Gracie Conner Smith

Gracie Conner Smith, 83 of Copper Hill entered her heavenly home on December 18, 2025. Gracie was the beloved wife of Charles Smith for over 64 years. Wherever you saw one you usually also saw the other.  She was his loving wife as well as his farming assistant.  She was found many times on a tractor or in a hay truck.

She was a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.  She spent much time trying to instill the importance of Christian values in their lives.  She was always singing or humming a favorite hymn while teaching them how to make biscuits or her famous coconut cake and pies.

Gracie worked for over 35 years in the medical field, coding claims and managing doctors’ offices for Carilion. Gracie loved helping people and the medical field gave her the opportunity to do so.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Claude & Claudine Conner; and her brother, Benny Conner.

She is survived by her loving husband, Charles Smith; their two children, Kathy Smith Nolen (Darrell) and Terry Smith (Sara); five grandchildren, Jacob Nolen (Jessica Dufault), Jordan Nolen Adams (Clieve), Courtney Smith Stephenson (Gareth), Bailey Smith Wade (Jacob), and Levi Smith (Lydia); 11 great-grandchildren, Jenson, Micah, Esther, and Jude Adams, Grayson, Lydia, and Mack Stephenson, Luke, Kadesh, and John Wade, and Hadley Smith; brother, David Conner; sisters, Joyce Poff, Weeta Small (Dick), Donnie Wood, and Jeanette Simmons; sister-in-law, Rushie Conner; as well as many loving nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, December 21, 2025 at Copper Hill Church of the Brethren with Pastor Gareth Stephenson and Rev. Horace Light officiating. Interment will follow in the Copper Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Saturday, December 20, 2025 in the Maberry Funeral Home Chapel.
