Shirley Bell Hoffrage

(November 24, 1945 - October 26, 2024) 

Shirley B. Hoffrage passed away on the morning of October 26th, 2024. 

Shirley, lovingly referred as Precious, is survived by her husband of 36 years Arthur Hoffrage. She is also survived by her son, David Maddox; two grandchildren; and multiple great grandchildren spanning 5 generations.

Visitation and Services for Shirley were held on Wednesday October 30th, 2024, at Colonial Funeral Home of Leesburg. Interment will take place at 11:00 a.m. on November 1, 2024 in the Jacksonville Cemetery in Floyd, VA.

In Lieu of flowers, family is requesting donations be made in Shirley’s name to Virginia Cancer Specialists located at 4660 Kenmore Ave suite 1018 Alexandria VA, 22304.

Zeke T. Jarvis


 

Zeke T. Jarvis, 82 of Floyd, passed away on Tuesday, October 29, 2024. He is preceded in death by his parents, Jessie and Mammie Jarvis; and sister-in-law, Linda Woods. 

He is survived by his loving wife of 35 years, Joyce Woods Jarvis; brother, Mike Jarvis; sister-in-law, Joan Kenley; brothers-in-law, Henderson Woods (Beva), Robert Woods, and Garland Woods (Pilar); and numerous nieces and nephews.

Zeke loved bluegrass music and played the guitar and mandolin for many years. He also loved gardening and his work as a finish carpenter.

A Graveside Service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, November 4, 2024 in the Jacksonville Cemetery with Pastor Stephen L. Lackey officiating and Military Rites by The Army National Guard. The family will receive friends from Noon until 1 p.m. prior to the service at the cemetery.

Carol Lee Ricker Beechler


 

At sunrise on October 25, 2024 our beloved mom, Carol Lee Ricker Beechler, left this world and joined our dad in the kingdom of Heaven. Born on December 21, 1937 in Detroit, MI, she lived in the area until moving with her parents and sister (Jackie) to Fresno, CA in 1939. In 1948 her family moved back to St. Johns, MI and welcomed little brother (Jon) to the fold in 1949. High School/College sweethearts (RDW High School/University of Michigan) onward, mom and dad married in 1958 (Ft. Benning, GA) before shipping off to Germany with the US Army (1957-1959). While there, mom met and shook hands with Pfc Elvis Presley, (US Army). This remained one of her fondest memories of all time.

After returning to the US in 1959 mom and dad settled in St. Johns, MI to raise their growing family. In 1971 they moved to Virginia (Christiansburg) with Federal Mogul Corp (dad) and mom began her career, 1st as a court reporter, then as the Montgomery Co VA Circuit Court Deputy Clerk until her retirement in 2000. That same year mom and dad built their dream house in Floyd Co, VA where they happily lived for the remainder of their lives.

After a long and courageous battle with Alzheimers mom gained her wings, riding upon the glorious crescent moon sent by God to her heavenly home. She will be missed by so many but not forgotten. We love you mom.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Thomas W. Beechler; parents, Lilyan and Joseph Ricker; sister-in-law, Lisa Harlow Ricker; brothers-in-law, Sam Dollar, Ron Cobb and Wendell Workman; and niece, Linda Dollar Frost.

Carol is survived by her children, Robin (Steve) Ball, Scott (Karen) Beechler, Rhonda Beechler Link; siblings, Jacquelin Dollar and Jon Ricker; sisters-in-law, Jan Beechler Workman and Chris Beechler Cobb; grandchildren, Shelli (Andy) Sayers, SFC Thomas(Jennifer) Stevens, Matthew Beechler, Karli Beechler, Joseph (Jenna) Link Samantha Link, Hannah Link, Steven (Rikki) Ball; great-grandchildren, Lilyan Sayers, Virginia Sayers, Cash Stevens, Zelma Stevens, Harlo Stevens Corinne Link; and nieces and nephews, John Daine) Dollar, Laura (Mark) Sarno, Kelley Frost, Patrick Frost, Grace Frost, Corbin (Jacqueline) Ricker, Collin Ricker, Vivian Ricker, Valerie Ricker, Jody Motz, Susy Workman, Jeff Workman. She is also survived by very special family and friends, Helen Ball Harris, Anthony Ball, Tammy Cox, John Beechler, Jamie Dowdy, Jo Wakefield and her constant and loving companion dog Marshall.

