Donald Ellerd Halverson, Jr. of Floyd, passed away
on Tuesday, October 7, 2014. The oldest of 3 children, Don was born in Metter,
GA, June 6, 1946 to Lauree Durden Simmons and Donald E. Halverson, Sr. Don grew
up in Atlanta, went to Marist School and graduated from Milton High School. He
went on to college at The Citadel. Don's love for football was only exceeded by
his deep love of all the children in the family. Don was a coach, teacher, a
computer systems consultant, salesman and accountant.
He is survived by his spouse, Laura
Lee Shawhan, his children Libby Boggs of Buckhannon, WV and Donny Halverson of
Mexico City; his sister, Mary Beth Marzulli of Hilton Head, SC, and brother
Brian Wesley Simmons of Mason, NH; his loving Aunties, Mary Floyd Giometti of
Atlanta, GA, and Betty Durden Collins of Stillmore, GA; and several
grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
A memorial service is being held at Mt.
Elbert Methodist Church in Floyd on Saturday Oct. 25, 2014, at 3:00 p.m.
A reception will follow. Another service is being held in Atlanta on Saturday,
Nov. 8, 2014.
In lieu
of flowers, donations to Wounded Warrior Project, Nat'l Processing Cntr, PO Box
78540, Topeka, Kansas, will be greatly appreciated.
