Donna Marie Reed Johnson


 

Donna Marie Reed Johnson, 79 of Floyd, passed away on Saturday, September 14, 2024. She is preceded in death by her first husband and father of her children, Wayne C. Lemon; her second husband, Don Johnson; parents, Rev. Douglas E. and Twila A. Reed; daughter, Dana Danis; son, Jim Lemon; and brother, Rodney Reed.

Donna was a charter member of the Floyd Rescue Squad with 50 years of service. She was a training officer for the rescue squad for many years. Donna was in Civil Air Patrol and worked with Search and Rescue. She worked with the American Red Cross teaching CPR classes. Donna was a graduate of Radford University with a teaching degree and taught in Floyd County at Floyd, Indian Valley and Check Elementary Schools from 1967 – 1984. She was a member of the Retired Teachers Association.

She is survived by her son, John Lemon; grandchildren, Russell Danis, Jr., Natasha Leonard (Charles), Michelle Danis, and Ayla Lemon; great grandchildren, Josiah and Lilly Leonard; brother, Robert Reed (Debbie); and son-in-law, Russell Danis.

 A memorial service will be scheduled at a later date.

Ritivo Paul Simpkins

 

Ritivo “Paul” Simpkins, 86 of Floyd, went home peacefully to be with his Heavenly Father on Friday, September 27, 2024. Paul was born on February 11, 1938 to the late Orville and Arnie Simpkins. He is preceded in death by his wife of 66 years, Marie Simpkins; son, Kendall Simpkins; granddaughter, Brandy Acord; son-in-law, Phillip “Bubby” Lytton; sister, Janet Howell; brothers, Quinton and Clark Simpkins.

Paul was known as a helper and a giver, always wanting to lend a hand to anyone to help in any way he could. He loved his family and friends, family gatherings, and cook outs. He was a true outdoorsman, always wanting to be outside. He loved his gardens, always growing extra to give away to others. He loved mowing his grass, sitting around on the porch watching the birds. He was known as a jokester, loved to pick and laugh and carry on. Paul retired from the Radford Arsenal after many years of service and also worked at the Steel Mill.

He is survived by his children, Karen Lytton of Christiansburg, Kevin (Stacy) Simpkins of Floyd, Kim (Ernie) Woods of Christiansburg, and Kelli Hill of Max Meadows; grandchildren, Timothy (Ashley) Simpkins, Brian Lytton, Justin (Laurel) Simpkins, Tyler Hill, Taylor Hill, Bryce Thompson, and Brent Thompson; sisters & brother-in-law, Mary Akers and Betty (Jack) Saul; many other extended family including great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, October 3, 2024 at Beaver Creek Church with Pastor Marvin Wade officiating. Interment will follow in the Beaver Creek Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Wednesday, October 2, 2024 at Beaver Creek Church.

Bobby Ray Wade

 

Bobby Ray Wade, 73 of Floyd, peacefully passed away on Thursday, September 26, 2024. He was born March 18, 1951 to Robert Max Wade and Betty Jean Wade Alderman. He is preceded in death by his parents. 

He is survived by his siblings, Dennis Wade (Brenda), Alisa Wade Boothe (Gary), and Debra Wade Marshall (Roger); and nieces and nephews, Joli (the late Thai) Huynh, Kimberly Wade, Melissa Reed, Chris (Jenny) Weddle, Ryan (Ashley) Weddle, and Kendall Gardner.

Over the years Bobby worked for various businesses as an auto parts salesman. His hobbies included working on race cars, hunting, and fishing. He had many friends who enjoyed his jovial ways. He loved his canine friends; his most recent one being Maggie. He will be missed by all who knew him. We are thankful that he was part of our lives.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, October 2, 2024 in the Maberry Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Mike Varner officiating. Interment will follow in the Topeco Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 12:30 p.m. until 2 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.

Benny Lewis Morgan, Jr.

 


Benny Lewis Morgan, Jr., 68 of Floyd, Virginia, passed away on September 20th, 2024 at his home.

Benny was born in Ronceverte, WV to Benny Morgan, Sr. and Gaye Marie O’Brien. He is preceeded in death by both his parents; brother-in-law, Ernie Williams; as well beloved boxer Maxx.

Left to cherish memories with him include his siblings, Jeanne Williams, Henry Morgan (Shawna) and JP Morgan; his son, Kevin Morgan and daughter-in-law, Jess, and granddaughter, Stella; his daughter, Danielle Dyckman and son-in-law, Jordan and grandson Owen; and his beloved dogs, Boomer and Rock. Benny had several long-time friends including, Tony and Nikki Bowles, and “Huffy”.

Benny dabbled in a little bit of everything but his love for cars started at a young age. Benny left high school at Greenbrier East to pursue body work at Bill Lewis Motors before he was 18. From there Benny went on to open his own car lot where he spent most of his time painting and restoring cars. Benny eventually moved to Virginia where he worked at Shelor Motor Mile for many years. Benny was the type of person you could always depend on, someone you call whenever you needed anything.

Benny will very much be missed. His children plan to honor his wishes with no formal funeral services. A memorial of life will be held at a later date.

Ila Payne Fields


Ila Payne Fields, 84 of Check, passed away on Sunday, September 8, 2024.

She is survived by her children, Randy Fields, Sharon McDaniel (Al), and Paul Fields; grandchildren, David Fields (Elsa) and Saundra Newton (Jared); and numerous great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at Noon on Thursday, September 12, 2024 in the Maberry Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Jack Payne officiating. Interment will follow in the Restvale Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 11:30 a.m. until Noon prior to the service at the funeral home.

Helen Wilson Donahue

Helen Wilson Donahue, our dear mother, 95 of Roanoke, sadly passed away peacefully on Tuesday, September 3, 2024. She was born on October 23, 1928 in Allen, Oklahoma to Willie Lee Wilson and Loma May Billingsley.

Helen is preceded in death by her parents, Willie and Loma Wilson; husband, Jesse Owen Donahue; brothers, Vernon, Bill, and Davis Lee Wilson; sisters, Betty Monigold and Patsy Smith; son, Terry Donahue; and grandsons, Jason Coffey and Chad Donahue.

She is survived by her children, Connie Liptrap (Mike), Danny Donahue (Nadine), Donna Childress (Ken), Janet Donahue (Mike Ingram), and Eva Goldsmith (Gray); 12 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

Helen will be remembered for her strong Christian faith and the love she had for others. She enjoyed music, dancing and spending quality time with friends. However, her true passion was her children and her family and she devoted her life to their well-being and care.

Graveside services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, September 9, 2024 in the Sherwood Memorial Park with The Rev. Robert S. Goldsmith officiating.