Special thanks to the extraordinary Carilion Hospice Team who cared for our mom with such care, compassion, love and dignity.

A memorial service will be held for our mom and dad in the spring of 2025.

David Lee Gautier, Jr.

 

David Lee Gautier, Jr., 57 of Radford, passed away on Thursday, October 24, 2024. He is preceded in death by his parents, David, Sr. & Phyllis Collins Gautier; and brother, Timmy Gautier.

David was a loving dad who enjoyed spending time with his daughter, special pawpaw, and a wonderful and thoughtful big brother. He was employed for many years by Radford University, including during his six year battle with cancer. He was a member of Fairlawn Church of God. He loved to shop for shoes, had a great love for animals, and loved helping others raise chickens and later had his own. David never met a stranger.

He is survived by his wife of 29 years, Patty Marshall Gautier; daughter & son-in-law, Kayla Marie & Dustin Roark; grandchildren, Hannah Roark, Daniel Roark, and Able Roark; sisters, Missy King and Pam Gautier; sister-in-law, Melissa Gautier; special aunt, Phyllis Collins who was like a second mom to him; nephews, Tim “Bo” Gautier, Cody Loan, and Lucas King; and nieces, Shannon Viers (Billy), Carol Jones, and Katie Gautier.

Funeral services will be held at Noon on Monday, October 28, 2024 in the Maberry Funeral Home Chapel with Simon Jones officiating. Interment will follow in the Marshall Cemetery.  The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. until Noon prior to the service at the funeral home.

Daryl Scott Barker


 

Daryl Scott Barker, 50 of Floyd, VA, passed away on Monday, October 21, 2024 at his home. He was born in Hampton, VA, on April 26, 1974. He is preceded in death by his beloved dogs, Durbin, Stumpy, Manaka, Lucy and Newton. 

He is survived by his loving wife, Susanna Smith; parents, John and Barbara Barker; brother, Christopher Barker; step-sons, Ryan and Forrest Jacobs; mother-in-law, Jacquelyn W. Frith; father-in-law, T. Michael Smith; animals, Nala, Chanel and Effie; and countless other family and friends. 

Daryl graduated from Christiansburg High School in 1992. He married Susanna Smith on October 9, 2010 in Floyd, VA. He was a self-employed master electrician. For the last five years Daryl worked tirelessly on building his and Susanna’s forever home. Everyone marvels at this beautiful house, the result of his immense talent. 

A Celebration of Life will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 27, 2024 in the Maberry Funeral Home Chapel, with Katherine Chantal officiating. The family will receive friends from 2:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. prior to the Celebration of Life at the funeral home.

James Wilson Turner

 

James Wilson Turner, 77 of Floyd, passed away on Friday, October 18, 2024. He was born on May 8, 1947 to Hampton Jeff Turner, Sr. & Arlene Radford Turner, whom precede him in death.

He married the love of his life, Marcia, and together they raised two outgoing, strong-willed daughters. They had their hands full with three adventurous grandchildren, whom he loved very much. James’ favorite place was his beloved summer cabin. He worked for Hercules for several years before starting his own trucking company, James Turner Trucking, where he hauled for many companies for approximately 20 years.

He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Marcia Conner Turner; daughters, Angie Turman and Monica Turner; grandchildren, Haley Turman, Briana Turman, and Parker Turman; brother, Hampton “Junior” Jeff Turner, Jr.; special cousin, Tyler Turner; and special friends, Tom Maynor, and Brian Turman.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, October 22, 2024 in the Maberry Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Roy Turpin and Pastor Terry Semones officiating. Interment will follow in Jacksonville Cemetery.  The family will receive friends from 1 p.m. until 2 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.

