Irma Jean Hanson,
age 88, of Floyd, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, June 20, 2015, at Lewis Gale Medical Center in Salem, VA. She was born on March 17, 1927 to the late
Lewis Jacob and Sophia Banks Stuart. She was preceded in death by her husband
of 34 years, James L. Walker and her husband of 9 years, Otis T. Hanson. In addition, she was preceded in death by 10
brothers, 7 sisters-in-law, and one sister.
Jean attended
school in Floyd, VA and was a homemaker, mother, and caregiver to her mother
and some of her brothers. She was an
inspiration to many and a mother to all. She enjoyed cooking and feeding everyone that
visited. Her zest for life was
contagious. At a very young age she developed a love and fascination for hats. In her free time she enjoyed sewing, quilting
and crocheting.
She accepted
Christ at a very young age at Chestnut Level Baptist Church, Floyd, VA (Head of
the River). Jean continued her Christian walk as a member of the Little
River Missionary Baptist Church, Floyd, VA where she remained a faithful and
devoted member until her passing. She
was the Mother of the Church, Deaconess, Church Clerk, Member of the Choir,
head of the Kitchen Committee, a member of the Willing Workers Club and many
other organizations.
She leaves to cherish her memories two sons
James David (Joyce) of Rocky Mt. , VA and Johnny C. (Melinda) Walker of Floyd,
VA, two daughters, K. Rosemary (Johannes) Hobson of Roanoke, VA and Carol J.
Walker of Mitchellville, MD ; five Grandchildren, Melanie Walker, Dionne
Calloway, James Walker, Jr., Daryl Walker and Eric Walker; six
Great-grandchildren; one sister, Kate M. Stuart and two sisters-in-law Julia
Stuart, Annie Mae Stuart; and a host of loving nieces, nephew and friends.
Funeral Services
will be conducted at the Maberry Funeral Home Chapel, Floyd, VA on Monday, June
29, 2015 with Dr. Clinton L. Crump officiating. The family will receive friends
from 11:00 am to 12:00 pm and home going services will follow at 12:00pm.
Interment will be at the Little River Cemetery.
