2017 and for one-half hour prior to the 11:00 am service on Saturday, April 8, 2017 at the White Rock Church of the Brethren.  A celebration of Ada’s life will follow with Rev. Michael Pugh & Rev. David Trail officiating. Burial will be in the White Rock Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the White Rock Church of the Brethren Building Fund, c/o Gina W. Straub, Treasurer, 3038 Mud Pike, Christiansburg, VA 24073 or to Carilion Clinic Hospice c/o Renee Altizer, Mgr., Suite 110, 701 Randolph Street, Radford, VA 24141.
