Ila Mae Smith Reed


Ila Mae Smith Reed, 93, of Willis, our precious mother, peacefully departed this life and went home to be with the Lord, Sunday, November 20, 2016 at Skyline Nursing & Rehab Center in Floyd, VA.

Mrs. Reed was born June 10, 1923 in Floyd County to the late Alfred Cornelius Smith and Icie Florence Smith. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband of 70 years, Wilbert Haven Reed; sisters, Zola Williams and  Irene Duncan;  brothers, Alsaberry Smith, Loman Smith and Edgar Smith; grandson, Tony Wood.
Mr. and Mrs. Reed moved to Bassett where she worked at Bassett-Walker Knitting for 10 years before retiring and moving back to Willis in 1983.  She loved gardening, canning, quilting and cooking for her family.  She loved the Lord and often talked about how much she had been blessed.
Left to cherish her memory are her six daughters and sons-in-law, Faye Weeks and Gene, Fern Belcher and Michael, Oleda Phillips, Vicki Bond and Alex all of Willis, Joan Quesenberry and Dale of Indian Valley, Louise Reed and Max of Bassett ; three sons, and daughters-in-law, Dale Reed of Willis, Calvin Reed and Brenda of Halifax, Bennett Reed and Judy of Bassett ; four sisters and brothers-in-law, Sue Quesenberry and Dexter of Pennsylvania,  Alma Quesenberry, of Radford, Mozelle Phillips of Willis, Martha Farmer of Riner; one brother, Ray Lincoln Smith  and Carrie of Rockwood, Tennessee; very special sister-in-law, Lorraine Smith of Riner; 18 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, 8 great-great grandchildren, and several step grandchildren.
Funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, November 23, 2016 at Maberry Funeral Home with Pastor Roy Turpin and Pastor Shannon Hicks officiating with interment at Beaver Creek Cemetery.  Family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Tuesday, November 22, 2016 at Maberry Funeral Home Chapel.
