David Lynn Sowers, 64, of Floyd, went to his Heavenly Home on Friday, November 1, 2024. He is preceded in death by his father, Curtis B. Sowers; sister-in-law, Cathy Sowers; and father-in-law & mother-in-law, Arbie C. & Colene Q. Gallimore.
David attended Floyd County High School. He worked for Moog in Blacksburg for 43 years until his retirement in 2021. He was a wonderful and faithful husband, daddy, and papa, always putting their needs above his own. He was an avid hunter and enjoyed shooting sporting clays. No matter the weather, he would spend time walking and praying in the mornings on their property. David was always willing to lend a helping hand and was a patient teacher of life skills and anything having to do with sportsmanship. He would spend his vacation time taking his family to church camps multiple times a year. He faithfully attended Haven of Rest Bible Church in Galax.
He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Rhonda G. Sowers; mother, Wilma Corine Sowers; daughter & son-in-law, Tonya & Leroy Yoder; son & daughter-in-law, Brian & Breanna Sowers; grandchildren, Blake, Wyatt, Landon, Carter, Lottie, and David “Davey” Yoder (on the way); and brothers & sister-in-law, Rodney & Sharon Sowers and Wendell Sowers. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Jeanne Thompson “nanny” for her special care during his illness and Darlene Rice “head nurse” for all of her support and care.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday,
November 6, 2024 in Beaver Creek Church with Pastor David Spivey officiating.
