Rachel "Nadine" Akers

Rachel “Nadine” Boyd Phillips Akers, age 86, passed away Monday, May 26th, 2025 at her home in Radford. 

Nadine was born Feb. 23, 1939 in Loudoun County, Virginia to the late James “Colen” and Laura Franklin Boyd. In addition to her parents she is predeceased by her siblings, Harold Claude Boyd, James “Melvin” Boyd, Catherine “Darlene” Farmer and an infant sister, Josephine Belle Boyd.  

She leaves behind four daughters and their spouses: Debra and Don McAlexander, Donna and Clifford Shirah, Sharon and Tim Allen, and Connie Phillips; two grandchildren: Melissa Goodson (John), and Wayne Lucado, Jr.; three great-granddaughters: Chandra Black (Jacob), Olivia Vest (Ian), and Aleah Goodson; three great-great-grandchildren, Riley and Mackenzie Black, Noelle Vest; and ten nieces and nephews and their families.

Never judging and generous to a fault, Nadine will be missed by many. 

A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 29, 2025 in the Maberry Funeral Home Chapel, with the Rev. Jerry Sawyer officiating. The family will receive friends from Noon until 1:00 p.m. before the service at the funeral home.

A special thank you to her daughter Donna for her care of Mom the last couple of years. The family would also like to thank Mary Jane Dunford, Tammy Dalton and Jade Jones for their help and support during Mom’s last couple of months. And a special thank you to Kaitlyn from ACG Hospice for her compassion and support.
