Robert William James, 70 of Willis, passed away on Thursday, April 3, 2025. He is preceded in death by his father, William R. James; and brother, Steven W. James.
He served 30 years in the United States Navy with his last position being a Sonar Technician Master Chief Petty Officer. His primary specialties were combat systems senior enlisted, journeyman level acoustic analyst, intermediate acoustic analyst, and Navy recruiter canvasser. During his time in the military, he earned many decorations, medals, and ribbons including, the Southwest Asia Service Medal, Navy Commendation Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Navy Unit Commendation, Meritorious Unit Commendation, Destroyer Squadron 12 Letter of Commendation, Good Conduct Medal, Sea Service Deployment Ribbon, Battle “E” Award, USCG Meritorious Unit, Commendation Operation Device, Navy Achievement Medal, Kosovo Campaign Medal, and Humanitarian Service Medal.
After retirement from the Navy, he worked in a naval shipyard. When he met Tia, he was working in a small engine shop and completed his Bachelors in Psychology.
He is survived by his wife, Tia Roddey James; son, Johnathan James (Petra); daughters, Lisa Cintron (Steven), Tonya Cunningham (Aaron), and Megan Carr (Joshua); grandchildren, Kayleigh, Emily, Remington, and Theodore James, Jaden Cintron, Kaitlyn, Landon, and Harper Cunningham, and Caleb Carr and Ellie Carr; step-mother, Winifred V. VanHuizen; step-son, Richard Damien Ellis; brother, Bradford James; sister, Debra L. Georgeson (Clayton); beloved pet, Dusty James; and many nieces and nephews.
A celebration of life will be from 11:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 26, 2025 at the James Residence. Inurnment will be held at Southern Arizona Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Sierra Vista, AZ, at a later date.
