James R. Phillips


James R. Phillips, 82 of Woodlawn, passed away Monday, January 18, 2016.  He was preceded in death by his parents, Berlie & Verlie Phillips and his brother, Sheldon L. Phillips.

He is survived by his wife, Kathryn Viars Phillips; sons & daughter-in-law, Theron D. & Dana Phillips, James “Ronald” Phillips; daughter, Shelia K. Patrick; grandchildren, Ethen Kyle Phillips, Ian Shane Phillips & wife, Brooke; sister, Goldie Phillips Boyd; numerous nieces and nephews.

Graveside service will be held at 3:00 p.m., Thursday, January 21, 2016 at Indian Valley Pentecostal Holiness Church Cemetery.  Family will receive friends Noon to 2:00 p.m. at Maberry Funeral Home prior to the Graveside service.

Ivalene Huff Cox


Ivalene Huff Cox, 91, of Indian Valley, passed away Sunday, January 10, 2016.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Roy Allen Cox, son, Benny Thornton Cox, daughter, Kathy Dianne Cox Lawson, and son-in-law, Arnold Underwood.

She is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, Allen & Brenda Cox of Willis, Jesse & Regina Cox, Indian Valley; daughters & sons-in-law, Mary & Joe Boothe, Irene & Lee McPeak, Betty Cox; brothers & sister-in-law, Rollie & Velma Huff of Willis,  Erbie Huff of Indian Valley; sister & brother-in-law, Ledlie & Foster Quesenberry; ten grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren.

Funeral will be held at 2:00 p.m.,  Wednesday,  January 13, 2016 at Indian Valley Pentecostal Holiness Church with Pastor David Goad officiating with interment in Big Sand Cemetery.  Family will receive friends from  Noon to 2:00 p.m. prior to the service.

A special thank you to her dedicated caregiver and granddaughter Ashley Harmon.

Kathleen M. Slater

Kathleen M. Slater, 68 of Copper Hill, passed away Monday, January 11, 2016.  She was a devoted wife for 50 years to her husband Paul L. Slater, Jr. and loving mother to her children, William Slater, Wade Slater, Scott Slater, and Tammy Sue Link.  She was also a precious grandmother to her grandchildren, Samantha Slater, Caleb Slater, Krissy Slater, and Zack Slater and great-grandmother to Samuel Slater.
The family thanks everyone and ask that she be  kept in your thoughts  and  prayers.

Gilbert Lee Shelton

Gilbert Lee Shelton, 57, of Floyd, passed away, Sunday, January 10, 2016.  He was preceded in death by his father, Roy Lee Shelton. He was a member of the Floyd Moose Lodge 2300.

He is survived by his mother, Jane Sowers Shelton; sister, Peggy Shelton(Harvie Parks, Jr.); brothers, Ronnie D. Shelton, James Roy Shelton; daughter, Kayla Shelton; granddaughter, Braylee Mattingley; stepson, Bradley Hatcher; and  also his friends at the Floyd Moose Lodge.

Graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, January 15, 2016 at the Alderman Cemetery with Ronnie Sutphin officiating.  Family will receive friends at Maberry Funeral Home from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. prior to the service.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, 2840 Electric Road Suite 106A, Roanoke, VA 24018.

There will be a Memorial Service at the Floyd Moose Lodge 2300, 1:00 p.m., Sunday, January 17, 2016. Everyone is invited.

Elmer "Spud" Lane Webb




Elmer “Spud” Lane Webb of Roanoke, formerly of Floyd, Virginia passed away Friday, January 1, 2016 at the age of 97. 
  
Spud was a WWII combat veteran, and recipient of the Purple Heart. He retired from Halmode Apparel, after which he and his wife Treatise, returned to farm land originally purchased by his parents George C. Webb, Sr. and Elitha Brimm Webb in 1922.


He is preceded in death by his wife Treatise Webb, brothers Harry Webb, Early Webb, George C. Webb, Jr., and twin brother Delmer “Buster” Webb, as well as sisters, Odell Graham and Bertha Schoolcraft. He is survived by sisters, Claudine Browning (Joe) and Nettie W. Brown; sisters-in-law, Mavin Steele (Jack) and Coreen Martin;  brother-in-law, Arlie Thompson;  numerous nieces and nephews. Uncle Spud was like a second father to many of them. 

Funeral service will be held at 11:00am on Monday, January 4, 2016, at the Salem Primitive Baptist Church (Head of the River)  with Elder Larry Hollandsworth officiating. The interment will follow at Restvale Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 2:00-5:00pm on Sunday, January 3, 2016 at Maberry Funeral Home, Floyd VA.

Martha "Marty" Radford



Martha “Marty” Webb Radford, 72, of Floyd, passed away Thursday, December 31, 2015.  She had retired from Aerial October 2014.

 She is survived by her son, Harold Harman; daughters, Melissa Reed, Linda Radford; brother, Arvin Webb; sisters, Sue Thomas, Belle Hylton, and Vivian Hylton.
 Funeral service will be held at 12 noon, Saturday, January 2, 2016 at Maberry Funeral Home, with Pastor Jeff Dalton officiating. Interment will follow at the Maple Shade Cemetery. Family will receive friends from 10 a.m. to 12 noon, prior to the funeral service. Arrangements by Maberry Funeral Home.

Beulah Mae Walker Bolt



Beulah Mae Walker Bolt, 88 of Floyd, passed away Friday, December 11, 2015.  She was preceded in death by her husband Venson Bolt.

She is survived by her children, Mark Bolt and Rebekah Bolt; granddaughter, Nikki Bolt; sister, Eula W. Thompson; nieces, Gail Gibson and Diane Cheney; nephew, Wayne Thompson; special friend, Margaret Harris.

Funeral service will be held at 3:00 p.m., Sunday, December 13, 2015 at Topeco Church of the Brethren with Pastor Mike Varner, Pastor Roy Turpin and Rev. Vinton Quesenberry officiating with interment in the Topeco Cemetery.  Family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. prior to the service.

The family would like to say thank you to the many friends that visited and have expressed their love and concern for their mother.   They also want to thank Skyline Nursing & Rehab and Good Samaritan Hospice for the exceptional care they provided to her.
