Hilda Bea Simpson Harmon, 94, of Floyd, passed away at her home on Sunday, December 1, 2024. She is preceded in death by her husband, James E. Harmon; and her parents, Willard and Garnett Simpson.
Hilda grew up in Check where her parents ran the general store and cannery. She worked in both. She married Jim in 1949 and they moved to Willis where Jim and his brother, Fred, ran the Gulf Station. Later, Jim and Hilda bought the general store in Willis and ran it until 1978. They sold the store and moved to Floyd. She loved reading and was very active in Friends of the Library. Her church, Floyd United Methodist Church, was an important part of her life. Her desire to go into nursing led her to Skyline Manor where she held the job of Activities Director and later was a CNA. She continued this last job into her 80’s. Her love of books led her to writing one of her own. The Little Girl Who Loved Names was published in 2024.
Hilda is survived by her children, Sunny and Bob Popp, Jamie and Debbie Harmon, Cappy and Tommy Spangler, and Jolee and John Crawford; her grandchildren who called her “Molly”, Angie and Tuff Nichols, Travis and Kristin Crawford, Katie Popp and Mike Disch, Amanda and Marc Hanna, Maggie Popp and Scooter Thweatt, Ben and Lindsay Johnson, Caleb and Rose Johnson, Nathan Popp, Conner Johnson, Jessica and Adam Stebar, Ashley and Chad Scott, Dakota and Tate Stinnett, Tucker and Nicole Crawford, and Austin and Katelyn Spangler; great-grandchildren, Shane and Mary, Shawn and Miah, Emma and Jesse, Dayson, Harmon, Alyssa, Kara, Karoline, Lemuel, Raina, Bjorn, Lars, Ace, Cecilia, Bea, Chloie, Sydney, Jemmasen, Layla, Emry, Penny, Hannah, Macy, Ellie, Bella, Aspen, Maren, Sage, Wilder, Hank, Carson, and Parker; great-great-grandchildren, Ivy and Stetson. She was also blessed with two special neighbors, Wanda Nolen and Beth Rhodes Turner.
Funeral services will be held at Noon on Saturday, December 7, 2024 in the Floyd United Methodist Church with Rev. Timothy Hale officiating. Interment will follow in the Restvale Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. until Noon prior to the service at the church.
