Michele Camp

Michele Camp, 56, passed away suddenly but peacefully on August 23, 2023 at her home in Floyd, VA.

She is survived by her loving husband of 33 years, Chip; son, Nick Camp (Camille); step-daughters, Meghan Stacy (Kevin) and Kristen Pachucki (Camil); parents, Jerry and Robin Nucci; brother, Mark Nucci and his daughter Stephanie; as well as seven grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Michele had several hobbies such as sewing, decorating and stenciling. She was always one to hold and rock a baby. She loved planning and entertaining for the joy of others. However, Michele would most often spend her time of enjoyment curled up with a good book and a cup of tea.

Michele grew to love and be loved by many friends in Floyd and the four other locations in which she lived. Although only a resident of Floyd for three years, she found the area to be her “Happy Place”.

Deep Peace of the Quiet Earth to You.

A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.

Patsy Quarles Compton Cockram

Patsy Quarles Compton Cockram, 90 of Floyd, went to be with her Lord and Savior in her heavenly home on Wednesday, August 23, 2023.

Preceding her in death are her husband, Welby Alton Cockram; her son, Steven Cockram; granddaughter, Leah Goff; daughters-in-law, Marcia Cockram and Penny Cockram; and parents, Ward & Minnalee Compton and Watkins Quarles.

Patsy graduated as Valedictorian of her high school class at the age of 16 years old and married the love of her life, Welby, a few months later. They would go on to share 72 years of marriage together that truly exemplified selfless, unending love. Her pride and joy was her family, and she enjoyed raising her children and spending time with her grandchildren, great grandchildren, and countless others who may not have been related by blood, but were always welcomed in all the same. Patsy worked for most of her adult life at the garment factory in Floyd until her retirement in 1998. She served her church through activities such as Sunday School, Vacation Bible School, singing groups, and Christmas plays. She was an excellent piano player and in addition to time spent teaching and playing for family at home, she played at Tuggles Gap and Duncan’s Chapel Church during services for many years. She was very talented at crocheting, knitting, and quilting and was a fantastic seamstress. She enjoyed gardening and canning to provide for her family and whomever she could share with as well. She loved to read and kept a detailed library of important events of friends, family, and the community. As she aged and dementia and arthritis kept her from continuing the things she once loved, she still enjoyed working jigsaw puzzles and doing word searches. Along with her husband Welby, she cared deeply for her friends, family, and neighbors and was always willing to offer a helping hand in any way she could, often putting others' needs before her own. Kind-hearted and forgiving, Patsy lived by and exemplified the saying, “Let your love be stronger than your pain”. A loving wife, mother, sister, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend, Patsy will be deeply missed by all who knew her and her love, light, and all the important lessons that she shared will be cherished and carried with us always.

She was a loving mom to her children, Gary (Jeanette) Cockram, Philip Cockram, Joel (Beth) Cockram, and Jennifer (Stacy) Goff; grandma to her grandchildren, Joan (Bruce) Ferrier, Denise (Tommy) Price, Bethany (Brandon) Williams, and Lissie Goff; and great-grandchildren, Garrett Price, Sidney Price, and Avalyn Williams; sisters, Louise Via and Lucy McAlexander; and numerous nieces and nephews and special friends she considered family.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 26, 2023 in the Maberry Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Roy Turpin and Pastor Stan Hawkins officiating. Interment will follow in the Lee Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Lee Cemetery or to Duncans Chapel Church of the Brethren in Patsy’s memory.
