Carlie John Spence, 91, of Alum Ridge went to greet Our Lord
and Savior, Jesus Christ on Thursday, September 26, 2024. Carlie was born in
Floyd County and resided there most of his life. He served his country in the
Army as a tank driver during the Korean Conflict from 1953 until 1955.He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 68 years, Ellen
Altizer Spence; his parents, Charlie Spence and Essie Bea Spence Phillips; and
sister, Verlie Opal Spence Quesenberry White.
Remaining to cherish his memory are son, Stephen Spence
(Daniel Denslow); nieces and nephews, Joye Lester (Blake), Larry Quesenberry
(Betty), Cindy Bishop Hylton, Angelia Cox Quickery (Steven), April Cox Kegley
(Stan), and Allison Cox Alderman (Scott); cousins, Tommy Slaughter (Debbie),
Peggy Phillips Quesenberry (Joe), Dolly Phillips Conner, and Nancy Phillips Page;
brother-in-law, Allen Cox (Fern); and sister-in-law, Hattie Ethel Trail.
Carlie was a man of deep faith and was a Deacon of White
Rock Church of the Brethren. He retired from Lynchburg Foundry where he was a
molder and later a crane operator. He was loved and respected by all who knew
him and he will be greatly missed, both in the community as well as in his
church family.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, October
4, 2024 in the Maberry Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Michael Pugh
officiating. Interment will follow in the White Rock Cemetery with Military Rites by the Army National Guard. The family will
receive friends from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. prior to the service at the
funeral home. Pallbearers will be Daniel Denslow, Nancy Page, Foster Bond, Coby
Farmer, Blake Lester and Jason West.