Gerald Wayne Moles


 

Gerald Wayne Moles, 65 of Laurel Fork, peacefully passed away at his home on Wednesday, October 16, 2024. He is preceded in death by his parents, Ollie & Betty Moles; son, Jeremy Moles; and brother, Steve Moles.

Gerald was known for his friendly demeanor and great sense of humor, which endeared him to many. In previous years, Gerald worked alongside his father in lawn care and tree trimming, a career that brought him much fulfillment. He was passionate about classic cars, often attending car shows where he shared his love with fellow enthusiasts. Above all, Gerald cherished the time spent with his family and friends.

He is survived by his wife, Pat Moles; children, Jessica Hash (Zack Lineback), Michelle Quesenberry (Barry Moore, Jr.), and Jeremy Dalton (Hope Smith); grandchildren, Brandon Williams, Brooklyn Owens (Shane), Taylor Lyons, Calli Hash, Westen Hash, Josey Dalton, Justice Dalton, Tristan Lineback, and Kendyn Smith; great-grandchildren, Caroline Owens and Shealon Williams; siblings, Kathy Moles and Tommy Moles (Crystal); and many special nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles. 

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, October 18, 2024 in the Maberry Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Howard Nester officiating. Interment will follow in the Alderman Cemetery.  The family will receive friends from 12:30 p.m. until 2 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.

Isaac Everett Holden


 

Isaac Everett Holden, 75 of Floyd, passed away on Saturday, October 12, 2024. He is preceded in death by his parents, Nathan and Annie Holden; and nephew, Lucas Holden. 

He is survived by his life partner, Gail Hoback; children, Whitney Hoback (Nick) and Brian Hoback; granddaughter, Hayleigh; brothers and sisters-in-law, J.C. Holden (Carolyn), Elwood Holden (Cathy), Larry Holden and Milton Holden; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A Graveside Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, October 15, 2024 in the Holden Family Cemetery on Walnut Knob in Floyd, VA, with Stephen “Kooter” Conner officiating.

Dale Alan Goad


 

Dale Alan Goad, 62 of Floyd, Virginia, went home peacefully to be with his Heavenly Father on October 5, 2024, after a long illness. 

He is preceded in death by his mother, Mildred Burnette Goad.

He is survived by his daughter, Elizabeth Tyler (Walker); granddaughter, Fern Tyler; father, James B Goad; sister, Judy Cain (Donald); and nieces, Emily Cain (fiancé Sean) and Rebecca Amado (Adam). 

Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday, October 9, 2024 in the Maberry Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Michael Bowman officiating. Interment will follow in the Topeco Cemetery.  The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Geneva Faye Shepherd

Our dear mother, Geneva Faye Shepherd, sadly passed away on October 4, 2024, at the age of 64. She was a loving mother, grandmother, sister, daughter, and friend to many.

She is preceded in death by her father, Myron John Boyd, Sr.

She leaves behind her mother, Annie Boyd; nine sisters and brothers, David Boyd, Eddie Boyd (Stephanie), Johnnie Boyd (Sherri), Melvin Boyd, Richard Boyd (Darlene), Barbara Stanley (Curtis), Connie Harvey (Danny), Bonnie Boyd (Dale), Phyllis Boyd Montgomery; sons, Christopher Thompson (Rebecca), Brandon Thompson, and Randy Thompson; grandchildren, Laura, Elizabeth, Noah, Phoenix, and Maddox Thompson; numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews; and six beloved pets, her dogs, Emma, Molly, Nala, and her cats, Bailey, Earl, and Lacey. 

She loved her three sons with all of her heart and worked hard her whole life to help provide for them. She worked at Magnolia Manufacturing Company and then at Gatorade for almost 20 years, where she made many special friends.  She was a person of great humor, loved laughing, and to make others laugh.

She loved all of her precious grandchildren, who brought much joy to her life and called her Nana.  She spent many special moments with her granddaughter, Laura. The two of them shared a special bond that shall never be broken.

She attended Green Mountain Baptist Church, where her faith was strengthened in her Lord Jesus Christ.  There is complete peace in knowing that she is now healed and with her Lord and Savior.

