Violet McPeak "Granny" Hubbard



Violet McPeak “Granny” Hubbard, age 96 of Floyd, departed this life for her heavenly home on Saturday, September 17, 2016 . She was born August 13, 1920, to the late Benjamin “Bennie” Harrison McPeak and Effie Boyd McPeak.

  She is survived by her son Jackie Wayne Hubbard; step-son Charles McCoy Hubbard; and six daughters India Mae Berkley, Mabel Delores Agee, Alreda and husband David Harvey, Geneva Huff, Sylvia and husband Frank Radozycki, and Frances Hollandsworth. A dedicated, caring, and loving mother and grandmother, she leaves behind her grandchildren, many great grandchildren, and great, great grandchildren. Also left to cherish her memory are three brothers Palmer, Ross, and Clifton McPeak.

  She was preceded in death by a beloved sister Lillian Mae “Katie” McPeak, three brothers Wiley, Wesley and Marvin McPeak, and an infant great grandson Joseph Harvey. Four hours after Granny’s passing, she lost a grandson Jerry Branscome.

  She was a long-time member of Skyline Pentecostal Holiness Church just off  the Blue Ridge Parkway in Meadows of Dan, VA.

  She was owner and manager of Tex’s Drive-In Restaurant in Floyd, VA for many years. The young people knew and respected her as “Granny”. She had a kind heart and was always willing to listen and many times giving them good sound advice.

  Funeral Services will be held 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, September 20, 2016  at Maberry Funeral Home with the Rev. Mac Cassell officiating. Interment will follow in the Jacksonville Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Monday, September 19, 2016 from 6-8 p.m. at Maberry Funeral Home.

Lois Sutphin Hancock





Lois Sutphin Hancock, 61 of Floyd, went to be with her Lord, Tuesday, September 6, 2016.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Dorothy Sutphin; husband, Marvin Hancock; brothers, Jack and Larry Sutphin.

Left to cherish her memory are her father, James Elmer Sutphin; daughter, Diane McMillian (Jerry); special grandchild, Jacob Davis McMillian; brother, James Edward Sutphin; sisters & brothers-in-law, Doris Weddle (Ronald), Geneva Hylton (Tommy), Teresa Harman (David), Carol Montaigne (Larry); mother-in-law, Sylvia Hancock;four nieces and four nephews.

Funeral Service will be held 1:00 p.m. Thursday, September 8, 2016 at Maberry Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Cecil Brown officiating. Family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow in the Alderman Cemetery. In lieu of Flowers Donation may be made to Maberry Funeral Home, Inc. for Lois Hancock.

Wanda B. Dickerson



Wanda B. Dickerson’s earthly journey ended peacefully Saturday, September 3, 2016. She was surrounded by her loved ones.

She was preceded in death by her husband of almost 62 years John Dickerson; parents, Evie and Roy Whitaker, son-in-law Early Alderman, and granddaughter, Angie Miller.
Wanda leaves behind her children and in-laws, Belinda Alderman, Nana and Iven Miller, Judy Dickerson, Wanda Mae and Vergil Hale, Richard and Deborah L. Dickerson, Deborah and Dale Elmore. Also Surviving are grandchildren Mickey and Anita Alderman, Barry Alderman, Angela Alderman, Teresa and Darren Penrose, April Gilbert, Robert and Stuart Reed, Kevin Long, Daniel Hale and Alaina Dickerson. She also had ten great grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews and many close friends, two special friends Trena and David Meador.
Wanda was a long time member of Pleasant Valley Church of the Brethren. She loved her church and her church family. She was small in stature but was a giant in faith and had the strength and courage of a lion.
The family would like to thank the staff of Skyline Nursing and Rehab, also Dr. Gary Kuiken and staff.
The family will be receiving visitors on Monday, September 5, 2016 at Maberry Funeral Home in Floyd between 5:00-7:00 p.m. Funeral services will be officiated by Pastor Roy Turpin on Tuesday, September 6, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. Services will be held at Pleasant Valley Church of the Brethren located at 3883 Alum Ridge Road NW, Floyd, Virginia. Interment will follow at the church cemetery.
