Katie
Mae Stuart, 90 of Copper Hill, went Home to be with the Lord on Monday, March
4, 2019 in Garner, North Carolina. She was born on January 9, 1929 to the late
Lewis Jacob and Sophia Banks Stuart. She is preceded in death by her husband of
48 years, Matthew A. Stuart who passed away on December 7, 1994; two sons, Paul
A. Stuart and Mark A. Stuart (infant); ten brothers; and two sisters, including
her beloved sister, Irma Jean Walker Hanson.
She
enjoyed trying new recipes, reading, and gardening. She will be remembered for
her sense of humor. She attended Harris-Hart School.
Katie
joined Little River Missionary Baptist Church at age 13, a church family which
she loved, serving in many capacities including Senior Choir, Board of
Trustees, Treasurer of the Building Fund, and the Willing Workers Club. She
often referred to Little River Missionary as “the bridge that brought her over.” She remained an active member
until her health no longer permitted and relocated to North Carolina with her
daughter and son-in-law.
She
leaves behind a devoted daughter, Jill Stuart Hill (Andrew, Jr.) of Garner, NC;
three grandchildren, Kevin L. Stuart of Roanoke, Andrew J. Hill, III of Durham,
NC, and Brittany R. Hill of Charlotte, NC; great-grandson, Kevin, Jr. of
Roanoke; sister-in-law, Annie Mae Stuart of Washington, D.C.; and many loving
nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Funeral
service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, March 11, 2019 at the Maberry
Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Dr. Clinton Crump officiating. Interment will be
held in the Stuart Family Cemetery with repass to follow at Little River
Missionary Baptist Church. The family will receive friends for one hour prior
to the service.
