Frances Magdalene Akers Weeks

Frances Magdalene Akers Weeks, 86, of Floyd, passed away Sunday, October 7, 2018.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Posey Weeks; parents, Chymer & Lena Akers; brother, J.T. Akers; and sister, Lucille Duncan.  She is survived by a son, Steve Weeks of Greenwood; daughter and son-in-law, Marilyn and Randy Gallimore of Floyd; grandsons: Steven (Allison) Weeks of Riner; Matthew (Jessica) Gallimore of Floyd; Andrew (Charity) Weeks of Troutville; and granddaughter, Sara (Justin) Coleman of Floyd.  Also surviving are her seven great grandchildren: Hunter and Melanie Gallimore; Isaiah, Eli, and Asher Coleman; and Silas and Mason Weeks; sister-in-law, Lucille Akers; and very special nieces and nephews.
Frances truly loved her family and was devoted to caring for them.  She was a dedicated wife and mother, a perfect example of the type of woman ordained by God.  She loved to babysit, reciting every nursery rhyme imaginable.  She was a faithful member and deaconess of Pleasant Valley Church of the Brethren.  As a Sunday School teacher she lived as she taught, treating others with kindness and never speaking an unkind word.  She enjoyed spending time sitting on her porch swing overlooking God’s creation.   Following her recent stroke, Frances could still sing from memory so many of her cherished hymns with the most beautiful harmony.
Visitation will be held on Monday, October 8, from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Maberry Funeral Home.  The funeral service will be at Pleasant Valley Church on Tuesday, October 9, at 11:00 a.m. with Pastors Roy Turpin and Brian Turpin officiating.  Burial will follow at the church cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Pleasant Valley Church building fund.
