Edith "Frances" Proffit

Edith Frances Proffit, 91 of Floyd, was born November 8, 1925 and was called home to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ and to be reunited with her husband of 68 years, James, on Thursday, November 2, 2017.  She passed away after complications from a stroke while surrounded by her loved ones.
Frances was employed in the garment industry for over 20 years, retiring in 1987.  She lived a full life being a farmer’s wife, milking cows, working in the fields, hauling rock off of crop land, driving trucks and tractors while doing multiple chores.
Frances had a “green thumb” and could grow just about anything in her huge garden that she planted, tended and harvested each year. She spent much of her time canning and freezing many bushels of vegetables and always having extra vegetable to share with family, church family and friends.  Frances was one of the best cooks ever and always taking great pleasure in seeing people enjoy the food that she had prepared.
She was preceded by her Dad and Mom, Noah Waitman and Ida Naff Sowers; 3 brothers; 2 sisters.
She is survived by her three daughters and sons-in-law, Gwendolyn Klann (Gary), Betty Hicks (David), Sharon Lovell (Ray);  six grandchildren, Derrick Hicks (Tanya), Jeffery Hicks (Crystal), Jennifer Kilgore (Daniel), Eric Klann, Kristen Carver (Scott), Brandon Lovell (Michelle); six great-grandchildren, Serafin Daniel Kilgore, Elijah Allen Hicks, Knoxleigh Elizabeth Carver, Maximus Cross Carver, McKenzie Grace Lovell, Trevor Allen Lovell.
Funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, November 5, 2017 at Red Oak Grove Church of the Brethren with Pastor Hebron Quesenberry and Pastor Marvin Wade officiating with interment in the Restvale Cemetery.  Family will receive friends 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Saturday, November 4, 2017 at Maberry Funeral Home.
Thanks to Frances’ church (Red Oak Grove Church of the Brethren) for all the fellowship and spiritual support.  Frances was a member since the age of 13 serving in many rolls.  Frances and James were Deacons for many years and also served as youth leader for a while as well as a longtime member of the Women’s Fellowship.
Frances was loved by everyone she met.  The family would like to thank everyone at Good Samaritan Hospice for the care you gave Frances.  The family would like to thank all the nurses and Nursing Assistant’s at Skyline Nursing and Rehab for all the loving care you gave our mother during her short stay there.  We know you loved her also.
