Arva Conner Coleman

Arva Conner Coleman, 96 of Floyd, passed away peacefully at her home, Tuesday, June 27, 2017.  She was preceded in death by her first husband and father of her children, George W. Conner and her son Edward L. Conner.
She loved her children dearly and was a wonderful mother, wife, grandmother, and friend.  Her love of cooking was shared with her family and friends.
She is survived by her husband, Willie D. Coleman “Bill”; son & daughter –in- law, Charles & Beulah Conner; daughter, Mary Joyce Conner; daughter-in-law, Shirley B. Conner; grandchildren, Michael W. Conner, David Conner (Karen), Travis Faw (Gwen), Tracy Faw, Danah Conner Meadows(Gene); numerous great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren; also numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, June 30, 2017 at Maberry Funeral Home with Pastor Jeff Hudgins officiating with interment in the Jacksonville Cemetery.  Family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Thursday, June 29, 2017 at Maberry Funeral Home.

Durene Cole Cupp


Durene Cole  Cupp, 70 of Christiansburg, went home to be with the Lord, Wednesday, June 21, 2017.  She was preceded in death by her mother, Clarice Peters Cole, father, Marvin Cole and two brothers, Darry Lee Cole and George Kyle Cole.

She was a loving mother, grandmother and blessing to the community.  Her determined personality and big heart made her who she was.  Durene’s love for the Lord showed through in her daily life.  Her love for her family was her greatest joy.

Left to cherish her memory are her son Darren Keith and his wife Tammy; four grandchildren, Joshua Dean, Cole Gabriel, Grace-Katherine Durene and Mason Kyle of Pilot.

Funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, June 25, 2017 at Fellowship Baptist Church with Pastor James Bradley officiating with interment in the Cole Family Cemetery.   Family will receive friends 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Saturday, June 24, 2017 at Maberry Funeral Home.

Dean Vaughan

Dean Vaughan, of Cherry Hill, New Jersey, passed away January 2, 2017. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, June 24, 2017 at Jacksonville cemetery. The family will meet at Maberry Funeral Home at 2:00 p.m. where friends may meet also and everyone will proceed to the cemetery.

Marvin Ray Thompson




Marvin Ray Thompson, 88 of Dugspur passed away Thursday, June 15, 2017.

Preceded in death by his brother, Alvin Thompson and sister, Zelma Spence.

He is survived by his sister, Nellie Thompson of Stuart, VA; nieces and nephews, Velva Lineback, Dwight Spence, Kay Pack, Robert Spence, John Thompson and Patsy Gallimore.

Funeral Service will be held 2 p.m. Sunday, June 18, 2017 at Maberry Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Ronnie Goad officiating. Family will receive friends from 1-2 p.m. prior to the funeral. Interment will follow in the Pineview Cemetery, Dugspur.

Ashley Hannah Lawson Harmon



Ashley Hannah Lawson Harmon, 33 of Indian Valley, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, June 13, 2017.  She is preceded in death by her mother, Dianne Lawson, Ma-Ma, Ivalene Cox and Grandpa, Calvin Lawson.

Ashley is described by her family as the sweetest person you would ever meet. There wasn’t a person Ashley met that she didn’t love unconditionally. She was kind, compassionate, strong, humble, loving, gentle, and funny.  To know her was to love her. She had a radiant smile that never left her face, even during some of her darkest moments while battling cancer. Most importantly, her faith in Jesus never wavered. Ashley’s life was a testimony, an example on how we should show the love and grace that God has showed to us. Her family and friends find comfort in knowing that Ashley is dancing with angels and her body is finally whole. 

Left to cherish her memory are her  husband, Daryl L. Harmon; father, Wayne Lawson & Carol; sisters, Amy Belshan & Jeff, Amanda Cox & Johnny, Alison Huff & Stevie; brother, Bradley Lawson; aunts & uncles,  “mother” & “father”  Mary & Joe Boothe, Irene & Lee McPeak; twelve nieces and nephews,  Hannah & Bryce Altizer, Matt, Abi, Sarah & Zoe Belshan, Rebecca, Emily, Laura, Liam Cox, Justin & Ashton Huff. 

Funeral will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, June 17, 2017 at Indian Valley Church of God with Pastor Kenneth Poston and Pastor Wayne Poston officiating with interment in Big Sand Cemetery.  Family will receive friends Noon to 2:00 p.m. prior to the funeral service.
