Verna
Conner Belcher, 94 of Floyd, passed away on Friday, October 31, 2014. She was
born in Floyd on October 20, 1920 to Walter T. Conner and Lillie M. Hubbard.
Heaven rejoiced as she entered the gates.
Verna
was a loving mother and grandmother who spent most of her time working in the
garden and preparing meals for her family. Verna had an unwavering faith in God
and was a dedicated member of the Skyline Pentecostal Holiness Church for many
years. The last few years of her life, she attended the Harris Chapel United
Methodist Church. Verna spent 42 years at the Floyd Garment factory as a
seamstress. Her greatest joy was her family. Verna was blessed with seven
children, sons & daughters-in-law, Clyde & Corine Belcher, Guy &
Beatrice Belcher, Leon & Shirley Belcher; daughters & sons-in-law, Neva
& James Church, Marie Montgomery, Judy & Jody Sparks; daughter-in-law,
Connie Belcher; 17 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; 14 great
great-grandchildren; as well as several nieces and nephews.
Verna is
preceded in death by her loving husband, John A. Belcher. She was also preceded
in death by her son, Elvin Belcher; son-in-law, Junior Montgomery; and three grandchildren,
Allen Montgomery, Teresa Ann Belcher, and Diana Belcher.
Funeral
services will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, November 3, 2014 at Slate Mountain
Presbyterian Church. Interment will follow in the Slate Mountain Cemetery. The family
will receive friends from 5 – 7 p.m. on Sunday, November 2, 2014 at the Maberry
Funeral Home Chapel.