Funeral services will be held at Noon on Thursday, October 10, 2024 at Green Mountain Baptist Church with Pastor Howard Nester officiating. Interment will follow in the Lewis Cemetery, State Shed Rd, Vesta, VA 24120. The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. until Noon prior to the service at the church.

Edna Aldridge Perdue, 86 of Check, passed away on Friday, October 4, 2024. She is preceded in death by her parents, Garland & Lavada Aldridge; husband, Harry Lee Perdue; and sons, Robert “Bobby” Perdue and Howard “Wesley” Perdue.

She is survived by her daughters & son-in-law, Sandra Perdue of Reidsville, NC and Nancy & Larry McCormick of Hillsville; daughters-in-law, Dinah Perdue of Radford and Aimee & Dean Cox of Goodview; grandchildren, Brian Perdue, Kari & Austin McCoy, Kimberly Perdue, Michaela & Ethan Huff, Joseph & Anna McCormick, Nathaniel & Cindy McCormick; great-grandchildren, Natalie Tessar, Brea Tessar, Lydia Huff, Elsie Huff, Parker McCormick, and Colt McCoy; brother & sister-in-law, Eugene & Joyce Aldridge; and sister, Linda Haney.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, October 8, 2024 in the Maberry Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Darren Landon officiating. Interment will follow in Restvale Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.

Robert Marion Stull

 

Robert Marion Stull, 77 of Riner, passed away on Wednesday, October 2, 2024. He is preceded in death by his father, Lama Stull; mother, Madeline Hall; son, Adam Stull; and brother, Harold Stull.

Robert’s pride and joy were his children and grandchildren. He was a graduate of Emory & Henry College and proudly served two years in AmeriCorps Vista. He enjoyed reading on his kindle and collecting vintage radios. He was a dedicated member of Beaver Creek Church and loved driving the church bus.

He is survived by his wife of 52 1/2 years, Patsy Bowyer Stull; sons and daughters-in-law, Andy and Lisa Stull and John and Teanna Stull; grandchildren, Jacob Stull (Grace Turman), Christopher Stull (Riley Huff), Jameson Stull, and Ava Stull; bonus grandchildren, Jacob Smith, Brandon Smith, and Suzanne Smith; brothers, Richard Stull and Roy Stull; sisters, Peggy Kisner and Connie Trace; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 6, 2024 at Beaver Creek Church with Pastor Marvin Wade, Pastor Richard Thomas, and Tim Turpin officiating. Interment will follow in Beaver Creek Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:30 p.m. until 3 p.m. prior to the service at the church.

Carlie John Spence


 Carlie John Spence, 91, of Alum Ridge went to greet Our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on Thursday, September 26, 2024. Carlie was born in Floyd County and resided there most of his life. He served his country in the Army as a tank driver during the Korean Conflict from 1953 until 1955.

He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 68 years, Ellen Altizer Spence; his parents, Charlie Spence and Essie Bea Spence Phillips; and sister, Verlie Opal Spence Quesenberry White.

 Remaining to cherish his memory are son, Stephen Spence (Daniel Denslow); nieces and nephews, Joye Lester (Blake), Larry Quesenberry (Betty), Cindy Bishop Hylton, Angelia Cox Quickery (Steven), April Cox Kegley (Stan), and Allison Cox Alderman (Scott); cousins, Tommy Slaughter (Debbie), Peggy Phillips Quesenberry (Joe), Dolly Phillips Conner, and Nancy Phillips Page; brother-in-law, Allen Cox (Fern); and sister-in-law, Hattie Ethel Trail.

 Carlie was a man of deep faith and was a Deacon of White Rock Church of the Brethren. He retired from Lynchburg Foundry where he was a molder and later a crane operator. He was loved and respected by all who knew him and he will be greatly missed, both in the community as well as in his church family.

 Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, October 4, 2024 in the Maberry Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Michael Pugh officiating. Interment will follow in the White Rock Cemetery with Military Rites by the Army National Guard. The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. prior to the service at the funeral home. Pallbearers will be Daniel Denslow, Nancy Page, Foster Bond, Coby Farmer, Blake Lester and Jason West.
